Hello Lincoln Land hope this finds you healthy and in good spirits.
Another state party has come and gone in Petersburg. Hope you are one of the Lincoln Land members who came in and join the party. Thanks to those who helped at
the event.
Here are some of the things that came up at the BOD meeting. Motorcycles are out of the noise bill, decimal meters in Chicago would cost the State Police too much money.
Cycle Rider training money this supposed to be put in a trust fund with a trustee, trying to get a trustee put in place. They say it sounds like they're trying to let the cycle Rider training die. If the budget isn't passed the training will stop July 1st. We need to call our Representatives and say this training is important.
Let the state Legislative coordinator know about any motorcycle profiling.
As soon as the budget is passed the off-road park will get started up. They are ready to start making the trails and getting other things in place.
Paul Burden was appointed our historian and we'll come up with the written history of the 30 years of A.B.A.T.E.
Support our sponsors, keep those membership applications with you.

Greetings and salutations from you friendly Legislative / Public Relations / Newsletter / Social media / whatever else is needed - Chapter Officer. If you wonder what it's like having that many offices, well the title of this article should clue you in. Here's the thing when juggling, no matter how good you may be, eventually you drop something. That would be why we didn't have a July newsletter. I only have so much time available.
Now I know what you're thinking, "Ski, if you don't have enough time for this stuff, then why do you take it on?" The answer? Because no one else has stepped up despite my asking for volunteers. I'm your legislative person, and I can handle PR related to legislation. In order to do that effectively, I need others to step up to newsletter, and to PR for Chapter events. If you're interested in helping on these things, let us know. I promise you will have support in those roles from experienced people.
As for current legislative issues, there really isn't anything moving at this time. What is happening is behind the scenes positioning for elections next year. I'm working with our supported candidates to make sure they have resources available from ABATE if they need it. This is the secret to how ABATE remains successful at the State House and in Congress. It's also very difficult because of the incredibly hostile environment that is Illinois politics.
Politics in general has become a very polarized and nasty business where drive by attacks and big money carry the day over common sense and working together. This has caused many good friends at the State House to lose faith in the process and retire. There may be a record number of retirees this season, which means a whole new crop of freshman to teach about ABATE next year. The first impression we make with these new faces is how they will remember ABATE.
Keep that in mind when you interact with elected officials online, or when you call their office. If you're nasty, rude, or angry with them, that's the impression they will have of ABATE in general. If you have a profile pic of your bike, your vest, or ABATE, and you leave nasty comments on Facebook for elected offi-cials - guess what? You just helped create a negative image of bikers everywhere. Keep these things in mind when making the calls that you'll be asked to make on our issues in the upcoming season.
I’ll see you at the VFW on August 17th at 7:00pm - SKI

Accidents & Riding Skills ….
There have been an awful lot of motorcycle fatalities already this year. They are blaming dehydration on a lot of accidents this year. Drink plenty of fluids( other than al-cohol) when you are riding in the warm weather.
If you have to take the writing test to renew your license, or just want to hold up on your writing skills chapter member Don Huckstep can help you. Don sets of cones to ride around behind Halls on Mondays at 6 p.m. when it's not raining. You can call Don at 899-6467.

LINCOLN LAND STRONG!!!!
We are doing a good job again this year, but not as good as we have in years past. We sit at 124 new members for this year which is a great job. If you have signed someone up this year, I thank you very much. If you haven’t, you need to get out and sign someone up. We all are membership coordinators in this organization. One person can’t do it all so everyone needs to do their part by recruiting a new member or bring someone back into the chapter.
Sign your Mom's and Dad's up, sign your Sons and Daughters up, Sign your Aunts Un-cles and Cousins up. Hell, sign up your boss and coworkers..... REMEMBER, you don't have to own a motorcycle to be a member, just the willingness to support our cause.
If you get 10 members you get a free membership. Make State A.B.A.T.E. Pay for your membership. Leave no body unasked to be a member of Lincoln Land ABATE.
Remember to tell everyone ALL RIDERS AND BIKES WELCOME. COME TRY US OUT FOR SIZE.
