TRANSCRIPT
Objectives
• To provide an understanding of the following– Specifications– Use– Maintenance – Safety
Specifications
• Lift bags are constructed of neoprene with three layers of Kevlar
• Operating pressure: 118 psi
• Factory tested at 200 psi
• Field tested at 30 psi without a load
• Melting point: 220ºF
Model Size (Inche

KPI-12 12 X 12 10.8 8.2 700
KPI-17 15 X 21 15 9 700
KPI-22 20 X 20 20.2 11 700
KPI-32 24 X 24 29.9 13 600
Load Chart
• Maximum ratings are achieved at a 1 inch lift– Lift is based on square inches of contact
• As the lift increases in height, the capacity of the lift bag will decrease– Calculations are done by multiplying the square
inches of surface contact by 118 psi
Pressure Regulator
• Piston type regulator• Up to 6000 psi
incoming pressure
• Safety valve set• 135 or 150
• Depending on model
Dual Deadman Controller
• Maximum operating pressure• 118 psi
• Safety valve setting• 118 psi
• Single inlet and dual outlets
• Quick connect fittings• With locking rings
Supply Hose
• 16’ in length• 3/8” diameter• Maximum working pressure of
250 or 300 psi• Depending on model
• Burst pressure at 1000 psi• Equipped with threaded lock
rings• Black hose
• From regulator to dual deadman control valve
• Color hose• From dual deadman control
valve to lifting bag
Inline Relief Valve
• Allows the lifting bag to remain inflated under a load after deadman control valve is disconnected
• Relieves excess pressure from the lifting bag• Above 135 psi
• Excessive pressure can be caused by load shifts or temperature changes
• Connect valve directly to deadman control valve• Preferred method
• Can connect valve directly to air bag• Use extreme caution
Operating ProcedurePressure Regulator
• Attach to an SCBA cylinder
• Adjust outlet pressure• Turn adjusting knob to
set at 135 psi
Operating ProceduresDual Deadman Controller
• Attach black hose from pressure regulator• Complete with locking ring
• Attach color hose(s) to outlet(s)• Complete with locking ring
• Dual safety deadman valves• Up is green• Down is red
Maintenance• Check overall condition of the regulator and
dual deadman control valve• Wash with mild soap and water• Thoroughly inspect lifting bag after every use• Check lifting bag for leaks
• Fill to 30 psi• Coat bag with soapy water and inspect for leaks
• Check hoses for leaks, cuts, cracks, or holes• Ensure all couplings are in good working
condition
Safety
• Wear appropriate PPE– Minimum of helmet, gloves, and eye protection
• Maintain good communication between crew members involved
• Lift an inch, crib an inch• Avoid hot spots and sharp edges
• Protect bag when temp. is more than 150 degrees• Use plywood if lifting a small diameter object
• Helps distribute the weight• Do not inflate bag more than 30 psi without a load• Try to avoid stacking lifting bags
• Only stack a maximum of 2 lifting bags, with the smaller bag on top
