ALETTERFROMPRINCIPALDREWDear Highland Terrace Families, It was wonderful to see so many families and staff come together for the Pancake Breakfast this weekend. Seeing our community together makes be grateful to be a Highland Terrace Orca. Thank you Andre Lucero and all volunteers for creating a memorable morning of community connections and delicious food. We have more opportunities this week to come together and learn about the different cultures and backgrounds within our community. At both, the evening Festival of Cultures and assembly on Friday, we are going to get to see students, families and staff from our school share about their cultures. I am excited to watch, listen, and learn. Family Input for Class Placement (by April 12): We are beginning to think ahead to next year and want to provide families an opportunity to share important information about your child/children to help us with our class placement decisions. As we create classes, we are intentional in our efforts to create balanced classrooms. We have a strong teaching staff who care about student learning and social growth. We recognize that all students have different learning styles, needs, and respond in a variety of ways to changing environments. We know that your child’s classroom assignment is important to you. In creating balanced classes, we carefully consider several factors:
• Staff & parent input • Academic and social emotional needs of students • Peer relationships in our or out of school (positive and negative) that may impact your child.
It’s important for our staff to have your input as we create balance classrooms for next year. If you would like to share input with our team, please fill out the survey at this link 2019 Family Input for Class Placement by April 12th. Please fill out a separate form for each child.
• Completion of this form is optional and all students are given careful consideration even if no parent input.
• We do not accept specific teacher requests or guarantee placement in a specific classroom.• Information is not confidential and will be shared with the staff.• Staff and grade level configurations will not be finalized until the end of August/the day or two
before school starts. We will use email communication again this year to inform families of class placement.
Informal Principal Conversations: This year, I am hosting a series of informal conversations for families. The purpose of these conversations is to provide you an opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and discuss together topics of importance. It also helps me to listen and learn from you. The next opportunity is listed below. I look forward to seeing you.
Month Date/Time Location
March Tuesday, March 19 from 5:30-6:15 pm Learning Lab
If you have any questions, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher, to a member of the office staff, or to me. Sincerely,
Lara Drew Interim Principal | Highland Terrace [email protected]
