HigH Point University offers many exciting

opportunities for students to study in the U.s. and abroad.

through the short-term global experience programs, students

spend two to four weeks traveling while completing classes

that satisfy general education, major, or elective requirements.

HPU faculty members accompany each group and teach the

courses. these opportunities are available to students as early

as their freshman year. Course offerings and destinations vary

each year to meet a wide array of student interests.

Let me guess: May 2014 is probably the last thing on your mind! But i must admit, it’s all i can seem to think about these days!

Why? Well, i work in the office of study Abroad where i plan global experience programs that will change your perspective and spur you on to a lifetime of exploration and adventure. in 2013, over 160 students traveled to over nine countries on 10 diverse and interactive programs. now’s your chance to join the growing number of HPU students who are discovering the satisfaction and fulfillment that an experience abroad is sure to yield.

This course will investigate three legendary cities of Europe which best exemplify the basic principles and elements of design fundamentals: Venice, Florence and Rome. Experience buildings and sites that exhibit classical design elements, and spend time sketching and photographing! Don’t miss day trips to Pompeii and Hadrian’s Villa. This course complements both the interior design and home furnishings curricula.

Immerse yourself in the Chinese language as you learn about China’s long history and experience first-hand the region’s rich art, architecture, and culture. A hike to the top of the Great Wall is optional — but we dare you to do it!

Walk in the footsteps of one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time as you travel through Prague, Vienna, and Salzburg! Explore the Prague Castle, enjoy the ‘Sound of Music’ tour, and take in an opera at the famed Vienna State Opera as you examine the life and work of Mozart and his impact on today’s arts and society. Not just your regular field trip! Travel in style on our only 2014 four-country tour as you observe and analyze human behavior as it relates to cultural context. What makes an Italian? A Dutchman? A Swiss? While you’re there, you’ll ride through the canals of Amsterdam, visit Anne Frank’s house, visit the Gruyeres cheese factory, and so much more. Travel for three weeks and gain a fresh perspective on culture and human behavior!

Ever used a machete? Visited a stratovolcano? Hiked the rainforest? You’ll uncover and experience Ecuador’s biodiversity and observe its unique endangered species as you visit Quito, explore the Amazon, and cruise through the Galapagos Islands. Tour the Charles Darwin Research Station, visit the Equatorial Monument, and give a day of service at a local non-profit organization. This dynamic Ecuadorian experience will leave you with vivid memories that you won’t soon forget.

Your adventure begins with a road trip to the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia, home to the Blackfriar’s Playhouse, a re-creation of the first indoor theater in the English-speaking world. Then, travel to London and Stratford-upon-Avon to see at least five play performances in some of the most famous theaters in the world, including the Royal Shakespeare Company Theater and Shakespeare’s Globe Theater. Along the way, enjoy a workshop at the Globe, tour castles, see the sites in London, and visit Shakespeare’s birthplace!

Observe and partake in the art of Flamenco while immersing yourself in Spanish culture! You’ll take Flamenco lessons from an expert local instructor at the Flamenco Dance Museum in Seville and experience Flamenco performances and other related activities in Seville, Granada, Madrid, Cordóba, and Cadiz. Visit museums and cathedrals, and walk along Spanish beaches in this 18-day excursion to Spain. (Knowledge of Spanish and prior dance experience are welcome, but not required.)

Go behind closed doors in the nation’s capital where many of America’s most important political decisions are made! During the Spring semester, you’ll explore case studies and eyewitness accounts of politics and policymaking. Then, spend two weeks in May in Washington, D.C., interacting with elected officials and other powerbrokers while exploring many of the nation’s most noteworthy political landmarks and centers of power. Enjoy networking opportunities most Political Science majors can only dream of.
