Pros

• Although we work in excel and access it does provide us huge amounts of flexibility with the possibility to build whatever we need in the confounds of our abilities.

• With the current structure of KPI data we are able to foresee marginal impacts from internal manufacturing or global currency impacts very quick and we can act correctly upon them in order to protect our margin.

• Assistance on multiple departments is possible with custom tools that are based on the main data source.

Cons

• Regarding formulas and structures are quite complex, it will take some time to build.

• Working from access and excel is often delicate and error sensitive especially when working from a platform with multiple users. Errors can easily happen on active formulas and text/number format issues can block vital components.

• No source of truth so we are also comparing systems to each other in order to maintain a healthy “source of truth” in multiple systems.

• Time consuming to maintain and to update all different tools in case of changes.

• Most knowledge is stored within this position so it has a certain liability if something ever happens to the position.
