DESIGN FEATURESDESIGN FEATURES
SWI’s range of Top Entry trunnion mounted ball valve design incorporates some of the most advanced features, including manymajor Owner & Operating Company specication preferences, whilst fully conforming to the design requirements of ISO14313 / API 6D & ASME B16.34 codes.
Trunnion mounted design provides reliable bi-directional sealing through spring and pressure assisted seats. The rigidlysupported xed ball via large bearings housed within the body and body cover has two independent spring assisted seat ringswhich are free to move along the valve axis providing bubble tight and bi-directional sealing capability. The seal is formed by theseat ring assembly being spring loaded & pressure energized against the ball as a result of the piston eect created by the uidpressure. At low pressures, the sealing is maintained by the force provided by the seat springs.
All these design features contribute towards the valves capability to provide the highest levels of performance and reliability, whilst ensuring repeatable shut o, positive sealing of all external leak paths and a high degree of safety for both plant andpersonnel.

High Integrity Top EntryTrunnion Mounted Ball Valves
DESIGN FEATURESDESIGN FEATURES
The trunnion mounted ball supported by the body with its oating seat rings allows easy and smooth operation even at highpressures. The dierential load, produced by line pressure acting on the ball is carried by the large body and cover trunnionbearings. These self lubricating bearings maintain low operating torque and maximizes service life.
High temperature valves utilize solid metalbearings specially treated to ensure anti-gallingand low friction characteristic.
TRUNNION MOUNTED CONSTRUCTION
SWI ball valve upstream and downstreampositive sealing system allows for installation inservices requiring double block and bleedfacility for bleeding of the cavity or checking ofthe sealing integrity in the open or closedposition.
When tted, bleed valves or combined anti-blow-out vent & drain facility may be openedto check seat integrity with the main valve ineither the fully open or closed position. Sincethere is no leak path from the pipeline to thebody cavity other than via the seats or seatseals, bleeding the body cavity will indicateany leakage.
Seat / seal integrity may therefore be checkedif needed PRIOR to aecting a pipeline shutdown.
DOUBLE BLOCK & BLEED
Two independent single piston eect self relieving oating seat ringsspecially designed to minimize operational torque, ensure bi-directionaltightness of the valve from zero dierential pressure to the valvesmaximum rated pressure.
Double O-ring and Anti-extrusion rings are tted as standard for class2500 valves, and are optional for lower pressure classes.
To retain adequate sealing in the event of re damage to the elastomericprimary seals, each is backed up by Graphite. In the case of Soft Seatedvalves, destruction of the soft insert material will lead to the seat springenergizing the metal seat ring to form a metal to metal seal against theball.
SELF RELIEVING FLOATING SEAT RINGS
In the event of excessive pressure build-up in the body cavity (whilst the valve is fully open or closed) due to rapid thermal expansionof the trapped uid, the excess will be relieved to the pipeline as the seat spring is overcome on the lowest dierential pressure side.
POSITIVE CAVITY RELIEF
Standard Seat Design
The high pressure side seal is formed by the seat ring assembly being pressure energized against the ball as a result of the springloaded seat combined with the single piston action created by the line pressure.
Live loading of the seat rings by springs assures sealing capability at low pressures.
The stem is of one piece bottom entry shouldered directlyto the body cover as standard. No portion of the stemrelies on any other intermediate bolted part for its nalpositioning or anti-blow-out feature whilst the weakestpoint of the stem is maintained outside of the pressureboundary.
Precision machining of the stem which is rigidly supported between bearings, combined with hardness control between metallic parts and double o-rings backed up by a tertiary graphite seal, ensures reliable operation with the highest levels of sealing integrity.
SWI’s standard sealing system which complies with therequirements of ISO 15848-1 Class AH and API 622features a removable stem cartridge which houses theelastomeric primary seals.
This high integrity stem sealing system which is technicallyemission free can be replaced without the need to removethe stem from the valve or remove the valve from the pipeline provided the cavity is vented.
Other designs incorporating PTFE / Inconel Lip Seals, high integrity mechanically energized graphite or acombination of both, ensures sealing designs suitablefor services from -200°C to + 538°C (-328°F to +1000°F),including low fugitive emission control for VOC, Hazardousand Lethal service applications.

Wherever valves are used on high pressure gas applications, there is a possibility of gas being absorbed into the molecular structureof elastomeric o-rings. If the valve is then subject to sudden decompression, the gas will expand rapidly and may damage the o-ring.
To eliminate this possibility, SWI can oer special ED resistant o-ring seals (Type Test Certied by Independent Test Laboratory)which have been extensively tested in accordance with NORSOK specication M-710 and / or TOTAL specication GS PVV 142.These specialist seals are also available tested in accordance with NACE TM0297 & TM0187 on request.

Metalized Carbon is a proprietary product for applications where traditional SOFT seating materialscannot be utilized. This material has exceptional capabilities and is suitable for use in a variety of SEVERESERVICE applications ranging from high temperatures to cryogenic temperatures, harsh caustics and strongacids, dry service, whilst providing one of the lowest operational torques (coecient of friction 0.1~0.2) dueto its self-lubricating & non-galling characteristics. Being a solid and homogeneous material throughout;there are no coatings, plating or surface treatments needed.
Metalized Carbon Insert
The complete failure of a valve in service is often due to the deterioration of its sealing element or one of theoperating parts impairing its operation. Solid metal seats should be adopted for hostile conditions, CRITICALand SEVERE applications, particularly when the service is dirty, abrasive, highly corrosive, at elevatedtemperature or a combination of all.
SWI oer a range of solid metal seating with various surface treatments such as NITRIDING or hard facingby thermal-spraying of STELLITE or TUNGSTEN CARBIDE or HARD NICKEL ALLOY to suit almost anyapplication or base material. Stellite & Nickel Alloy coating can additionally be fully fused to the basemetal to form a metallurgical bond providing the highest integrity sealing surface, virtually porous freewith hardness up to 60 ~ 65 Hrc, dependant on alloy.
Precision lapping of ball & seat results in superior interfacing for tight shut-o.

TRUE FULL IN-LINE MAINTENANCE
SWI Top Entry ball valve are true in-line maintainableregardless of seating arrangement.
The high integrity stem sealing system may be replacedwithout the need for removal of the bolted cover orwhilst on stream with the valve in the fully open orclosed position and vent valve open.
The bolted Top Entry construction allows easy accessto the valve internals for on-site inspection or replace-ment of parts.
Removal of the bolted cover from the valve bodyprovides full access to all the internal parts whichcan be removed with special maintenance tools, designed by SWI.
Extended bonnet designs are of the bolted fully enclosedvapour space type with an internally assembled anti-blow-out stem design whereby all stem seals are located at thetop of the bonnet away from the cold zone.
The one-piece bonnet design provides for a pressurizedcolumn in which the cold liquid phase is changed, by heattransfer with the environment, to the gaseous phase forminga gas gap under the primary stem seals which protects thevalve from malfunctioning due to freezing.
SWI oer two extension lengths for each size of valve inaccordance with internationally recognized practices such as Shell GSI MESC, BS6364 and MSS SP-134.- Short Bonnet for temperatures between -30°C ~ -100°C- Long Bonnet for temperatures below -101°C

LIQUID + GASEOUSMEDIA WITHENTRAINED PARTICLES/ SOLIDS(high operating cycles)
Ideal for severe wear protectionfrom multiple modes of abrasion, erosion, corrosion or anycombination of the three.
The complete failure of a valve in service is often due to the deterioration of its sealing element or one of the operating partsimpairing its operation.
Valves in dirty or severe service are often subjected to one or a combination of the following conditions, which are destructiveforces especially when acting simultaneously, accelerating its eventual failure. High temperature Corrosion Erosion Abrasion Fretting Cavitation Galling
Increasingly stringent demands on equipment require the continual development of materials resistant to such hostile conditions.
are adequate. In situations where operations can be limited by surface-related wear problems, the use of an appropriate coatingsystem my present the only real solution.
Advances in protective coatings and application methods allow SWI to protect these surfaces from accelerated destructionwith retained ultimate wear-resistance.

OPTIONS & VARIATIONSOPTIONS & VARIATIONS
SWI’s range of valves may be manually operated by lever or gearbox dependingon torque requirements, and are built to easily accept pneumatic, hydraulicor electric actuators.
Valve design minimizes operational torque, which normally aects actuatorsizing, allowing for economical automation packages. Complete valve / actuatorassemblies can be provided fully tested and certied according to customer requirements as a single package, supplied directly from SWI.
Over many years, SWI has built up a reputation for providing high qualityvalves supported by factory eld experts. To maintain and extend our reputation,we have aligned ourselves with highly accredited and respected AutomationManufacturers in the industry. This combined with fully equipped valve automation assembly & test and our extensiveknowledge of the valves and actuator requirements, SWI can oer competitiveprices, best service and proven products.
For applications where solid particles may be present in the uid or involve very high pressure and / or elevated temperaturebeyond the capability of soft seats, SWI can provide valves with metal to metal seating. SWI achieves the metal to metal seatingthrough the use of various advanced hard facing technologies incorporating Tungsten Carbide coatings, Stellite, Hard Nickel Alloyor alternative processes considering the intended application.
Please consult with our technical department for specic requirements.
ACTUATION & OPERATION METHODS
Valves are available conforming to the requirements of the NACE specication MR 01-75 / ISO 15156 / MR 01-03 for use on applicationswhere the presence of wet H2S generates a risk of stress corrosion cracking. NACE compliance certicates are available on request.
SOUR SERVICE
SWI fully automated robotic welding oers a cost eective solutioncompared to solid corrosion resistant alloys.
Where highly corrosive or erosive services are involved, the life expectancyof a valve can be considerably extended by the application local weldoverlay or full internal cladding to valve internal surfaces.
WELD OVERLAY TECHNOLOGY
