January 2017 Volume 47, Issue 1
HELLO EVERYONE,
On Dec.12th, Westwood Civic was asked to provide a “wish list” of issues
pertaining to blight within the NEP (neighborhood enhancement program)
area in Westwood. We turned in a comprehensive report detailing visible
issues that the NEP will hopefully address in the coming year. With eye
sores like the tax and title place on Harrison and vacant lots in and around
the NEP area seeing change is overdue. For the “wish list” volunteers looked
at everything from litter, graffiti, and blighted buildings to down signs,
cracked sidewalks/driveways and unkempt lots, public and private. The city
will take a look into addressing the things on the “wish list”, within the pa-
rameters of NEP process. NEP choosing Westwood and East Westwood
overlaps with some of the suggested action steps made by the WUTSTV
McHenry and Harrison location team. WCA is very grateful to be in a position
of opportunity and collaboration with East Westwood and the City.
Additionally, many of the board members and some community members
are getting involved with the youth council by participating in a youth train-
ing conducted by the Directors of Youth at the Center. Here we learned
some things about perception and assumptions which play a role in our in-
teractions with youth. They had insightful approaches to leadership that will
come in handy for future leadership opportunities.
I would like to thank everyone for working hard to make the transition of
leadership seem flawless. I appreciate all the support and hope to see con-
tinued great things happen for Westwood through hard work. Happy Holi-
days!

NSP (Neighborhood Support Program) Additional Vote Needed at January 17, 2017 General Meeting:
Attention all Westwood Residents: The City of Cincinnati has recently made available an additional $900.00 in NSP fund-
ing for all of the neighborhoods for 2017. So, in total, our 2017 NSP funding budget for Westwood will be $7,700.00 in-
stead of $6,800.00. If you attended the September General Meeting, back on 9/20/16, you will remember that we dis-
cussed the 2017 NSP categories, and we took a neighborhood vote on how to use the $6,800.00. Now that we have an
additional $900.00 for Westwood, according to the NSP rules, we need to discuss this issue at a regular General Meet-
ing, decide and vote, as a neighborhood, how to use the additional $900.00. The $900.00 may be added to a funding cate-
gory that we already have, or we may allocate the funding to a new category. It is up to all of us, as Residents, to come to a
collective decision. Please come to the January 17, 2017 General Meeting, so we can talk about this funding, and then
take a vote on how Westwood will benefit from the additional $900.00 of NSP funding. All Westwood residents present at
the meeting can vote on this issue.

WCA MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
It’s the time of the year again for WCA membership renewal. Other than the NSP funds that we receive from the City of
Cincinnati, membership fees are the largest source income that WCA uses to publish Westwords and further its mission in
support of Westwood. Section 5.05 of the WCA bylaws states that dues are to be paid in advance, and must be paid prior
to the end of the February General Membership Meeting in order for a member to be eligible to vote in that year’s election
of Board Members.
Current dues are $10.00 per year per household, with an extra $5.00 per year charge for receipt of a paper copy of West-
words via mail. Dues can be paid by mail using the membership form as the end of Westwords, electronically at http://
westwoodcivic.org/join/ or in person at a WCA General Meeting or Steering meeting. Any questions regarding the status of
your membership should be referred to WCA Membership Secretary, Stephen Schramm at [email protected]

Westwood Historical Society Membership

you will receive a notice regarding dues renewal. If you are not a member, consider joining! Dues are $15 per
year for a household. If interested, send check (payable to the Westwood Historical Society) to Westwood His-
torical Society, PO Box 11095, Cincinnati, OH 45211. Include your name, address, phone, email address if
available, and names of household members. Also indicate if you wish to receive your newsletter via mail or e
-mail.
