TERMS AND CONDITIONS 22

Welcome to North Hertfordshire College (NHC). We’re really excited that you’re thinking about how a Higher Education (HE) course at NHC can help you realise your potential. We think there are four great reasons for you to choose to study at NHC:

■ Everything we do is about helping you to realise your potential: we know that you don’t just want a certificate when you leave NHC; you want to be ready to take the next step in your career.

■ We work with local businesses to bring our HE programmes to life: we know that working with real businesses, and experiencing real business situations, makes a huge difference to your development – and your future employment prospects.

■ We’ll offer you a really interesting, relevant programme! We know that your programme has to be fun, relevant and interesting. All of our tutors are experts in the occupational areas they teach, and we work really hard to make sure every session is a great one.

■ We’ll support you as you look to progress to higher levels and into work: we know that NHC is a stepping stone. We’ll help you think about, and prepare for, what you want to do next throughout your time with us.

We hope this booklet gives you a flavour of the ways in which we can help you get where you want to be in life. You can find lots more information about our Higher Education (HE) programme offer on the NHC website. You can also call, email and follow us on social media to find out what we’re all about.

We really hope you choose to study at NHC and look forward to meeting you on campus.

WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL

THE NHC EXPERIENCE

We have over 30 years’ experience delivering HE programmes. In our most recent QAA inspection report in February 2014, we met the QAA expectations in all four areas of judgements. Beyond your formal programme we are committed to providing you with a rich, varied experience whilst you’re a studying with us.

SPORT AND WELLBEINGWe have some great sports facilities at the college, particularly at the Hitchin Campus where we have a 3G sports pitch, sports hall and gym. There are football, netball and basketball clubs, as well as non-competitive gym sessions and exercise classes like Zumba, canoeing, boxing and street dance.

If you don’t see a club that you’d like to join you can always set one up! Our Student Services team are here to help you develop your ideas, work with fellow students and get new things going.

The College is an active member of the University of Hertfordshire Higher Education Consortium. As a HE student, you will also be entitled to all the e-resources and physical resources both at the College and University, as well as the University of Hertfordshire’s state-of-the-art sports village complex at the De Havilland campus in Hatfield.

SOCIAL STUFFThere are loads of social activities that you can get involved in throughout the year. Social events like the annual trip to Thorpe Park, visits to Christmas markets and the summer ball are all great way for you to meet students from different parts of the College and make new friends.

Trips and visits may also be organised by individual course areas throughout the year. For instance, each year our business students go on a study trip abroad, which has in the past proved to be very successful in terms of learning and student experience. Amongst the cities visited, one can list Beijing, New York, Prague, Paris and Budapest.

As a HE student, you can also engage in all the social activities on offer at the University of Hertfordshire.

As a HE student, as well as having a voice at the College Student Union, you will also have the opportunity to engage in events arranged by the University of Hertfordshire Student Union in Hatfield.

COUNSELLINGAll NHC students can access our experienced team of counsellors throughout the year. They will listen confidentially to any difficulties you may be experiencing and help you develop plans to cope and deal with whatever difficulties you might encounter whilst at NHC.
