Easter Sunday

Alleluia! Happy Easter! They all thought Jesus was

dead forever! April Fools! He has risen from the

dead! This is the day the Lord has made, so let us re-

joice and be glad! The Resurrection of Jesus really

happened. Not many people want to believe that a

person can rise from the dead. Even more people do

not want to believe that Jesus rose from the dead, but

he did.

When I was a teenager we had a pregnant cat. All of

Lent we watched her get bigger and bigger. The cool

thing is on Easter morning that year us kids noticed

that she was skinny and sticky! She had her litter of

kittens. Her womb was empty like the tomb of Jesus.

But it was strange that we couldn’t find the kittens.

We looked everywhere for them before and after

Mass, but did not find them that day. It was more ex-

citing than an Easter egg hunt! The amazing truth of

the resurrection reminds me of that Easter Sunday.

His friends looked for him, and even though they did-

n’t find him, they began to believe that he was no

longer dead. They were like April Fools.

There’s more to the Resurrection than an empty tomb

and April fools. I’ll share more about the cat next

week.

Domingo de Pascua

¡Aleluya! ¡Felices Pascuas! ¡Todos pensaban que

Jesús había muerto para siempre! ¡Día de los Inocen-

tes! ¡Él ha resucitado de entre los muertos! Este es el

día que el Señor ha hecho, ¡así que regocíjense y estén

contentos! La Resurrección de Jesús realmente

sucedió. No muchas personas quieren creer que una

persona puede levantarse de entre los muertos. Aún

más personas no quieren creer que Jesús resucitó de

entre los muertos, pero lo hizo.

Cuando era adolescente teníamos una gata embara-

zada. Toda la Cuaresma la vimos crecer más y más.

¡Lo interesante es que en la mañana de Pascua de ese

año, los niños nos dimos cuenta de que ella estaba del-

gada y tenia un liquido pegajoso! Ella tenía su camada

de gatitos. Su útero estaba vacío como la tumba de

Jesús. Pero fue extraño que no pudiéramos encontrar

los gatitos. Los buscamos por todas partes antes y

después de la Misa, pero no los encontramos ese día.

¡Fue más emocionante que una búsqueda de huevos de

Pascua! La sorprendente verdad de resurrección me

recuerda ese Domingo de Pascua. Sus amigos lo bus-

caron, y aunque no lo encontraron, comenzaron a

creer que ya no estaba muerto. Era como el dia de los

inocentes.

Hay más en la Resurrección que una tumba vacía y dia

de los inocentes. Compartiré más sobre la gata la

próxima semana.

The Seminary Tea Committee, together with

Most Reverend Alexander K. Sample and Most

Reverend Peter L. Smith, invite you to the 83rd

Annual Archbishop’s Seminary Tea on

Wednesday, April 25th from 3:00 to 6:00pm at

the Portland Golf Club. The Tea is a benefit for

the education of seminarians who are preparing

to serve in the Archdiocese of Portland in Ore-

gon. Along with several seminarians, special

guests will include Most Reverend John Vlazny,

Most Reverend Kenneth Steiner, Monsignor Jo-

seph Betschart of Mount Angel Seminary and

Right Reverend Jeremy Driscoll, O.S.B. of Mt.

Angel Abbey and Seminary. The $38 admission

fee can be purchased at the Tea or at

The Tea is a benefit for the education of semi-

narians who are preparing to serve in the Archdi-

ocese of Portland in Oregon.

The Archbishop’s Seminary Tea - A Portland Tradi-

tion for 83 Years!

The Seminary Tea Committee was founded in

1935 by a group of 22 Catholic women in the Archdiocese

of Portland with a mission to provide financial assistance

for seminarians preparing to serve in the Archdiocese of

Western Oregon. Since then, their signature fundraising

event, the Archbishop’s Seminary Tea, has continued its

tradition of bringing the community together in a warm

and gracious social setting to meet the Archbishop and

special guests from the Archdiocese and Mount Angel

Abbey and Seminary. Event venues over the years have

included a steamship, stately residences of Archbishops

and benefactors, parish halls and private clubs.

Today, the Seminary Tea Committee has 192

members from 31 parishes in the Portland and suburban

area, including 16 new members this year. In addition to

providing financial support, members also provide spiritu-

al support through prayer and personal encouragement to

seminarians as they complete their education. An annual

fall retreat and spring fellowship luncheon provide mean-

ingful opportunities for members to share faith and fellow-

ship with one another and with the seminarians and com-

munity at Mt. Angel Abbey and Seminary.

This year’s event, chaired by Marilyn Faherty of

Madeleine Parish, will be held on Wednesday, April 25th,

3:00 to 6:00pm at the Portland Golf Club. Along with

Archbishop Alexander K. Sample and Most Reverend Pe-

ter L. Smith, special guests will include Most Reverend

John Vlazny, Most Reverend Kenneth Steiner, Monsignor

Joseph Betschart, President-Rector of Mount Angel Semi-

nary and Right Reverend Jeremy Driscoll, O.S.B., Abbot

and Chancellor of Mt. Angel Abbey and Seminary. The

Tea also provides a wonderful opportunity to meet many

of the seminarians who have devoted themselves to pre-

paring for the priesthood and service in our community.

Complimentary refreshments and no-host bar will be

available. The $38 admission fee can be purchased at the

Tea or at www.seminarytea.org. Donations are tax de-

ductible and can be made conveniently and securely on

their website or at the Tea. Overflow parking and shuttle

service from Spirit of Grace Church, 7400 SW Scholls

Ferry Rd. All are welcome!
