Commander’s Message

The holidays are here. I want to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

The newsletter is a huge expense to our post. We are trying to go electronic with our newsletter. Please give your email address to the doorman or email it to: adjutant777@stny.rr.com. Thank you to the sons and the auxiliary for step-ping up to pay for the postage.

I also want to welcome the new addition to our kitchen, Chef Chris “Aussie” Dalton. We’re looking forward to some great new dishes!

If you haven’t bought a ticket yet, we are giving away a Samsung table on Christmas Eve. All proceeds will go to our furnace fund. Thank you to Al & Eve-lyn for donating this great prize!

Don’t forget to celebrate with you Legion friends at our annual Tom & Jerry party on Christmas Eve. The party is until 5pm but we’ve extended our hours until 7pm that night.

Well, Holiday time is upon us again. Did everyone have a good Thanksgiving? The November breakfast went very well, it’s good to see a lot of people turn out for a great breakfast!

Just a note that we will not be having a meeting in December.

Please pay your dues soon as December 31st is the deadline. As of January 1st, you will not be allowed in the post without paying them.

I hope to see a lot of you at our 200 Club Party on January 26th from 4-8pm. Sammy Slicker will be playing and we will have a chili cook-off too!

Firing Squad News

The firing squad was not called to provide honors for any Veteran’s funerals during October and November. However, some squad members did assist the County Color Guard at their funeral honors on four occasions.

There are no scheduled events for December or January.

The firing squad is having a recruiting drive. We need more members to provide proper participation for Veteran’s funerals and Legion programs. Con-tact me at 488-9861.

Winter has arrived in Western NY! Our post has made great strides in 2013 but I can’t wait to see where we go in 2014! Have you noticed how busy we’ve been?

Please don’t forget to bring in non-perishable grocery items for our Junior’s food drive which will be donated to a needy veteran’s family from our own post. If you know of a struggling veteran’s family, please email me; your nomi-nation will be kept in confidence. My email address is pleake@stny.rr.com.

We would love to see more of our auxiliary members at our meetings the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm. I promise we don’t bite!

Please remember that dues are due by December 31st. If you would like

your membership card mailed to you, include a self-addressed, stamped enve-

lope with your dues; otherwise you may pick up your card at the post.

Mothers and grandmothers, now would be a great time to sign up your

youngsters for our Junior Auxiliary. Annual dues are only $5.

We continue our Tuesday night dinners except the weeks of Christmas

and New Years. I look forward to seeing many new faces during the winter

months and wish to thank those who have been coming on Tuesdays. We en-

courage suggestions and comments.

Just a reminder, you must get your dues into the post by December 24th. Any dues received after that date go up $5 due to the state Legion increase. After December 24th, dues are $40. For those who receive reduced dues, that amount will now be $32.

Also, make sure that you check before you send your check in. Many of you are sending in dues 2 or 3 times during the year.

Don’t forget to come in and pick up your cards after you’ve paid.
