RESEARCH

Key points of the research Airmate’s 2010 commoditiesFrame of the research
This research is mainly aimed at two principle goals. One is the Product Identify (PI) which started on summer
2010 commodities. One is decreasing the prime cost of conditioner fan – the main commodity in summer.
I have been involved in the PI research since winter 2010 commodities. While Airmate has gone through OEM
and is engaging in ODM, we exerted to address a conspicuous fi gure of our products.
Besides, since Airmate has delivered several remarkable conditioner fans, in summer 2010, it focused on the
market of economical conditioner fan. Thus, the prime cost became the essential issue. We examined the
producing process thoroughly to fi gure out

Key points of Airmate 2011 Conditioner Fan Refer to proposal of Conditioner Fan in page 42~49
42 Hsieh, Hsi-Yang
According to the research in page 34~41
Conditioner Fan is an appropriate commodity
for staff and workers in China. It can be adopted
all the year round while it possesses functions
including fan, heater and humidifier. Since
there is usually no air conditioner in a rental
house for staff and workers in China, a portable
conditioner fan is more favorable.
With the information from sales and the former
research, I delivered this proposal.

Target Market: France
Quality Requirement: High
Quantity: Few
Bathroom heater is a unique product in France , operating
in bathroom. It is also called “Towel Heater”. People turn
it on when showering in winter for a cozy temperature;
meanwhile, the heater warms up the towel. After showering,
people can be wrapped in dry and warm towel.

Humidifier
Target Market: Korea
The only appointment of this case was “humidifi er”.
The client had no idea about this case.
According to the target market what our customer
was familiar with and the general aesthetic of
Korean, I inserted some of my own concepts and
proposed to customer. In addition, I made each
proposal could be amended to either intellectual
model or classic model, providing an alternative
choice.

Fan Plate
Target Market: KoreaModel: S355KT3, S443KT3, S450KT3Quantity: Great
Fan plate is a challenge for any fresh designer of Airmate. While the main manufacture is
fan, Airmate launches immense quantity of new fanes for both domestic and international
markets. However, developing work would not take place so often. Most of the time, we
just changed part of the fan, like plate, for a new appearance.
The most diffi cult part in this case was that I could not change any thing of the fan but the
plate. While fan has gone through a long history, assorted shape and design have existed.
A fresh designer is expected to bring some novel but not so unique ideas into this kind of
case. Besides, a plate is the secondary part of a fan not the principal, so it should not be
over designed but should support the principal part - the controlling panel.
Going through lots of trial and error, I decided to keep the plate “silent”. Some are
designed with very simple lines; some are designed to back up the control panel; and
some have corroded pattern on them.

To make sure that the engineer could understand the function of each button, I
asked for help to translate all the Korean words into Simple Chinese and attached
this picture to the devolved fi le.

For the interest in anatomy of art and
reinforcing myself to be more sensible of
shape, I trained myself by clay sculpture.
I also applied this cognition to sketch for
a more precise observation of shape.
Besides the shape, I got knowledge of
our body structures. That helps me to
comprehend Human Factors Engineering
easier.

Public Art
I was involved in this project at its fi nishing stage.
It was a project of public art. The work is settled
in a park in White River Town where is famous
for water lily for dwellers to have a place to rest.
In order to communicate with dwellers, most of
the works took place at the site. Therefore, during
the work, we could interact with dwellers and
learn about their thought of the environment they
live. There were also explaining meetings with
dwellers. I did part of the works, including settling
down wires, filling concrete, and some other
fi nishing works.

Executive of Exhibition
I was appointed to be the decoration executive of graduation exhibition when I was senior. I led a group of classmates
handling two interior decorations of exhibition.
I innovatively launch a frame of task distribution. In former frame, the executive used to be both designer and supervisor,
resulting in a phenomenon that the exhibition became the executives’ own business, and other stuffs lost the passion of
attendance. At last, the executives exhausted and were exploited by the exhibition. Other members might feel kind of guilty
but didn’t know how to give a hand. However, I redistributed the duty of each member. First, I avoided the supervisor to
be the designer. My partners (the other two executive) and I took the work of supervising only, and did the communicating
work, supporting every member to participate merely in the decoration work without worrying about the business with
carpentry, the negotiation of exhibiting area, the communication with other schools and the cooperation with each subgroup.
I distributed works to every member, lessening the load of work on everyone to the least, avoiding that some took extreme
load of work while some had nothing to do. Then, everyone could also pay more attention on their graduation thesis. I
also tried to assign every task precisely, insuring that people who took the task could exactly accomplish it on time. In my
opinion, there is no inadequate co-worker but improper assignment and fail communication.
Nevertheless, I did make some faults during this task. First, I focused too much on the fl uency of work and neglected the
design, resulting in that the theme was obscure. Second, with the lack of exhibition experience in such scale, I could not
foresee problems in advance, causing some cognitive disputes on design. However, this gave me an opportunity to learn
how to deal with the mistakes.
In the whole, it was a joyful experience, and my effort got delightful feed back. I am confi dent to conduct a better exhibition
next time.
