Alex Nevitt and I was just ordained less than two months ago. I wanted to introduce myself and to share with you all my excitement to be placed in residence at St. Luke’ s for the summer. And while I might have only moved in this weekend, thank you to so many of you who have already made me feel welcome in my new home. I look forward to helping your new pastor Fr. Owen, but most of all I cannot wait to meet all of you. I was born in Morristown and am a New Jersey native. I grew up in Florham Park and moved to East Hanover when I was in Middle School. As you can imagine, I know Fr. Owen from before moving to St. Luke’s since he was my pastor at St. Rose of Lima before I left to the seminary. I knew always from a young age that I loved being Catholic, the sense of belonging to such a large family and knowing that every Church you go to is home. However, it was not until after my sophomore year of college that I realized God was calling me to serve him in a different way, as a priest. After I finished the last two years of my Bachelors in Economics at the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter in New York City, I entered the seminary and was sent to do my philosophy in Washington, DC at Theological College. I never turned back after that. I knew after entering seminary that I was on the right path and God made clear for me my vocation. My journey to the priesthood led me then to Rome where I still currently study at the Pontifical North American College. They have been very formative years, as well as opening me up to the image of the Universal Church. While I only live with mainly Americans and just a few Australians, my classes consist of student from over 130 countries at the Gregorian University. While I finished my first cycle of studies, the Bishop requested that I complete a License in Seminary Formation and so will need to return for one more year after the summer is over, as well as complete some research over the summer. That brings us to today with me starting my first summer as a priest at St. Luke’s. It is a time of excitement and joy for me to finally have the chance to be involved in pastoral ministry as a priest. And while I know our time might be short, I know it will be rich in opportunities, but most importantly, prayer. God is the one who gives us strength to overcome new challenges. And I am excited that my first weekend falls immediately after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a very important devotion of mine. I will entrust all of you in my prayers to the Sacred Heart and ask that you do the same for me. Hello, my name is Fr. Alex Nevitt and I was

just ordained less than two months ago. I wanted to introduce myself and to share with you all my excitement to be placed in residence at St. Luke’s for

the summer. And while I might have only moved in this weekend, thank you

to so many of you who have already made me feel welcome in my new home.

I look forward to helping your new pastor Fr. Owen, but most of all I cannot wait to meet all of you.

I was born in Morristown and am a New Jersey native. I grew up in Florham

Park and moved to East Hanover when I was in Middle School. As you can imagine, I know Fr. Owen from before moving to St. Luke’s since he was

my pastor at St. Rose of Lima before I left to the seminary. I knew always

from a young age that I loved being Catholic, the sense of belonging to such a large family and knowing that every Church you go to is home. However,

it was not until after my sophomore year of college that I realized God was

calling me to serve him in a different way, as a priest.

After I finished the last two years of my Bachelors in Economics at the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter in New York City, I entered the

seminary and was sent to do my philosophy in Washington, DC at

Theological College. I never turned back after that. I knew after entering seminary that I was on the right path and God made clear for me my

vocation.

My journey to the priesthood led me then to Rome where I still currently study at the Pontifical North American College. They have been very

formative years, as well as opening me up to the image of the Universal

Church. While I only live with mainly Americans and just a few Australians,

my classes consist of student from over 130 countries at the Gregorian University. While I finished my first cycle of studies, the Bishop requested

that I complete a License in Seminary Formation and so will need to return

for one more year after the summer is over , as well as complete some research over the summer.

That brings us to today with me starting my first summer as a priest at St.

Luke’s. It is a time of excitement and joy for me to finally have the chance

to be involved in pastoral ministry as a priest. And while I know our time might be short, I know it will be rich in opportunities, but most importantly,

prayer. God is the one who gives us strength to overcome new challenges.

And I am excited that my first weekend falls immediately after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a very important devotion of mine. I will entrust

all of you in my prayers to the Sacred Heart and ask that you do the same

for me.

Eucharist & Prayer Visitation for the Sick – With the lack of

communication with hospitals, nursing homes and rehab centers, we seldom find out when our parishioners are in one of these facilities unless the family notifies us. The Holy Eucharist can be brought to these individuals by a Eucharistic Minister. We also attend to the disabled, aged and shut in. Please notify Jody in the Parish office at 908-876-3515 so we can be attentive to those in need.

Anointing of the Sick – it’s not what you think. If you are going into

the hospital for an operation, sick or chronically i ll then the Anointing of the Sick sacrament is meant to give strength, support and comfort while struggling with these afflictions. Many think the Anointing of the Sick is the same as Last Rites given at the time of death but they are different. Also, the healing that occurs in this sacrament of anointing is not necessarily physical healing. While physical healing can certainly occur through the great power of God, the spiritual power that is imparted through this special sacrament is the reminder of the eternal presence of God. Should you or a family member need the healing of this sacrament, please contact the Parish Office at 908-876-3515.
