Legal|Regulatory Breakout SessionsLegal|Regulatory Breakout SessionsOrganiza onal Compliance Standards & Procedures | Margaret Chamberlain, Kitch Firm A good compliance program is both form and substance. This section will touch on a little of both. How does a facility structure a compliance program that will work for that organization? The compliance guidance tells us we have to have written policies, procedures and standards of conduct. This could be an overwhelming process, but this program will make it manageable.

Administra ve Oversight of Compliance Programs | Carol Rolf, Rolf Goff man Mar n LangThrough an overview of a real-life case study, participants will identify how to plan and operationalize the activities of a compliance committee. How to plan and properly document effectiveness and how to review your organization’s compliance programs will also be addressed. Participants will learn how to effectively utilize and collaborate with consultants and legal counsel in compliance investigations as well.

Protec ng the Compliance Offi cer’s Authority | Brian Kaser, Rolf Goff man Mar n LangIn this session, participants will be provided with an examination of the inherent tension between compliance and business objectives. Participants will be able to better articulate the need for and means to protect their Corporate Compliance Officer’s independence and be able to successfully evaluate their independence within your organization. A real-life case study will be shared to provide a better understanding.

Communica on of Facility/Corporate Standards & Procedures to Employees | Michael Levine, Levine Law Group Embracing Corporate Compliance as an opportunity for excellence not a regulatory burden is critical to the future success of every skilled nursing facility. A facility’s Corporate Compliance philosophy and operation must be clearly communicated to employees and customers. Participants in this presentation will depart understanding the elements required to successfully achieve these facility goals.

Tools Linking Corporate Compliance to QAPI | Andy Rothman & Vickie Burlew, Lebenbom & RothmanOverwhelmed with so much to do? Corporate Compliance, QAPI, INTERACT III – the long-term care industry is awash with new/revised guidance from HHS. This session will provide participants with practical tools from which to start building your programs. Learn to think from a systems point of view. QAPI is the systematic approach to Corporate Compliance, INTERACT III and many other programs within our operations. This session will provide participants with an organization self-assessment tool, an outline for developing a successful program and a goal setting worksheet.

Assisted Living|Assisted Living|Person-Centered Thinking Breakout SessionsPerson-Centered Thinking Breakout Sessions

Time Management and Personal Eff ec veness | Mark O , Independent ConsultantTime is one of the most valued commodities, yet we allow outside distractions to impact it. It is not managing time that is the problem; it is the control of outside forces impacting our time. Individuals must make the effort to consider those forces, change their concept of time and see how it can make a lasting impact on their business and personal life. Goal setting is one of the key ingredients.

The AHCA/NCAL Quality Ini a ve for Assisted Living: Part I & II | Lindsay Schwartz, Na onal Center for Assisted LivingIn 2012, NCAL released the AHCA/NCAL Quality Initiative for Assisted Living which has four goals: safely reduce hospital readmissions, improve staff stability, increase resident satisfaction, and safely reduce the off-label use of antipsychotics. This seminar will be an in-depth discussion about the Quality Initiative for Assisted Living and the tools to support the goals including the INTERACT III tools. We will examine how to best measure these outcomes and the importance of these four goals. An overview of how data collection efforts by NCAL including the Performance Measures Survey and the Vacancy, Retention, and Turnover survey can support the Quality Initiative. The role of a Patient Safety Organization to collect Tier II Clinical performance data will be also discussed.

Ramifi ca ons of Licensed and Unlicensed Care | David Wiegel, Kitch FirmIn this presentation, participants will examine the extent of what licensed care means, limitations of unlicensed care and the ramifications of de-licensing in the assisted living continuum. Participants will better understand what is allowable and what is prohibited. Regulatory issues and civil litigation will also be addressed.

Person-Centered Thinking across the LTC Con nuum | Stacey Starling, Starling Center for Organiza onal DevelopmentExplore the sociological and psychological roots of the person-centered perspective and its application in practice at the point of service within a long-term care environment. Moreover, learn to distinguish the nuances of the person-centered approaches across the LTC continuum and leverage this understanding as a means to favorably position your organization within the emerging ADRC marketplace.

Integra ng Person-Centered Planning Core Values & Essen al Elements into Prac ce: Part I & II Stacey Starling, Starling Center for Organiza onal DevelopmentIn this two part session, participants discover the PCP core values and essential elements (as adopted by the Department of Community Health, 2009) in action at the point of service within a long-term care environment; and modeled through actions of leadership. Participants also discover and examine their own embedded biases and how those biases are played out when interacting with people during an exchange of care and service. The session also provides the opportunity to examine aspects of power and privilege held by people (clinicians) in organizations and how a misuse of “clinician-as-expert” can rob customers/individuals of their rights to respect and decision-making about their own lives, thus potentially resulting in poor clinical outcomes.

A Person-Centered System Transforma on & Care Transi oning | Stacey Starling, Starling Center for Organiza onal DevelopmentTremendous attention is being placed on reducing hospital readmissions and the ways and means that providers direct people through the continuum of service with the aim to impact clinical outcomes, while mitigating risk and maximizing profit for the organization. A Person-Centered approach is a cultural shift from the traditional medical model to incorporate more individualized and inclusive approaches to care and service. In application, a person-centered approach leverages strengths, develops capacities, and focuses on both the process of health/services management and the desired outcomes. This session aims to discover and examine emerging trends in collaborative practice across the continuum that serves to uphold person-centered philosophy and the goals setforth with care transitioning initiatives.
