Travel During Slow Periods Avoiding the most popular mes for your des na on can dras cally reduce your costs. If you’re going to the beach, for example, try to go in the late summer or early fall.

Save Money Planning Your Vaca on! (part two)

Bring Entertainment If you’re traveling with li le ones, pack some entertainment for the flight or ride. Some op ons are e-books, regular books and DVDs borrowed from the library before your trip. Older children can make their own choices about what to bring and can help keep track of items so they don’t get lost along the way.

Go Camping Campsites o en cost $30 or less a night, which is much less than hotels. If you have some basic supplies, including a small tent, you can explore new areas on a small budget.

Take a Road Trip Skipping flights altogether and reaching your des na on by car is one affordable approach, especially for large families that would require mul ple plane ckets. Also, pack food for the road in a cooler to avoid costly pit stops.

Take a Day Trip A getaway doesn’t have to include a sleepover. With a li le research, you could probably find lots of local a rac ons that you haven’t yet visited.

Think about planning ahead for next year with a Vaca on Club Savings Account with The Milford Bank. Small weekly deposits can add up to a larger budget to spend next year. (No minimum balance or service charges. Penalty for early withdrawal.) Stop by any office to get details or open your account today!

Tips to Avoid Home Repair Fraud Now that the weather is warmer and the days are longer, you may be planning to make some updates or repairs to your home. Here are some ps to help you avoid becoming the vic m of fraud:

Always compare es mates carefully; the lowest bid or price is not always the best one. Always get es mates in wri ng. Never agree to get your own permits; this will make you directly responsible for everything. Never be pressured into making hasty decisions. Never accept someone’s offer to take you to the bank to withdraw money for any reason. Never fall for phone or door-to-door offers of free es mates, home inspec ons or “special deals” of any kind. Never pay cash. Never pay for unfinished work or jobs that have not been inspected.

Seniors are the most at-risk when it comes to fraudulent contractors and home improvement scams. Why are they preyed upon more than other types of homeowners? First, seniors own more than half of all the financial assets in the United States, making them prime targets. 30 percent of all scam cases in the United States list seniors as vic ms. Most importantly, if the remodeling job doesn't feel right to you, then you should not proceed. You have a three-day window a er discussing the project with the contractor to rescind, and it is completely within your consumer rights to do so. So do not hesitate or be in midated by the contractor if you feel uncertain about the project and want to rethink having it done.
