! ! ! ! !

Can you imagine what the future of our children will look like as they enter their workplace? Using the technological advances of the last ten years alone, you can see how different their world will be. In today’s world, education should prepare students for a world that can only be imagined and for jobs that don’t yet exist.

As parents, grandparents, educators and mentors, we are charged with providing a 21st Century education that fuses the 3 R’s and the 5 C’s that ensure preparedness. Reading, writing, and arithmetic are no longer enough. The skill set of the 21st Century is a melding of the 3 R’s and the 5 C’s: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and character. This skill set will help them embrace the BIG C – Change!

Change happens when we work together. Let me take a moment to highlight how our Hendricks Fund donations made a difference:

• New Classrooms• More Resources• Tuition Assistance• Campus Expansion Project• Technology Upgrades

Thank you for supporting Hendricks Day School of Jacksonville as we reach into the 21st Century!

God Bless,

Sally D. Lo" Head  of  School1994  -‐  2012

Head of School Message

Page 3: Hendricks Day School 2011-12 Annual Report

Dear Hendricks Community,

Incredible! That’s the best way I can describe what we have at Hendricks Day School – the education, the community, the culture and of course, the students. The work completed in the 2011-2012 school year has been substantial. We have successfully managed our Head of School transition, seen improvements to academics and resource offerings and updated our strategic plan. The focus is on educating our students for their future and a dedication to fostering excellence in all we do.

The Head of School transition, the first in 17 years, is a clear example of our ability to work as a strong team. The search resulted in the Board’s unanimous decision to select Linda Johnson following the enthusiastic and unanimous recommendation of the Search Committee. During her tenure as principal, Hendricks trustees, faculty, staff, parents and alumni have been impressed by her intelligence, integrity, social conscience and compassion. Her work demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence and a track record of positive results. Her outstanding skills will serve us well as we continue to build on our strengths, working together to educate the next generation of Hendricks students.

From the classrooms to the boardroom, affection for our school is palpable. Older alumni verify that the relationships formed while attending school at HDS remain strong. Many students are entering as a second generation of students. Your time and money help form this warm and nurturing community and make these lasting ties possible.

As we bring to a close another exciting year with this annual report, you can’t help but notice the enthusiasm that is building throughout the HDS family. These pages are filled with the names of people and organizations dedicated to making our school and our community the best it can be; individuals who know that investments made in our school today change the lives of our students for the future. As a board member and parent, I’m proud of our collective dedication and collaboration to achieving our mission.

I thank you for your continued support of HDS and look forward to even greater success as we prepare our students for their own futures.

Hendricks In The Community

Tab CollectionEvery year, the students, families, faculty and staff pop and collect tabs from their aluminum cans. The tabs are tallied and then sent to the Ronald McDonald House where they use them to recycle and raise funds for their operating costs. This year we were able to collect 890,880 tabs which is more than double the amount we collected last year. Way to go Raiders!

Voices of HendricksOur very own Voices of Hendricks had many wonderful performances this year culminating with their annual performance of the National Anthem at a Jacksonville Suns game!

Red Kettle CampaignThe Red Kettle Campaign of the Salvation Army thanks the National Junior Honor Society at Hendricks Day School for their partnership with us in ringing the bells across Duval County. Your group raised $752.59. It is indeed "the miracle of the bells" when the donations from the community feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and provide for so many in need.

National Junior Honor SocietyThis has been a very successful year for the National Junior Honor Society!

Here are some of the major accomplishments for this year: • Volunteered 245 total hours at The Boselli Foundation's Youth Life Learning Centers tutoring and mentoring elementary children• Donated 72 ink cartridges and 5 cases of paper to The Boselli Foundation• Hosted The Blizzard Bash, a middle school dance to raise money for the school and The Boselli Foundation

• Donated 3 Bamboo Tablets and 3 document cameras to the school• Volunteered for The Salvation Army by being bell-ringers for a total of 40 service hours• Donated 3 SAM animation software licenses to the school

Parent Teacher OrganizationDear Families,

The Hendricks Day School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) was busy providing “fun and fund” raising activities throughout the 2011/2012 school year. Even before school started, we were busy planning the Monster Bash. Our yearly evening of entertainment and fun for Hendricks families and friends raised close to $9,000. From the duck pond to the dunking booth, there were activities for all ages. Coach Neel provided a delicious bar-b-que dinner and the middle school enjoyed their fall dance. In the Spring, Hendricks parents went totally tubular as we celebrated the 80’s at the 2012 Dinner & Auction. 125 guests were treated to live entertainment; a delicious dinner; and over 250 baskets, teacher treasures and live auction items. Thanks to the generosity of our Hendricks families, staff, and friends, the auction raised $25,000.

The Monster Bash and the Auction were the two main PTO sponsored events this year, but the PTO was busy all year long providing support to Hendricks students, families, and staff. Our hospitality volunteers have been busier than ever. We started our year off with the “Boo Hoo Rah Rah” coffee to celebrate the start of school, held several breakfasts and lunches for our incredible Hendricks staff, and provided refreshments for the Winter Showcase. At the end of the year, we honored our Hendricks faculty and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week with an on campus breakfast and an off campus luncheon at Secret Garden.

Hendricks parents were also very busy! Every Friday, students were treated to snow cones or popcorn served by parent volunteers. Our fabulous room mothers planned several class parties, organized the Superlative Dance, and provided the refreshments at the 8th grade graduation. Thanks to your persistence in cutting out those little squares, the PTO received over $1,300 from Box Tops.

The PTO sponsored a new event this year, a campus wide Spring party. The entire school celebrated the start of spring together with an egg hunt, fun games, a hot dog lunch, and even a visit from the Easter Bunny! We ended the year with a Used Uniform Sale that gives parents an opportunity to purchase gently used uniforms at a very affordable price.

Through all of our fundraising and “fun” raising activities for the 2011/2012 school year, the PTO raised almost $35,000 that will be given to the school. $1,000 went to the Athletic Department for Coach Neel’s support during the Monster Bash, and the remainder of the funds will be used to help strengthen and enrich the fine arts programs at Hendricks.

The PTO has had a wonderful year! Everyone has worked very hard to support the school and enhance the HDS experience for your children. Planning has already begun for next year! Thank you for your support of PTO activities. Hendricks families are the best!!

Friends Of HendricksFriends of Hendricks was formed to support the mission of Hendricks Day School through socialization, service to community and school support. Membership is open to all alumni, parents of alumni as well as local businesses affiliated with Hendricks Day School. The board’s goal is to raise funds for the school and have fun doing so! This is a great way to stay connected with the many friends you have made through Hendricks whether you are an alumni or parent of an alumni. The group’s fundraisers this year consisted of Fundraising for the Future clothing drive, annual garage sale and concessions at the Gator Bowl game and the Monster Truck Jam. Thanks to the generosity of our Hendricks community, we were able to provide three scholarships for Middle School field trips.
