Hello Eagles, We’ve had a busy and productive year so far at Beckley Elementary! Here are some highlights:
Beckley Garden
Students are visiting our farmer in the garden weekly, our garden is located near the front office, we are
growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Also, our hydroponic garden do-nated by Los Vaqueros, is almost ready for seeds and water ! Students can learn about plants in the science classroom.
ZOOM Night
Our first family ZOOM night was in October. Parents and students enjoyed educa-tional, literacy based activities while learning about outer space. Another ZOOM night is planned for the spring.
Harvest Festival
Our Annual Harvest Festi-val was a huge success! Families enjoyed games, food, and wearing their Halloween costumes. A huge thank-you to all of our parent and community vol-unteers who helped us make this event a success!

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” ― Margaret Fuller
Our first graders have been very busy this season. In reading, we learned the rule about the silent ‘e’ at the
end of some words. In math, we are learning how to find the missing number in an equation. We are also learning
how to research a question, and then write about what we learned.
Last week, we took a break for our field trip to Oppor-
tunity Village, where we enjoyed the holiday season to-gether. We look forward to more learning and adventure
as we continue with our first grade journey.
SECOND GRADERS IN ACTION
We have hard at work this year learning about the
parts of a story and character traits. We are work-
ing on addition and subtraction and we are learn-
ing lots of strategies to solve math problems!
KINDERGARTEN HAPPENINGS
EXCITING TIMES IN FIRST GRADE
Kindergarteners are putting their skills to use! We are reading, writing and count-ing everyday!
Please check your child's folder everyday for im-portant information from school!
BREAKFAST WITH BOOKS & SECOND CUP OF COFFEE
Once per month Spread the
Word Nevada and Las Vegas
Rotary team up to bring Break-
fast with Books to our school.
This wonderful program takes
place before school in the multi
-purpose room.
Every student who comes with
an adult gets a snack, a free
book to keep, and can listen to
an exciting read-aloud.
There is always a drawing for
prizes and every student who
completes a monthly reading
log and brings it to the event
will get to choose a prize from
the treasure box.
Every Breakfast with Books
event is followed by Second
Cup of Coffee at 9am. This is a
get together with school admin-
istration and parents where you
can hear important information
and ask questions.
THIRD GRADERS ARE WORKING HARD!
Third Grade has a lot of energy this year! We have been working hard to create narrative stories of all different genres. We've created personal nar-ratives, fictional narratives, and are currently working on historical fiction nar-ratives. We've even written informational reports about our favorite animals! Our students are full of great ideas.
Math has been quite an adventure for us this year as well. We are working hard to master our multiplication facts so that we can use them to solve area problems.
Reading has been very fun, as we've been reading some really interesting texts. One of our main focuses is discussing the importance of character traits and how they affect the sequence of events in a story.
This winter we have been working hard to be kind and respectful to one an-other. Not only are we writing kind bucket fillers, but we are "lighting up the classroom with kindness" as we write kind things that we are doing for each other. These 'lights' are hung up around the room to remind us the im-portance of treating each other well. We've also been doing the morning announcements. The students love being heard throughout the whole school!

FOURTH GRADE IS ZOOMING ALONG!
4th grade has been
busy this year learning
and growing! In Lan-
guage Arts we have
been learning about
narratives and the
parts of a story, espe-
cially focusing on
theme and character
traits. We have been
learning about solving
equations in math us-
ing multiplication and
division and solving
word problems. In sci-
ence we are learning
about the lifestyles of
animals and in social
studies we are discuss-
ing Nevada history.
Lighting up third grade with kindness!
