Annual General Meeting

Members of the National Trust, volunteers at the Museum, other stakeholders and local residents are invited to join us for our Annual General Meeting at 7:00 pm on Tuesday 13 August.

This is your chance to review last year’s activities and financial results, consider the next, and elect a new Management Committee.

You are also invited to bring an item of significance to you and tell us about it – ‘show and tell’.

Supper and time for a chat will complete the evening.

Medal of the Order of Australia

Congratulations to one of our volunteers, Graeme Pascoe, on being awarded an OAM for service to the community through Lions Clubs Australia.

Heritage on Sunday – April – Spud Fest

288 people visited our festival of everything potato. We saw them ... crafted them ... played with them ... experimented with them ... ate them ... joked about them ... sang of them ... danced about them ... learned about their place in history.

Many people followed the Facts Quest - answering 20 questions via potatoes throughout the Museum. Plenty of baked potatoes were

consumed, plus hash browns, potato salad and potato streusel cakes.

Thanks to Potatoes South Australia, The Gully Public House and Garden, Lions Clubs of Tea Tree Gully and Modbury, musicians Paul and Anthony, Australian Traditional & Bush Dance Society of SA, Dr Richard Harvey MP. Thanks especially to Mary Jo Zwar for her inspiration and coordination and all our wonderful volunteers.

All Wrapped Up for Winter

Over five days, 358 people visited our yarn bombing extravaganza.

Nearly all the knitted items on display were sold - tea pot cosies were very popular.

During the event, Weekend Sunrise filmed for four hours! The segment went to air the following weekend which was good general promotion for the Museum. Surprising, we subsequently received enquiries about the knitting from NSW and Victoria!

Heritage on Sunday – June – Miniature Magic

In June, Judy Channing and friends, mostly members of SA Miniature Enthusiasts Inc, displayed a wide range of miniature dioramas throughout the main building of the Museum.

They stayed on hand to chat with visitors about their hobby/obsession.

It was particularly interesting to see how different people handled the same ‘set’ challenge.

The event attracted 143 visitors.

If you would like to see more, visit the 34th Annual Festival of Miniatures and Dollhouses on 10-11 August at Woodville Town Hall.

Site development and maintenance

Paving in front of the toilet block is now complete. Meanwhile a new paved area adjacent to the wash-house, where little would grow in the garden, is underway.

Our volunteers have been busy painting the wine shed and agricultural shed floors. Doors have been refurbished. The posts holding the Gawler gate have been replaced. A section of old water pipe has been replaced with copper.

We engaged a professional tree feller to trim trees adjacent to the toilet block, including from overhanging our neighbour. Our roll-out awning has been repaired.

Following a visit from Merilyn Kuchel OAM, a new garden plan has been developed having regard to historical gardens, including fruit trees. In June, the Committee approved the plan and allocated $1,000 towards the purchase of suitable plants - funded from the Jamie Shephard bequest. Purchase and planting is underway. Garden Grove has assisted with expertise and discounted prices.

On the Collection side, a 126 year old dolls’ house has been donated and is currently in the new nursery room upstairs. A shovel back helmet has been donated by the SA Police Historical Association and it, and other changes, have been made to the display in the Police holding cell.
