Robin Hadley and her late husband John Hadleyhold a special place in The Heckscher Museum’shistory. For nine years, John Hadley providedvisionary, insightful, and generous leadership asChair of the Board of Trustees. Robin carriesforward this exemplary spirit and the belief thatphilanthropy inspires others to achieve. Championsof The Heckscher Museum and its far reachingvalue to the residents of Long Island, Robin andJohn received the Outstanding PhilanthropistsAward in 1994 from the Long Island Chapter ofthe National Society of Fundraising Executives.

Artists Sandra Benny andRichardVaux have shareda “studio compound” in Lloyd Neck since 1983.Meeting as graduate students at Northern IllinoisUniversity, Sandra and Richard were married in1969 beginning their professional artist careers onLong Island. They interpret the natural worldthrough original and distinctive styles, and their artwork has been exhibited throughout the UnitedStates and abroad. Richard is a Professor Emeritusat Adelphi University where he teaches paintingand drawing. Sandra is a retired Senior AdjunctProfessor of Drawing and Design, LIU Post.

The Heckscher Museum of ArtTheHeckscherMuseumof Art was founded in 1920 through the philanthropy ofAugustHeckscher. It is anAmericanAlliance ofMuseums accredited institution,one of only 800 nationwide. The Museum has a permanent collection of morethan 2,500 works of art spanning five centuries from the early 16th century tothe present. Throughout the year, new exhibitions are presented, drawn from thePermanent Collection and from works on loan from museums and privatecollectors. Education programs annually engage over 7,000 school childrenfrom Nassau and Suffolk Counties with multidisciplinary learning experiencesthat enhance theNewYork State Learning Standards. TheMuseumhas an activeschedule of public programs that reach families, adults, and senior citizens.Manyof these programs are offered free to the public. Through exhibitions and relatededucational programs, theMuseum seeks to provide inspiring and transformativeexperiences to encourage a broader understanding of the past and present, andenrich the quality of life for the individuals it serves.
