Dear Readers,

The year 2015 started with full order books and it is foreseeable that we can conclude our financial year with a positive outlook for the future

The construction works for the new repair facilities, adjoining the assembly hall, will be completed soon so that we will be able to serve our customers in the coming year under optimized conditions

At the ACHEMA 2015 – the leading exhibition of the chemical industry – we set the focus on the process pumps and internal vessel cleaning, including products for explosion proof areas Some of our articles herein will deal with these topics

Also in the future we will do our utmost to provide our customers with high performance and top quality pumps as well as high pressure cleaning units and tools for a safe and efficient application

After Mr Amon’s retirement, a new managing director was appointed thus ensuring further positive development of the company

We thank you for your confidence and good cooperation and hope that this edition of IMPRESSION will be of interest to you

Whenever a new oil and gas field is explored, the exca-vated mixture of oil, water and gas has to be separated first The thus “recovered” produced water plays an im-portant role in the secondary recovery of crude oil Over the years the reservoir pressure decreases By means of water injection through so-called well injection ports, the field can be exploited up to a third Thicker oil de-posits can be removed from the reservoir rock by means of hot water, water solution or other diluting agents to obtain higher yields Water is removed from natural gas via separators or drying systems and pumped back to the reservoir via well injection ports URACA’s quintuplex pump P5-70 has taken up this job for reinjectionSuch projects are subject to strict environmental reg-ulations and comprehensive technical specifications in order to grant safe and economical operation of the injection plant Produced water contains harmful sub-stances, eg lots of chlorides Especially the plunger sealing deserves closer attention in order to prevent the process medium from escaping into the atmos-phere The high pressure sealing system or primary packing seals against a pressure difference between discharge and suction side A continuously or intermittent oper-ating flushing system prevents crystallization of salts

in and outside the packing area thus increasing the life-time of the packing significantly Flushing intervals and periods can be adapted to process water conditions at site The low pressure sealing or secondary packing prevents a pressure difference between suction side and atmos-phere Maintenance-free pulsation dampeners on suc-tion and discharge side ensure that the residual pul-sations are in strict compliance even with the API 674 limits The pulsation dampening is based on the re-flection principle and takes full effect if suction or dis-charge pressure changesDue to the steadily increasing water content, it is more economic to equip the injection pumps with frequency-controlled drives, thus allowing continuous operation of the pump at speeds that are far below the design point Life times are increased and maintenance and/or spare part costs minimized compared to an ON/OFF pump operationThe high pressure pump is installed in a noise insulated container so that 70 dB (A) sound pressure level is not exceeded Leakages are collected and sensors stop the machine in case of failuresThe requirements and customer specifications can be fulfilled without deviations The term “tailor-made product” is not only a slogan, but daily routine

The spring loaded overflow valves from the FÜV series keep the operating pres-sure constant, even if individual consu-mers are opened or closed Wear and tear is very low and valves have a wide adjus-table pressure range The manual bypass function is also suitable for an unloaded pump start

— Nominal width 5 – 13 mm — Pressure range 160 – 1000 bar — Suitable for demineralized water and silicone-free applications

— Available versions: ATEX compliant or for salt water applications

Hydraulic energy for the production of seamless steel tubesSeamless steel tubes were invented by Mannesmann about 100 years ago. Many hot extrusion presses are driven by URACA pumps worldwide.

pulsation dampener The implementation of the pump to the existing piping system and the parallel operation with the already existing quintuplex pumps was pos-sible without problems This pump design is also con-vincing due to energy efficiency Hot extrusion presses manufacture stainless steel tubes in various dimen-sions Cycle times and hydraulic energy requirements may vary By means of a suction valve release the pump is switched to “pressureless operation” after reaching the process required discharge pressure The power consumption during the idling phase is approximately 2 % based on the 875 kW shaft power and therefore the energy saving is three to four times better compared to by-pass circulation

The PUSV5/3000 consists of two 2/2-way valves installed in one valve casing Both valves can be switched synchro-nously or individually The valve can take the function of a 3/2 way valve with positive and negative overlap It is available in two versions, either airless open or airless closed The valves are equipped as standard with electric position monitoring

Additional advantages: — reliable switching up to 3000 bar — suitable for demineralized water — silicone-free version

FÜV-series compact and multifunctional

Not only process pumps are often operat-ed in explosive atmospheres, also clean-ing units are more and more applied in hazardous zones, especially in case of in-ternal cleaning of vessels, tanks, reactors etcURACA products are designed and built subject to the conformity assessment procedure in accordance with ATEX Direc-tive 94/9/EC As of April 2016 the new di-rective 2014/34/EC will apply

URACA pumps and units are available for the use in potentially explosive atmos-pheres in all performance classes Also devices and tools for the internal vessel cleaning eg spray guns, nozzle inserts and valves are ATEX conform Moreover, the EC-type examination certificate for the TWK series is intended for use in zone 0 and 20

Tube manufacturers are convinced of pump type P5-80 and whenever a pump station is modernized, URACA scores with the quintuplex pump which may replac-es the former triplex plunger pump The P5-80 with a crankshaft power of 875 kW (1175 HP) supplies hydrau-lic energy for hot extrusion presses via large accumula-tors and the press has a force of 40 MN or 4000 tons The pump conception was convincing due to reliabil-ity and long-lasting operation at tube manufacturers’ plants Despite its high performance, the quintuplex pump has a small footprint thus facilitating easy in-stallation into the existing pump hall Compared to a triplex plunger pump, the residual pulsation has been minimized by means of a small and maintenance-free

Gas, vapor, mist or dust may generate explosive atmospheres in combination with oxygen under certain conditions. This risk regularly occurs during processes in the chemical and petrochemical industry.

New high pressure spray lance SL 3000

Reactors, autoclaves, agitator vessels and tanks have to be freed from the most varied residues and incrustations Cramped space, vessel opening and heating, cooling or built-in components play an important role in the selec-tion of a suitable cleaning system Moreover the special properties of the deposits and the atmosphere within the reactor are to be considered Normally only cold wa-ter is used However for oily products, solvents and oils may also be used URACA offers individual solutions for customer-specific tasks ranging from manual systems to comprehensive modular cleaning systems which consist of a TWK tank cleaning head, a semi or fully automated cleaning device as well as the necessary pressure genera-tor, ie the high pressure pump unit

Cleanliness up to the remotest corner

The question of an optimal cleaning comes up, whenever vessels of different sizes, geometries and various structural conditions as well as built-in components require individual solutions.

The cleaning device is adapted according to the vessel geometry, the degree of automation and the conditions at site Long-standing experience and numerous field-tes-ted parameters allow precise determination of the tech-nical data such as pressure, flow rate, temperature, but also explosion protection, gas or pressure tightness or any other feature requirements The TWK series has an EC-type examination certificate and the nozzle heads are suitable for use in zone 0 and 20 The leaflet “Solutions for internal vessel cleaning” and the 3D video give you an idea of the product portfolio and show the benefits

A new spray lance SL 3000 has been developed to cope with pressures of up to 3000 bar The material of this lance differs from the SL 2800 lance Through improved

manufacturing processes and higher strength values, the new lance provides for longevity thus completing URACA’s spray and lance product range in a perfect way It weighs the same as SL 2800, however the handling is easier since trigger and retention forces could be signifi-cantly reduced

The video in 3D explains and visually demonstrates to our customers and partners how to clean the inside of con-

tainers and vessels in the most effective way It describes the function and effect of the high pressure water jet and shows the variety of lan-ces and hose reel devices plus their degree of automation The movie provides a view into the container during the cleaning process The vi-deo can be found on YouTube as well as on our website
