Heat Syndrome(热证) :
It is due to invasion of the body by pathogenic heat, or exuberant yang qi in the zang-fu
organs, or yin deficiency with yang hyperactivity, resulting in hperfunction of the body,
marked by warm or heat features. Since preponderance of yang and yin deficiency can cause
manifestations of a heat syndrome, there are excess-heat syndrome and deficiency-heat
syndrome.
Clinical Manifestations: Fever, aversion to heat, preference for cold, thirst, a desire for drinks,
red face, restlessness, yellow and sticky sputum and nasal discharge, dark scanty urine, dry
stools, red tongue with scanty saliva, yellow and dry coating and rapid pulse.
Syndrome Analysis: with acute onset it is caused by exposure to exogenous pathogenic heat,
or much intake of spicy food, or accumulation of cold-dampness which transforms into heat,
or seven emotions in excess, transformations of the five emotions into fire, resulting in
excessive heat. Strong patients often have the excess-heat syndrome. Those who have
preponderance of yang qi in a chronic illness caused by internal injury and consumption of
fluid tend to get the deficiency-heat syndrome. It is often the exterior heat syndrome if
pathogenic heat attacks the exterior. And it is often the interior heat syndrome if pathogenic
heat invades the zang-fu organs or yin deficiency with yang hyperactivity. Preponderance of
heat consuming body fluids, or hyperactivity of yang from yin deficiency, often cause fever,
aversion to heart, red face, restlessness, red tongue with yellow coating and rapid pulse.
When heat damage fluid, there are thirst, a desire for drinks, yellow sticky sputum and nasal
discharge, dark scanty urine, dry stools, and red tongue with scanty saliva.
