Hawaii Foodbank 2016 Annual Report Helping to Feed Hawaii’s Hungry!
The people of Hawaii are one ohana. The Hawaii Foodbank provides food so that no one in our family goes hungry. We work to gather food and support from our communities. We then distribute
our mission with integrity, humanity and aloha.
Our Mission
Dear Friends,
Aloha from Hawaii Foodbank!
For 33 years, the Hawaii Foodbank has served our ohana. We collect, inspect and warehouse food, including canned goods, perishables and fresh produce for re-distribution to 287,000 people
— including 47,894 children and more than 46,000 seniors.
We do not do it alone. We are very grateful that caring folks like you support our mission and work side by side with us. Together, we will continue to provide hunger relief in our community every single day.
Thank you very much for your contribution to help feed Hawaii’s hungry.

The Hawaii Foodbank on Oahu and Kauai received over 13.7 million pounds of perishable and nonperishable food, including 3.8 million pounds of fresh produce in
Mahalo to the generous support of food industry donors, as well as company and community food drives throughout the year.
Of the food received, nearly 2.3 million pounds were purchased, including 1.4 million pounds of fresh produce — thanks to your monetary donations and grant funding. In addition, Hawaii Foodbank committed a portion of our
support helped us obtain potatoes, onions, apples, pears and rice, as well as cans of beef stew, spaghetti, chili, luncheon meat and tuna.
Over 12.8 million pounds of food were distributed from our warehouse locations in Mapunapuna on Oahu and Puhi Industrial Park on Lihue, Kauai. Of the total pounds that were distributed, about one third consisted of fresh produce.
The Hawaii Foodbank partnered with nearly 200 member agencies last year. Dedicated agency staff and volunteersassembled and distributed food bags, prepared and served meals and organized community-wide food distributions across Oahu. Their compassion and hard work with islanders in need, helped distribute millions of pounds of food last year.
We also shipped 115,036 pounds of food to the Maui Food Bank.

Keiki Programs
From September 2015 through May 2016, 385 students from low-income families at Princess Victoria Kaiulani Elementary School in Kalihi received food through the Food 4 Keiki Backpack Program.
with nutritious and easy-to-prepare foods to take home over the weekends. Backpacks were packed with pasta meals, soups, cereals, fruit, apple sauce and pudding cups, snacks, chocolate milk and fruit juice.
Mahalo to our program donors who helped us purchase food and backpacks to provide meals to children at risk of hunger. And thank you to our volunteer groups who donated their time and efforts. They truly gave from their hearts to prepack the food throughout the school year.
The Sodexo Foundation and the Hawaii Foodbank have partnered over the past 12 years to organize Feeding Our Future — a summer lunch program for children at risk of hunger.
Each year, the Sodexo Foundation purchases a $25,000 supply of food for the program. The food is then stored in the Sodexo facility at University of Hawaii at Manoa, where the staff cooks hot meals for participating Foodbank agencies to pick up and distribute.

Ohana Produce Plus ProgramOver the last 19 years, the Hawaii Foodbank and our member agencies have distributed millions of pounds of fresh produce and food to underserved communities on Oahu, through the Ohana Produce Plus Program. Donated and purchased food has been distributed in communities island-wide to low-income families, the elderly, disabled, the homeless and the working poor.
Last year, the Foodbank worked with 29 member agencies to distribute over

Ohana community food distributions distributed food to an average of and helped feed even more people. Each person received food for a household of two or more members. For many families, the Ohana Produce Plus Program is their only source of fresh fruits and vegetables.

“Over the years, coming out to volunteer has been one of the better decisions I have made. I was raised with food on the table and didn’t have to worry about the next meal.
