Interviewing:• Get away from the noise - interview at another time or place if necessary• Get close to the subject - the closer the subjects are to you, the closer they are to the mic• Ask him/her to speak up - it seems obvious, but don’t forget (and you might have to repeat it)• Have a conversation - your own voice from behind the camera will actually add to the reality• Don’t be timid - don’t be afraid to keep pushing and if you need something specific, ask for it• Finish strong - asking, “is there anything else you’d like to add?” may give you your best content• Background matters - interesting, relevant and in contrast to your subject’s attire, but no windows

BRoll (everything that’s not an interview):

• Get close - bring the camera right up to a subject to show texture & details• Get high and low - a bird’s eye view or ant’s eye view may change the perspective entirely• Get sound - you might have to let your subjects know it’s okay to make some noise
