Note from the Vice President With November quickly approaching, we’ve got cooler temperatures, falling leaves and the holidays. There is always major concerns when the leaves begin to accumulate on our streets and lawns. As in previous years, Brickman will be taking care of the leaves, but remember there are 298 homes to clean up, and they can't all be done at once.

Holidays are quickly approaching and the months of November and December will be quite busy. Our Treasurer and Finance Committee are currently working on putting together our 2015 budget. Decorations for Halloween and Thanksgiving have been completed. The Stretch & Flex group has volunteered to help decorate for Christmas and Hanukkah.

There will be a Meet the Candidates Night on November 3 at 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Having now served for 1 year (yes, it’s my 1st anniversary), I can tell you although it takes work and dedication, it can also be very rewarding. I am quite happy that I elected to run and the residents voted me in. Remember, it is always nice to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. We have two positions to fill and only have one candidate that has signed up. It's not to late to sign up, but it needs to be ASAP. Applications can be found on the hall wall rack across from the library in the Clubhouse. Come join us, you won't regret being part of the team. Questions? Feel free to give me a call. To reiterate Morty's message last month, "Any successful community relies on the efforts of those who are serving on the Board or on the committees which provide direction for our community activities."

Our annual meeting at Green Hope High School will take place on Tuesday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. At this time you will have the opportunity to vote in your choice for Board candidates. At this meeting you will also be presented the 2015 Annual Budget. Please mark your calendars.

The aeration of our lawns have been completed. Remember to water, so our lawns can get back to pre-summer conditions.

According to the NCDOT, the headaches related to the Green Hope "Roundabout" are expected to be over within the next week or so. Grounds Committee Report

Fall flowers are in place along the entrances to Heritage Pines and on the grounds of the Clubhouse. We appreciate all the positive comments we have received on the spring reconfiguration of the flower beds and plantings.

As we head into fall, homeowners with sprinkler systems will be having the BACK FLO shut off. This might be a good time to consider having the system checked for potential problems.

It was a rainy summer; to be precise 9.31 inches above normal. Between July 14th and Oct 11th we had 22.04 inches of rain. “Normal” is 12.73. This made it exceedingly difficult for the Brickman crew to manage mowing. If the ground was too wet they risked leaving deep tire tracks. Weeds were prolific. Complaints were numerous. Yet, as we look at an overview of Heritage Pines end of October, in general the property appears well maintained. Our office staff is often complimented by realtor and potential buyers.

Now we are heading into November, and the leaves have begun to drop. As we try to remind you every year—the issue of fall leaf pick up is always complicated, and it also often depends on the vagaries of weather. Yet each and every year, it is managed and the leaves are removed. There is a plan. We assure you each year the plan is revised somewhat, due to what was learned the previous year. As our community ages up, there are more and more leaves. Some tree species drop leaves earlier or later than others. It would be very helpful if you make certain to read THE BRICKMAN ARTICLE in this edition ON LEAF REMOVAL. By educating ourselves we know what is reasonable to expect.

There will be a talk by Brickman staff on Monday, November 10th on REJUVENATIVE PRUNING. (Sign up required) Over 40 homeowners had this type

Christmas Sing-a-Long It may not look a lot like Christmas now, but the holidays are fast approaching. November is almost here, and the Heritage Pines Singers are hard at work preparing songs to celebrate the season. Our annual holiday songfest is planned for Sunday, December 7 at 7 pm. Join us for fun, laughter, song and dessert to usher in the holidays for we all “Need a Little Christmas.” The cost of the program is $5.00 and the sign up deadline is Monday, November 24.

Holiday Dinner Party Come join the fun on Saturday, December 13 at 5:30 pm for our annual Holiday Dinner Party. The

menu will be Ziti Alforno, Rigatoni ala Bolognese, Eggplant Parmesan, green salad, dessert and beverage catered by Lugano’s. Cost is $15.00, sign up deadline is Monday, November 24 and seating is limited. Bring your own beverage for the 5:30 pm before dinner gathering with live music. Dinner will begin to be served at 6 pm.

of pruning done in early 2014, with great success. This service will be offered again this year, at no additional cost to the homeowner. Please try to attend to educate yourself on the benefits. Sign up is required for this service, as is an onsite meeting between the homeowner and a Brickman representative, prior to the pruning.

Grounds Committee

Hello Heritage Pines Residents

Autumn has officially begun, as is evidenced by the array of colors we are starting to see on our trees. Though they are falling slowly right now, we all know that the leaves will pick up speed as time moves on, and removing them from your yards and walkways will become a primary focus for our landscaping team over the next several weeks.

Much like last year, we plan to begin in the back yards, blowing out the leaves from the beds, under the shrubs, and in the lawns. Much of these leaves, especially early in the season, can be mulched by our mowers as we mow. However, as we get further into the season, the leaves become too plentiful for this to be effective.

There are some challenges we face every year in our leaf removal approach. Mother Nature can often throw us some curve balls, be it with higher rainfalls like those we have seen coming into this fall, or strong breezes, which may feel great as we say goodbye to the summer, but are not helpful for herding fallen leaves. The rain causes leaves to become heavier and stick to hard surfaces, diminishing the effectiveness of some of our removal techniques. The wind can easily redistribute a carefully laid pile of leaves, or quickly repopulate a freshly blown area with a single gust. We will be working hard to ensure your lawns and walkways are as leaf-free as possible, and will appreciate your patience as work our way through the

community.

The Town of Cary will once again be sending out a leaf-vac team to help us dispose of the gathered leaves. This is a huge help, as it frees up more of our crew’s time to focus on clearing the leaves from your yards, as well as our normal day-to-day landscaping tasks. However, it also means that you may see leaves being piled on the curb in preparation for pick up. Please be assured if and when you see this happening that this is part of our plan to effectively and efficiently keep the neighborhood clean and free of leaves.

Thank you all, as always, for allowing us to work with you to keep Heritage Pines looking its best. Enjoy this cooler weather, and we wish you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
