Page 2: HEIGHTS HYPE · during the week, to wish him well and to thank him for his time and immense contribution at Frankston Heights. Our assembly was a highlight of the day with the Year

Congratulations and well done to all our Year three and five students who have completed their NAPLAN assessments this week. Our students have been involved in assessments over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Results will be sent out to us later in the year and will be distributed to parents on receipt. Thank you to our wonderful school community for making Mr. Anderson’s last day at our school such a memorable one. I know that he was touched by the many parents and students who went out of their way during the week, to wish him well and to thank him for his time and immense contribution at Frankston Heights. Our assembly was a highlight of the day with the Year 1 /2 rendition of “ So Long Farewell” sung to new words for Mr. Anderson, causing many a tear. Mr Anderson’s answers during his interview with Mr. Marsden were hilarious and the many books created by our students for Mr. Anderson were amazing!! I’m sure Mr Anderson is still trying to read them all !! Don’t forget to keep next Tuesday night from 5—7 free for our Education Week Open Night, incorporating a Science Night and Book Fair. In true Frankston Heights style we will also have a sausage sizzle running from five o’clock so you can grab a bite to eat as you wander around and see the fantastic science activities we have planned for you. Don’t forget we will have prizes for the best science outfits on the night . Mrs. Gallagher will have our Book Fair open in the Library for any purchases. I look forward to seeing you on the night for some great fun. I have heard great reports already from the students who attended Woorabinda Somers camp last week. Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time. Happy birthday to Charlie C who celebrated his birthday while on camp— what a treat!!! A reminder to all that we have the Life Education van arriving at our school for the first week of June— this is always a great program for our students. We will be running a parent session...more details closer to the date. With this week’s newsletter I have attached a flyer that explains the CASEA program that we will be undertaking at Frankston Heights in term four of this year. We are really looking forward to becoming involved in the program. If you would like further information please contact me . Have a great weekend everyone ! Carole Gagiero Assistant Principal

It has been a very busy time in the Middle Homestead!

Last week we had our Middle

School Cross Country trials. All the students put in a great effort after

lots of practice during PE. Forty students from the Homestead will be attending District Cross Country

on Friday the 23rd of May. Good luck!

Last week several lucky students from the middle

school went to camp woorabinda.

A bit stressed and excited, we all set off to Banyan Fields primary school to get on a bus to camp. Our bus driver was so nice that

he let us watch Mr Bean. WE rolled up to a place in the middle

of nowhere. So we walked to camp. My favourite activity was

high ropes.

By Rani

The dinners and deserts were delicious. The first night we had

Crumbed fish and spuds. The second night we had roast lamb and vegies. The third night was my favourite, we had pasta and

garlic bread. Wednesday we had birthday cake because it was my

birthday.

At Woorabinda Camp my favorite thing was the high ropes because I faced my fear of heights. Especially ‘Hugger Boi’ because I got to grab

onto something while I was walking….and it was a funny name!

Allysia

I was full of excitement and anxiety. i finally left my aunty and got on the bus. i went on the high

ropes course. i cried all the way round but i got over it the second

time round. i fell out of the canoe and fell into the lake! (I got

really wet) everyone was so friendly.

In Term Two we have PE on a Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure your child has runners to wear on these days.

A reminder to make sure that parents are reading with or to your children nightly and diaries are brought in signed every day. We are very excited about reading the students Journals this term! They are due in each Thursday.

THE ARTS

The Arts department has been busy as always! Junior School has been working on ‘It’s a Jungle Out There’, so

don’t be afraid if you hear roars and other strange sounds emanating from our direction. The Middle School is enjoying working on ‘Medieval Feasts and Festivals’

CASEA will be in our school in 2014

CASEA is a joint program run by Monash Health Early in Life Mental Health Service (ELMHS)

and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and will be running in our

school this year.

The program helps children enhance their self esteem and develop better skills in

Making friends

Understanding and expressing feelings

Getting on with others

We will be running the program for children in Prep to Grade 3 classes. In this way we hope to

help children who have problems in these areas to improve their skills and prevent their

problems from getting bigger.

The program involves working with the classroom teachers, and running small groups for

children and their parents.

Attendance in the small groups is free of charge but places are limited. Parents of children in

Prep to Grade 3 will receive a letter soon explaining the program in more detail.

If you have any queries please contact Carole Gagiero on ph (03) 9783 4988

Hey! My name is Monty. I am from the CASEA program, and we are coming to your school!
