National Sports Day

patriotism. He helped India in securing gold medals in hockey in three
Olympic Games in 1928, 1932 and 1936.‖

Chand. The National Sports Day was
celebrated on 29th
August, 2019 at DPS
Kolar, campus with a lot of enthusiasm. The
day began with a special assembly in honour
of Major Dhyan Chand. Various sports
activities were organized for different classes. Zumba and Basket Ball drills
were the attractions of the day.
Dignitaries from the print media were also present and interacted with students.
A tug of war between the media persons and DPS staff elicited great
excitement and applause. The Principal, Madam Vandana Dhupar, welcomed
the dignitaries. In her address to the gathering, she reiterated the importance of
sports and sportsmanship in our lives. She urged the students and teachers to
turn to sports as a stress buster. The programme was a huge success and
occasions such as these are hugely success in channelizing the energies of the
young students.

Fitness Pledge Under the able Leadership of
our Principal Ms. Vandana Dhupar. The
oath was administered as the part of the
programme launched by Honorable Prime
Minister Sh Narender Modi Ji ―FIT INDIA MOVEMENT", on 29th
August
2019 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. During the launch
programme Hon'ble Prime Minister administered this Fitness Pledge.
The pledge enthused the zeal and determination in each one to be fit and
healthy.
27.08.2019 Teaching and Learning Workshop 'The limits of my language means the limit of my world'.
The Human Resource Development Centre of the Delhi Public School Society
organised a three days‘ workshop titled "Teaching and Learning of
English" for the teachers of Senior Secondary School. The workshop was
organised from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29th August, 19 at the DPS HRD
Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
Rear Admiral Mr. M.M. Chopra, Vice Chairman, the DPS society addressed
the teachers in inaugural ceremony and briefed them the journey of English
language from Shakespearean era to the modern time. Inaugural ceremony was
graced by the auspicious presence of Ms. Vinita Kher, Director-CEM, the DPS
Society and Director I/C HRDC as well as Professor B.P Khandelwal, member
of the DPS society. The workshop covered a wide range of topics like
Education and Literature, Developing Reading Pedagogy, Teaching and
Learning of poetry and literature, Indian Writing in English, to name a few.
The purpose of the workshop was to focus on details of the curriculum and
teacher preparation for student performance. It was a platform for receiving
new perspective, ideas and pedagogy. Ms.Seema Dubey attended the
workshop.

‗Dry flower Arrangement‘ Competition on 27th
August 2019 for classes IX and XI. Students
from different houses participated in the
competition. The floral arrangements were
evaluated on the basis of the idea, theme,

The students of class 3-E and 3-F of Delhi
Public School Kolar road Bhopal presented
a beautiful assembly on the festival of
Janmasthmi. The morning assembly started
with the special prayer which was conducted
by Madam Nidhi Nigam, Academic
Coordinator. The prayer was followed by
the scriptures and thought of the day.
The students also presented a beautiful and mesmerizing Raasleela which stole
the hearts of the audience. A short skit on the birth and the life of krishna was
also showcased by the students. Students participated enthusiastically in
general knowledge Quiz on Krishna which was conducted by our Honourable
Principal Madam ,Mrs Vandana Dhupar. Her interaction with the kids was
motivational and enriching.
The programme ended with Matki fod where students formed a pyramid

With a view to encourage scientific and
mathematical temper, Departments of
Mathematics and Science of DPS Kolar Road
organised an Inter-House Maths and Science
Quiz Competition for classes IX - XII.
Each team comprised of 4 members & there
were 6 rounds based on mental gymnastics, pi
rates, Biology, Physics & Chemistry.
Students from all four houses actively participated in the quiz.
It was a very tough competition between the 4 houses. First position was
bagged by Palash House, with Amaltas at Second position and Kachnar house
stood third.
The quiz not only enhanced students' knowledge on Maths and Science but was
also a step forward towards their all round development.

The festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi were
celebrated by the students of DPS Kolar
Road with great enthusiasm and fervor.
Janmashtami – the birthday of Shri
Krishna falls on the eighth day of
―Bhadra‖ and Ganesh Chaturthi is
celebrated on the fourth day of the Shukla
paksh of Hindu month of ―Bhadra‖. The
celebrations were initiated by the students
paying their obeisance by singing Bhajans of Ganapati and Krishna and
reciting the Lord‘s different names. The festivities included vigourful dance
performance on Ganesha Aarti and a beautiful dance performance – ―Krishna
Lila‖ dedicated to the life of Shri Krishna as well as a skit elaborating the
contemporary significance and importance of the teachings of Krishna. The
audience exploded in joy when the celebrations attained its crescendo with
―Matki-fod‖ or ―Dahi-handi‖ with the kids emulating prankful lila of their
beloved Krishna.

Commerce Department at DPS Kolar Road
, organized "Quiz Technico" for commerce
students to make their subject more
comprehensive. Four houses participated
enthusiastically naming Amaltas as Alpha
Advocates, Kachnar as Fire fighters,
Gulmohar as Dare Devils and Palash as
Shooting stars. Each team comprised of
two members from class XII and one from
class XI, Commerce stream. It was a combination of arresting vocal presence,
audible audience engagement and stimulation of tantalising questions. It has
assessed knowledge through five rounds - Direct Question rounds, Two visual
rounds, Audio visual rounds, rapid fire rounds was the real game changers final
round. Conduction was done by all the team members. Palash House stood
First, Kachnar house was runner up and Gulmohar house stood third.

Odyssey International Lit Fest
organised by CMS RAJAJIPURAM from
20th to 24th August 2019.
The entire event included an array of
competitions such as Dramaturgy,
Cogitation, Satirical Caricatures, Epode
and the like.
DPS Kolar bagged three prizes.
3rd position in Folk Dance - Galactica. It
includes a cash prize of Rs. 5000.

coconut ladoo‖
To involve students in Janmashtami
celebration week. Special coconut ladoo
making activity was conducted at DPS
Kolar for the students of class II.
Tiny hands made coconut ladoo‘s, enjoyed
the aroma and relished yummy sweet. It was a perfect occasion for the students
to show their love for Lord Krishna and to commemorate Janmashtami.

DPS Kolar has conducted a valuable session for the students of classes XI &
XII in which 11 Global Universities were invited under one roof. This session
has enabled the students to find the right fit abroad institution as per their
interests after high school.
The aim of this session is to make
students understand the abroad higher
education system which includes
information on the degrees,
application procedures as well as the
available scholarships. Principal, Mrs.
Vandana Dhupar, felicitated the
delegates and thanked the
management for providing this global platform to the students of DPS Kolar.
11 Global University representatives were present for sharing the critical
information about the highly ranked programs and scholarship opportunities.
Students had a very good opportunity for a direct interaction with the
University Representatives, and had the chance to ask specific questions and
speak about universities, academic programs as per interest, scholarships and
admissions.
This interactive visit has surely helped the students to make important career
decisions in institutions abroad for their future.

definitions, spelling and pairing key
concepts with related names, resulting
in greater retention and memorization
of facts. DPS Kolar organised an Inter
House Crossword competition for the
classes 6 to 8 .Students were given sheets to solve the puzzle. It was a learning
experience and students enjoyed solving crossword puzzle.

‗The Essence of Mathematics lies in its freedom.’
Taking this idea forth DPSS-HRDC designed a three-day Mathematics
Workshop for the secondary school teachers under the guidance of Mr. Harish
Sachdeva, Director HRDC, the DPS Society, in which 45 teachers from
different Delhi Public Schools from Central and North India participated.
The inaugural session commenced with the lighting of the lamp by dignified
person, the Principal Resource Expert Prof. A K Rajput, Head, DESM,
NCERT and Dr. Sharda Manocha Joint Director, HRDC, the DPS Society, the
program Director along with the participants. The workshop covered the wide
range of topics like ‗Nature of Mathematics, Axiom, Theorem, Corollary,
Postulates, Lemna and Algorithm. The basic intention was to help the students
by creating their interest in acquiring knowledge in Mathematics.
Mr. Anil Kumar, Principal, DPS Faridabad emphasized on the fact that the
questions must be asked or presented in a proper way to get proper learning of
the particular topic by learners. Prof. Hukum Singh, Former Dean
(Academics), NCERT, the importance of Matrix achiever ‗No Cost Low Cost‘.
He also explained importance of 3 H‘s, in Mathematics teaching which are
Head on, Hands on and Heart on.
Mr. Anil Kathria, HOD Mathematics, DPS R K Puram and Ms. Himani Asija,
PGT, DPS Vasant Kunj, spread their day to day life experience about how
mathematics can be taught using cards, using your own hands for mathematics
concepts to be mastered.
The last but the most importance session was taken by Mr. Harish Sachdeva,
Director HRDC, the DPSS. He explained the requirements to crack
competitions like SMTE, IMO, RMO, NTSE, etc. – Speed, accuracy, memory
retention, compression, time management and present of mind.
The valedictory ceremony started with honouring the dignitaries. The
programme was followed by address of Chief Guest Prof. B P Khandelwal,
member, the DPSS, Mrs Vinita Kher, Director, CEM and In-charge, HRDC,
the DPSS expressed through her words of wisdom the importance of the
subject and the teachers of Mathematics for the fruitful development of nation.
In the end, Mr. Harish Sachdeva, Director HRDC, DPSS, thanked Shri V K
Shunglu, Charman, DPSS for his constant support to all the HRDC,
Educational endeavours at teacher –in-service training.

An Inter House Solo Song Competition
was organised by the department of music for classes IX to XII. Four
participants from each house participated in this mega event. The theme for the
competition was Filmi songs sung by some of the renowned singers like Arijit
Singh, Sonu Nigam, Neha Kakkar,Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidi Chouhan. In
total 16 participants participated in this competition.
Anindita Nandkumar of Class XI Amaltas House bagged the first position,
Mitesh Sharma of Class XII Palash House bagged the second position and third
position was bagged by two students of Class IX-Snigdha Dwivedi (Kachnar
House) and Mihika Malviya(Amaltas House). Overall House winner was
Amaltas House.
The competition was judged by Mrs.Anjali Rangnekar and Mr.Sameer
Shrivastava. The competition was witnessed by the Principal,Mrs.Vandana
Dhupar, Vice Principal,Mrs.Anita Dwivedi and Academic
Coordinator,Mrs.Sumati Shrivastava.
The function came to an end with words of appreciation and encouragement by
Madam Principal to all the participants.

The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with patriotism and fervor at DPS
Kolar on 15th August 2019. The day
began with the hoisting of the National
Flag by the Chief Guest Shri Hari

Chancellor, Jagran Lakecity
University, Bhopal, Pro-Vice

Road & Rau Indore, Founder, Gurudev Gupta Shiksha Kendra & Somvati Devi
Shiksha Kendra .It was followed by the National Anthem. The students saluted
the National Flag and pledged to uphold the honour and dignity of the country.
Madam Principal Mrs. Vandana Dhupar spoke eloquently about the sacrifices
and efforts made by freedom fighters for our independence. She urged the
students to do their best and feel proud to be an Indian.
Su-raksha, a bond of commitment was the theme of the programme. The
cultural saga included patriotic songs, an inspiring Hindi Skit, ‗Hai Naman
Unko‘, English Skit, ‗Soldier-the Valiant Hero‘ and dances depicting
patriotism and unity. The students of Somwati Devi Shiksha Kendra performed
a dance with zeal and enthusiasm.
An Inter House Group Song Competition was organized by the Music
Department on the theme of Patriotism.
The programme ended with the Vote of thanks proposed by Tisya Yadav,
House Captain, Gulmohar House.

zeal and full enthusiasm. All the students felt

To celebrate the Independence Day of our
country a tricolour kite making activity was
conducted at DPS Kolar for the students of
class II on Tuesday 13.8.19. Children
participated in the activity with full zeal and
dedication. It was a wonderful opportunity for
the students to showcase their creativity and
love for their nation in the form of beautiful tri colour kites made by them.
―Rakhi is the pure and sacred thread that binds
two souls in a bond of love.‖
To celebrate this special love bond … Rakhi
Making Activity was conducted for the students
of class - I. Students came well prepared for the
activity with variety of decorative material and
silk threads. Using their creativity and
imagination young Dipsites made very innovative
and attractive designs of Rakhi. Each rakhi was unique and worth
appreciating, showcasing their love for their siblings.

*Delhi Public School Kolar Road won the 'Inter
School Sahodhya Debate Competition' organised at Carmel Convent Senior Secondary
School, BHEL Bhopal. DPS KOLAR was
declared the 'Overall Champion' amongst thirty
six renowned schools of the city.
'Artificial Intelligence: Is it a threat?' was the topic for the competition.
Best speaker 'Against' the motion was awarded to Saksham Pandey of class XI
and Ananya Pariyani of class X was highly appreciated as the speaker 'For' the
motion. The galaxy of intellectuals who judged the competition were Dr
Rashmi Diwedi, Madam Kalpana Malik and Madam John.

The students of class VIII visited Regional Science Centre, Bhopal {RSCB}
located at Shyamla Hills on Thursday,
8.08.19. The aim of the visit was to
develop scientific awareness and scientific
temper among the students. After a brief
introduction about the centre, the students
explored different zones of the centre.
They saw an array of exhibits of physics,
chemistry and biology. The exhibits were
not only informative but also were very interesting as they provide opportunity
to learn science by doing. They were excited about the Taramandal – a mini
potable planetarium about different stars , constellations , zodiac signs. and
also had fun at mirror gallery. A 3D show was also put up and at Innovation
hub they saw display of things made out of waste material. They witnessed
some extraordinary experiments which use simple concepts of science. The
students had an enriching experience as they learnt various concepts of science.

enthusiastic while preparing web pages.

―Creating a bond of love‖
Raksha Bandhan is a festival which
celebrates the bond of love and
affection between brothers and sisters.
To strengthen this special bond of love
& affection a very creative Rakhi
making activity was conducted for the
students of class II. Students
enthusiastically participated and made
beautiful Rakhis using variety of
decorative material. This activity not only enhanced their creative sense but at
the same time gave them an emotional satisfaction too.
The Community Club members of DPS
Kolar Road visited Lok Uthan Welfare
Society to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. It
was a moment of joy and new bonds
formed with the under privileged
children who were delighted to have
visitors. The celebration began with a
short prayer followed by arti. Handmade
colourful rakhis was tied to the children and our students also gave them
sweets. Two teachers Ms. Surbhi Sharma and Ms. Neetu Singh along with Ms.
Anuradha Mishra, Helpage Co-ordinator accompanied 36 students of the
Community Club. The children also played games and sang songs to entertain
the inmates of the home. The visit to the shelter home was an extremely
illuminating and gratifying experience.
20 students of our school band participated in the
inauguration ceremony of MP Tourism Quiz
Competition. The chief guest for the event was
Dr. Govind Singh. Our school band was selected
as the Best School Band and were awarded
Rs.6150/- for their performance
DPS, Kolar Road students participated in Inter DPS Swimming National Boys
Championship (Under 14) and Medwin Shaju
Abraham stood 4th
in 100 m freestyle, 5th in 100
m Butterfly.
In a team event we stood 6th in 4×50m Freestyle
Relay and were also placed at 5th position in
4×50m Medley Relay.

6.08.2019 An Educational Excursion was organized by DPS Kolar for classes VI and VII
on Wednesday, 6th
August 2019 to Tribal Museum and State Museum
respectively, as a culmination activity to
understand our rich culture and history.
Excited squeals of the children could be heard
as they entered the gates of the Tribal museum
and the State Museum. They were in awe of
the visual delight around them. Curious eyes
darted around the display of extraordinary and
peculiar model masks, utensils, jewelry,
clothes, weapons and other articles of daily
use of tribal people.
Seven major tribes of Madhya Pradesh (MP) Gond, Bhil, Baiga, Kol, Korku,
Sahariya, Bhariya — have recorded their fast disappearing traditions in the
tribal museum in Bhopal, transforming the oral narratives into huge paintings
and sculptures.
Students were enamored by what they heard and saw. They spoke animatedly
and were eager to know more. They examined the exhibits and looked really
impressed. It was as if they were transported to another unknown world.
It was clearly a unique experience for the young DIPSITES of DPS Kolar as
they learnt and appreciated what our culture, past and present, means.

were help us to develop the early
literacy skills and stimulate curiosity.
Therefore story telling session was
conducted at DPS Kolar on 5th
August 2019, for classes 4 and 5 by Ms Ayushi
Mathur, certified story teller from Kathalaya. She conducted this session by
narrating stories which were based on moral values. Children enjoyed and
responded to the stories . She emphasized on voice modulation, gestures and
body language. Children participated in this session whole heartedly.
―Forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve
peace‖
An assembly on the topic ―Hiroshima
Peace & Forgiveness Day‖ was
conducted by the students of class II-A.
A beautiful thought on Peace Day was
followed with a glance of the Hiroshima
and Nagasakhi disaster. A moment of
silence was observed to pay homage to
all the victims. A role- play was enacted by a student on a little girl named
Sadako Sasaki, a survivor of the bombing. The students took a step forward to
spread peace by a silent peace walk displaying various placards such as Peace
is Patriotic and Peace begins with a smile. Overall, it was a special effort taken
by the students to advocate peace and emphasised the need to set up peace
initiatives at school-level.

lifestyle.‘
To divert the focus of our students on this
important concept, Class I A conducted its
assembly on the theme ‗Healthy Mind lives in
Healthy Body‘. Students spoke about the
importance of hygiene, healthy food, proper
sleep, required amount of water and
importance of exercise for healthy living. They also explained about the
components of a balanced diet. Various categories of exercises were also
explained namely aerobics, yoga, cycling, jogging, swimming, dancing etc.
Children spoke with confidence, conveying the message of becoming
physically and mentally healthy.
The young audience enthusiastically participated in mass P.T. that concluded
the assembly.

“MATHEMATICS IS THE QUEEN OF ALL SCIENCES AND THE
KING OF ALL THE ART”
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to respected Principal Madam, Vice
Principal madam, Head of the department and the management who
gave me opportunity to attend the workshop as a resource person. This
program was conducted by two resource persons.
My Co Resource person is Ms. Seema Dubey, PGT (Maths),
Sagar Public School, Saket Nagar Bhopal.
As a resource person one has to follow the following points:
1. Preparation of the workshop as per the planner.
2. Preparation of the power point presentation and handouts.
3. Preparation of the Activity and topics of group discussion.
4. To decide what you want your participants to learn.
5. Preparation of all the FAQs as the audience is the mathematics
teachers of all over the M.P.
6. Discussion and deciding that how we want to teach each section.
This program is conducted for two days. In these two days we deliver nine
sessions one by one. The sessions are as follows:

2. Session 2: Teaching of Mathematics
3. Session 3: Planning to Teach
4. Session 4: Gender Sensitization
5. Session 5: Hands on Experience

9. Session 9: Feedback and Certificate Distribution
A great experience I have in this workshop. Many activities teachers performed
in the program. Many topics were discussed. There were 80 mathematics
teachers in the workshop from all over the M. P. They participated with lot of
enthusiasm and zeal.
As a resource person I learnt so many things from the teachers and came to
know about various teaching styles, methodologies and culture of the schools.
This was possible because of the guidance of the authorities. I hope in your
guidance many more success will be achieved.
