First Year Hanover ‘04Thad.McCracken,.a.Bedford,.Ind..native,.enters.his.first.season.at.the.helm.of.the.men’s.basketball.program.after.a.standout.2009-10.season.as.the.Hendrix.women’s.head.coach.

McCracken.first.served.as.the.men’s.assistant.coach.under.Dan.Priest’s.tenure.for.four.seasons.(2005-09).and.was.named.the.head.women’s.coach.after.Chris.Hitchcock.resigned.following.the.2008-09.season.

McCracken.guided.the.Warriors.through.one.of.the.most.excit-ing.women’s.campaigns.in.Hendrix.history.with.its.first.Southern.Collegiate.Athletic.Conference.(SCAC).Western.Division.title.after.finishing.20-5.overall.and.13-3.in.SCAC.play...Hendrix’s.post.season.run.ended.with.an.86-77.loss.to.Centre.College.in.the.semifinal.round.of.the.conference.tournament.

He.takes.over.a.men’s.team.that.won.just.seven.games.last.season.and.will.look.to.bring.back.a.winning.tradition...“I.expect.our.upperclassmen.to.bring.back.the.winning.mentality.like.we.had.in.years.past...I.think.they.need.to.accept.nothing.less.than.their.best,.continue.to.work.hard.every.day,.bring.out.the.best.in.their.team-mates.and.lead.by.example...I.hope.to.see.a.lot.of.discipline.out.of.my.team...I.hope.fans.will.see.a.defensive.minded.team.that.pays.attention.to.details.and.plays.with.a.lot.of.discipline.”

While.he.was.coaching.at.Transylvania,.McCracken.earned.his.master’s.in.Sports.Administration.from.Eastern.Kentucky.University.

A.2004.graduate.of.Hanover.College,.McCracken.earned.a.bachelor’s.in.Business.Administration...He.won.four.HCAC.Championships.and.made.two.NCAA.D-III.National.Tournament.appearances.during.his.playing.career.at.Hanover...

Drew.Gaeng.enters.his.second.season.as.the.men’s.basketball.assistant...Gaeng.was.a.standout.point.guard.for.the.Roanoke.College.(Salem,.Va.).Maroons...He.served.as.Team.Captain.for.Roa-noke.his.senior.year.and.led.the.team.with.46.3-pointers,.74.assists.and.averaged.6.7.points.per.game...Gaeng.guided.the.Maroons.to.a.13-game.win.streak.to.start.the.2008-09.season.and.was.ranked.as.high.as.18th.in.the.D3Hoops.com.National.Top-25.poll.

History of the SCACThe.Southern.Collegiate.Athletic.Conference.(SCAC).celebrates.its.25th.Anniversary.in.2010-11.with.countless.memories.of.a.proud.and.storied.past.and.visions.of.an.exciting.future...

The.SCAC.was.founded.and.began.operation.on.September.1,.1962,.as.the.College.Athletic.Conference.(CAC)..The.league’s.first.primary.mark.is.pictured.on.the.left.

Centre.College.of.Danville,.Kentucky;.South-western.at.Memphis.(Tennessee).(now.known.as.Rhodes.College);.The.University.of.the.South.of.Sewanee,.Tennessee;.and.Washington.and.Lee.University.of.Lexington,.Virginia,.were.the.four.charter.members.of.the.conference..Later.in.1962,.Washington.University.of.St..Louis,.Missouri,.became.the.fifth.member.and.the.CAC.remained.unchanged.until.1972..

Following.membership.changes.throughout.the.1970s.and.1980s,.the.conference.went.through.restructuring.and.renaming..With.the.addition.

of.Millsaps.College.of.Jackson,.Mississippi,.and.Trinity.University.of.San.Antonio,.Texas,.in.1988.and.Hendrix.College.of.Conway,.Arkanasas,.and.Oglethorpe.University.of.

Atlanta,.Georgia,.in.1991,.membership.reached.a.then.all-time.high.of.eight.

That.same.year.(1991),.the.conference.renamed.itself.the.Southern.Collegiate.Athletic.Conference,.hired.its.first.full-time.commissioner.-.Stephen.P..Argo.-.and.a.permanent.conference.office.was.established.in.Atlanta,.Georgia..As.part.of.restructuring,.the.league.also.adopted.its.current.primary.mark.(pictured.right).and.adopted.blue.(pms.287).and.gold.(pms.131).as.the.official.colors.of.the.conference.

Membership.changes.continued.throughout.the.‘90s..The.SCAC.added.Southwestern.University.of.Georgetown,.Texas,.in.1993.with.participa-tion.beginning.in.the.1994-95.academic.year..In.1997-98,.the.SCAC.added.both.DePauw.University.of.Greencastle,.Indiana,.and.Rose-Hul-man.Institute.of.Technology.of.Terre.Haute,.Ind.,.with.participation.beginning.in.1998-99.

As.part.of.a.year-long.celebration.in.2005-06,.the.league.celebrated.its.15th.anniversary.as.the.restructured.SCAC..The.league.adopted.a.special.anniversary.logo.(pictured.left).and.as.part.of.the.celebration,.15th.an-niversary.teams.were.selected.for.all.conference.sponsored.sports.

After.Rose-Hulman.announced.its.intentions.to.leave.the.conference,.Austin.College.and.Colorado.College.were.confirmed.as.the.10th.and.11th.members.of.the.league.in.2006.with.participation.beginning.in.the.2006-07.academic.year.Birmingham-Southern.College.of.Birmingham,.Alabama,.a.former.member.of.the.Division.I.Big.South.Conference,.was.approved.as.the.12th.member.of.the.SCAC.and.began.play.in.2007-08.

On.the.national.athletics.stage,.the.SCAC.has.had.its.fair.share.of.success.-.both.in.terms.of.team.championships.(six).and.individual.champion-ships.(19).

SCAC Academic ProfileThe.SCAC.and.its.member.institutions.are.committed.to.maintaining.high.academic.standards..The.member.institutions.are.committed.to.the.principle.that.a.quality.college.athletics.program.is.beneficial.to.the.well-being.of.an.institution.in.that.it.benefits.the.entire.campus.com-munity.as.well.as.the.student-athletes.

With.11.of.the.12.member.institutions.maintaining.Phi.Beta.Kappa.chapters.(Hendrix.included).on.their.campuses,.the.SCAC.boasts.some.of.the.most.prestigious.colleges.and.universities.in.the.nation..SCAC.schools.are.consistently.ranked.among.the.top.50.colleges.and.universi-ties.in.the.nation.in.such.respected.publications.as.Barron’s,.Peterson’s,.Princeton.Review.and.National.Review.College.Guide.
