2015 is the milestone year for Jasubhai Media as CHEMTECH World Expo, the flagship series of events,

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has confirmed supporting the regional shows of CHEMTECH’s flagship event.

CHEMTECH Gujarat Expo 2016, the first edition of trade show in Gujarat is getting a strong, positive response from chemical processing and allied sectors from Indian as well as international companies. Gujarat ’s chemical industry grew 7 folds during the period 2001-2012 with record production from ` 65,000 crore to ` 4,50,000 crore in 2012 across chemical industries, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, rubber and plastics; and witnessed increase in investment from ` 36,000 crore to ` 150,000 crore during the same period. The market offers significant opportunity for the chemical processing and allied services sectors. Bookings are on for CHEMTECH Gujarat Expo 2016 which is scheduled from February 10-12, 2016, in University Grounds, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

Mr Mehta graduated in Chemical Engineering from BITS, Pilani in the year 1977. He joined Hindustan

Petroleum Corporation Ltd in 1981 and has an experience of over 30 years in the Oil Sector. He worked with various departments such as Operations, Technical, Corporate Planning and International Trade. He has been one of the initial team members responsible for development and strategy planning for International Trade and Supplies of crude oil for the HPCL Refineries. He has also worked as General Manager - Operations and General Manager – Technical, Mumbai Refinery. Mr Mehta has also held the position of Executive Director heading the Mumbai Refinery of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation during which major revamps and major projects were implemented. Currently, he is holding the position of Executive Director in Corporate Office of HPCL and is involved in selection of technology for its refineries major projects.

Mr A B Pandya, Chairman, Central Water Commission is a graduate in Civil Engineering from Saurashtra

University and M. Tech. in Structural Engineering from IIT, Delhi. Mr Pandya joined the Central Water Engineering Service in CWC in October, 1977 as the Assistant Director and has held various positions in the Department and other organizations under the Ministry of Water Resources like WAPCOS, NWDA and NPCC.

In his long distinguished service encompassing all aspects of water resources sector, Mr Pandya has gained all round experience in water resources sector involving resource assessment, project planning, design, execution, operation and safety assurance, funds management, commercial consultancy management etc.

Dr Anil Kakodkar (born on 11th November, 1943) joined the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre

(BARC) in 1964, following the one year post graduate Training with top rank in Nuclear Science and Technology in the then Atomic Energy Establishment. He became the Director of BARC in the year 1996 and was the Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy, during the years 2000 -2009. He was DAE Homi Bhabha Chair Professor at BARC during Jan. 2010-Jan. 2015. Currently he is holding INAE Satish Dhawan Chair of Engineering Eminence at BARC. Dr Kakodkar devotes his time primarily on issues related to energy, education and societal development. Mr S K Dhar Gupta, a rank-holder in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of

Technology, Jamshedpur, carries with him over 3 decades of professional experience in Refinery Operations & Management in India’s foremost Fortune Global Oil Company – Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Mr Arun Gupta, CMD, SCI chaired the first brain storming session to discuss some of the topical issues that have been ailing the

growth of the shipping industry in the country. The Central Advisory Board members for the SMP World Expo 2016 shared the ideas regarding the issues that need to be addressed to get a competitive edge in the global shipping industry. The experts shared their thoughts on the growth of ship building sector, developing end mile connectivity for the ports, opportunities for investments and funding of projects for the industry. The board members were of the opinion to invite speakers from the organisations who have braved through the turbulent times and driven the growth of their organizations. Over 30 dignitaries attended the brainstorming session in the SCI office which included Cmde. M Jitendran, Chief Consultant, IRS, Mr Rajeev Nayyar, Director & CEO, Essar Oilfield Services India Limited, Mr S M Rai, Director (Technical), Indian National Shipowners' Association, Mr S S Kulkarni, Secretary General, Indian Private Ports & Terminals Association (IPPTA), to name a few.

Non uniform distribution of natural resources of water in the country is one of the biggest issue that can be addressed by setting up adequate

infrastructure for water and waste water treatment; and municipal sludge waste treatment to meet the growing water demand for domestic, industrial and commercial purposes. India’s water infrastructure market is currently pegged at around USD 100 billion which offers immense scope in the Indian market. CHEMTECH launched WaterEX series of international exhibitions and conferences in 2009 thus creating yet another forum to expand the scope of flagship event and creating greater engagement between various stakeholders.

Though broadly both the editions of WaterEX in Chennai and Ahmendabad will focus on water and waste water treatment and municipal solid waste, the sessions will be curated in context with the exact requirements

of technologies in the foreseeable future to meet the regional water demand.

The second board meeting will be organised on August 22, 2015 in Mumbai under the Chairmanship of Mr A B Pandya.

The seminar made it evident that a plethora of substantial prospects await Indian and overseas companies in India. With the country playing an increasing role with respect to investments in pharmaceutical and other industrial products, many global players from the chemical industry are seeking the Indian market for investment as there is

a growing impetus on knowledge based chemicals – specialty and fine chemicals. The chemical industry growth in India is about USD 150 billion with a projection of 11 per cent growth which can increase to 15 per cent. Even with the slightly constricting economic conditions, there is reason for optimism as these are cyclic phenomena. Regardless of this, the industry can assume an optimistic view as a turn of events is around the corner and the GDP is expected to be on better side of 7 per cent in the near future. Government support could further ease out business processes and fast-track development. Besides this, the 'Make in India' initiative of the Prime Minister will surely create a good environment with favourable policies for promoting the Indian industry.
