The situa on with COVID-19 has put the spotlight on how vital a high speed broadband connec on will be moving forward. It also has people talking about how broadband is deployed to homes, businesses, schools, hospitals and other facili es. Because of TCT’s investment in our network, customers in our cer fi cated service area have access to high speed fi ber, but our network does not just connect our subscribers, it also connects many wireless towers in the area.

When the topic of wireless broadband comes up many people’s fi rst thought likely isn’t about fi ber networks running under the ground. What many do not realize is that only a por on of a wireless connec on occurs between the wireless device, like a mobile phone or a router, and the cell tower. The connec on between a wireless device and the cell tower travels over “spectrum”. The cell tower itself is connected by a wireline network. Most cell towers are connected by fi ber networks built and maintained by small independent telecoms, like TCT.

A lot of the focus for future deployment of high speed broadband has been on 5G. The 5G model is based on small cells that need connec ons to a wired high capacity network, that is why 5G is expected work well in metropolitan areas where customers live close to each other. In rural areas 5G mobile networks will also allow for higher speeds and more data, but they will never match the speeds or bandwidth a fi ber connec on off ers rather, fi ber is actually a necessary element of 5G. TCT con nues to invest in our network, allowing our subscribers to be prepared for the technology needs of today and tomorrow!

Most of the weather websites have smartphone apps. Here are some to consider:

If you do a Google search for weather on your phone, you’ll get the informa on presented in an app-like format, with an op on to pin it to your home screen to use again. Scroll down for addi onal details like hour-by-hour temperature, precip a on, and wind. Scroll right to get the forecast for the next 10 days.

Live alerts and weather forecasts help you plan your day. In addi on to a regular weather forecast, you’ll get storm alerts, updates, and the “RealFeed” temperature to warn you about those beau ful and sunny – but c-c-cold – days. Check the weather up to 15 days in advance for anywhere in the world.

A rac ve graphics make this weather app fun to look at, and you can choose widgets in three diff erent sizes as well as your own layout and colors. In addi on to its friendly appearance, the app will keep you informed about the weather and other related informa on, such as the moon phase and sun status.

This whimsical weather app off ers standard weather forecasts along with accompanying quips that explain, in real terms, how nasty it is outside. Here’s an example: “Rain is the only way today could get any worse. Oh wait.” This app won a 2018 People’s Choice Webby Award in the category of Mobile Sites & Apps–Services & U li es.

“The Language of Quilts – a Quilt Show” will be held Sunday, May 24, 12:30-4:30pm at the Dunlap Learning Academy, 6th and Ohio, Dunlap. In addi on to the vintage quilt show, Church Ladies, a harmony-based acous c trio from the greater Manha an area will perform. They perform secular and non-secular music, including bluegrass, country, rock and Motown. Anyone wan ng to display a quilt must pre-register it by May 15. THREE LOCATIONS TO MEET YOUR NEEDS!

Your home may be beautiful. But is it also smart? Thanks to Home Technology Integration, your home can become a Smart Home and enable you to remotely manage a variety of systems using an internet connection. The technology can be divided into two basic functions: systems control and monitoring:

Via a smartphone or tablet, it’s now possible to control a long list of things in a Smart Home without you having to be there. They include:

Do you worry about your home when you’re away for long vacations or business trips? With a Smart Home, you can use your internet connection to monitor for things like temperature, fi re, motion or fl ooding. Sensors detecting any of these events can email you an alert.

For example, let’s say the sump pump quits working and your basement is fi lling up with water. You’ll receive an email alerting you of the emergency so you can call the plumber immediately. When the plumber arrives at your locked front door, a motion detector will tell you someone is at the door. A snapshot video camera will send you a picture confi rming it’s the plumber and you can then unlock the door — all without having to be there!

Other Smart Home possibilities include streaming video surveillance to keep an eye on family members, pets, (983-4086) or a backyard pool. For sick or elderly family members, Personal Alert Systems are also available to quickly contact emergency personnel.
