‘Soup for you’ is an enterprise founded and run by a young Melbournian man with the creative help of family and friends. Set up on the streets of Melbourne’s CBD, he plies his wares to health conscious workers, proffering delicious, heart-warming and wholesome soup at a reasonable price from small van that sets up shop at various locales each week.

This venture intends to provide a great combination of value for money and great quality organic food that is freshly brewed every day. Furthermore, what isn’t consumed after the day’s sales is donated to the needy, in cooperation with The Food Act and The Wrongs & Other Acts Act 2002. On top of this, customers have the option to donate small amounts of change to support the process of food donation. Overall, ‘Soup for you’ positions itself as a very wholesome company that operates for the good of the community as well as the operators.

Engagement The level of community engagement and reception hinges

greatly on our ability to follow through with the steps explained in the communication strategy document.

The greatest insight I found was that generational evolution of advertising and media away from proposition and towards engagement.

• People don’t want to be told what to do or think anymore.

• People Want to be involved and given to opportunity to actively participate in a venture.

As a direct result of this ‘Soup for you’ has intentionally based its business plan around community involvement. This is particularly pertinent to ‘Soup for you’ as all semi charity organisations rely heavily on being able to engage the community that they are supporting.

Strategy example‘Help me – help you’: After  a  few months  of  operation with  hopefully  decent  growth  in  sales  and  online

interest  in  the company we will begin  to offer  training  for young people  looking for qualifications. We aim to become accredited as a food handling training school and in exchange for helping us prepare the days soup we will offer the volunteer the opportunity to achieve food handling certifications in the hope that it will help them  go  on  to  get  proper  employment.  Through  helping  members  in  the community  in  this  way  we  feel  sure  that  our  image  will  grow  and  mature; displaying us as being community focussed and devoted to giving back.

This venture will be organised over our prominent social media outlets, Facebook &

Twitter, where candidates will be redirected to our website to  learn more about the opportunity. We understand how difficult it can be to get your first job or a job after  a  long  period  of  unemployment  and  feel  that  this  will  develop  a  great symbiosis between ‘Soup for you’, customers and volunteers.
