Health Care
Nethrajyothi: 16 eye camps were organized through Nethra Jyothi wherein 1604
patients were tested and free cataract surgeries were performed on 73 eligible
beneficiaries. Further, Diabetic retinopathy screening was organized for 38 diabetic
patients at Kala Hospital Visakhapatnam.
DESIRE Society is an NGO which is actively involved in providing a home like
environment via care home in Gajuwaka with 33 HIV/AIDS infected/affected children.
The Society takes care of these children (one or both parents died with HIV) by
providing their everyday medication, nutritive food and education. With a view to
support the noble cause, a washing machine was provided to them as a CSR initiative
for the benefit of the children at the above home. The same was handed over to the
society by Hon’ble MLA ,Smt. Prem Lata Singh. Fruits & Biscuits were also distributed
to the children of the home during the occasion

Education
Chethana –Adult literacy programme, for empowering the adults who were deprived
of the access of a normal schooling, is under progress for 500 beneficiaries at 20 centres
located in surroundings villages of Plant & five tribal villages of Visakhapatnam
District. A 2 day orientation programme for the teachers of all the centres was also
organized during the month.
Vivekananda Vidyarthi Nilayam: The construction of hostel building for students
belonging to ‘Girijan’ community at Yendada, Visakhapatnam through Andhra Vanvasi
Kalyan Ashram is under progress. This project is intended to address the constraints
faced by tribal students who are pursuing higher education at Visakhapatnam City.

Skill Development
Saksham: Vocational training in various trades viz. Mobile repairing, Arya works, solar
system repair & maintenance, LMV driving, Cutting & tailoring, Beautician Course has
been taken up in 10 centres for 300 beneficiaries belonging to the RH colonies,
surrounding villages and tribal areas. Classes for LMV Driving, Beautician Course and
Arya Works have been completed. Training is in progress for 160 beneficiaries in
Mobile repairing, solar equipment repair & maintenance and Cutting & tailoring
courses.
Peripheral Development
Roof sheeting work for Hud-hud cyclone affected houses in slum areas of Greater
Visakha Municipal Corporation has been taken up through the funds provided by
NMDC. The above work is under progress in GVMC wards.
Development works viz. laying of roads, drains etc. has been taken up for the
comprehensive development of Chepulapada Village, Visakhapatnam. Project for construction of Compound wall & Approach Road to the Community hall
taken up at Madharam is in progress.
Sanitation
CSR @ RINL April’17
The project for providing RO water plant at Islampeta and Madinabagh through GVMC
has been taken up. The installation of the plant is completed at Islampeta. The
construction of the room for housing the RO plant is in progress at Madinabagh.
Swachh Bharat activities were carried out in various Departments of VSP during the
Month. Daily Reports on “Swachh Bharat” Campaign received from plant areas are
compiled and sent to Ministry of Steel (MOS)

Safai Pakhwada was organized in CO&CCP and RMHP Departments during first
fortnight and in Blast Furnace Department during the second fortnight of April 2017
respectively. The Cleanliness drives were conducted with great enthusiasm and
witnessed wide participation of the employees. CMD, Director (Operations), ED
(Works) I/c. and other senior executives of respective departments participated in the
activities to motivate the employees.

Cashless Transaction Awareness
In line with the Government decision to promote digital payments and cashless
transactions in the country to bring transparency and productivity in the system and
with a view to achieve less-cash society in the Ukkunagaram Township, POS machines
were distributed to vendors in the township through Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel
Shri. Chaudhary Birender Singh in a function organized at MP hall, Ukkunagaram.

8 (Eight) Cashless transaction awareness sessions have been conducted at CSR project
venues of Adult literacy programme, Vocational training programme, eye camps, Roof
sheeting works etc. during April 2017 and covered 175 beneficiaries.
In connection with the centenary celebrations of ‘Champaran Movement’ the
following programmes were organized in the peripheral villages involving the
beneficiaries of CSR programmes Walkathon was organized in Islampeta and Durga Nagar villages
Awareness sessions on ‘Digi Dhan’ and ‘Usage of Steel for Village Development’ were
also organized for the beneficiaries & villagers during the campaign.
