Des is a true-crime drama focusing on one of the most infamous criminal cases in UK history – Dennis Nilsen. Referred to as the ‘kindly killer’, Nilsen (David Tennant) was a local civil servant who spent five years murdering boys and young men he met on the streets of Soho, London from 1978 to 1983. He would meet and befriend these men before offering them food or lodgings for the evening back at his North London flat. His victims were often homeless or living off grid, having slipped through the cracks of 1980s society and were therefore welcoming of this stranger’s apparent generosity. When he was finally caught on 9th February 1983, Nilsen had murdered as many as 15 men over a period of five years, making him Britain’s most prolific serial killer of the time.

After his arrest, Nilsen was astonishing in his honesty: initially admitting outright to all 15 murders in the police car outside his flat. But infuriatingly for the investigating detectives, he couldn’t remember any of his victims’ names. With no apparent motive, inconclusive forensic evidence and most of Nilsen’s victims living off-grid, the police started the biggest manhunt investigation in UK history. This time not for the murderer, but for the murdered.

The story is told through the prism of three isolated men - a detective, a biographer, and Nilsen himself. While Detective Peter Jay (Daniel Mays) and the police investigation’s attempt to get justice for as many victims as possible provides the narrative and emotional spine, the relationship between Nilsen and his biographer Brian Masters (Jason Watkins) allows us to delve into the mind of one of the most emotionally elusive serial killers the world has ever seen. Can we ever really understand the mind of a psychopathic serial killer? And, if we try, what price do we pay?

Soccer Aid for Unicef, the biggest charity football match in the world, returns to ITV this Autumn. The game sees England play against the Soccer Aid World XI, with both sides fielding teams that combine former footballers and celebrities. Viewers will get to enjoy the match from the comfort of their sofas as the game will be broadcast live on ITV and STV and, for the first time ever, will be played behind closed doors.

Last year, Soccer Aid raised a record-breaking £7.9m. This year, the money raised will help stop the spread of coronavirus and limit the impact on children’s lives – and every £1 donated until 6 October 2020 will become £3, thanks to the UK government and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance.

The idea for Soccer Aid was conceived by Robbie Williams in 2006 and, over the last 13 years, the match has taken place at Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and Wembley – raising more than £38m for Unicef in the process.

Jonathan Ross’s Comedy Club is a Hotsauce TV Production for ITV. Exec Producer for Hotsauce TV is Tom Barrett and Commissioning Editor for ITV is Joe Mace. The experience of enjoying live comedy from exciting new

talent in an intimate space is unbeatable. With venues currently closed, Jonathan Ross’s Comedy Club - a Hotsauce TV Production - will showcase the very best new talents performing in a recreation of the vibe and atmosphere of a small comedy venue, all filmed within Covid guidelines. Jonathan is always the first to champion up-and-coming talent and this new series will see him get behind fresh new comedians on the cusp of their big break, offering them a stage upon which to make people laugh.

All destined to be household names of the future, these acts will perform to an audience under the watchful eye of comedy and broadcasting talent, Jonathan. Each new 30 minute episode - which will air on ITV later this year - will see four new faces perform their short but memorable set while more established names will get the opportunity to try out new material.

Jonathan says: “Apart from the excuse to wear make-up, my favourite part of this job has always been giving exciting new talent a platform to show off their skills. The excitement and joy in seeing a new face come out and deliver memorable comedy is a wonderful feeling, and we want to make sure as many people as possible get to experience it. There’s so much incredible comedy talent around at the moment with all too few opportunities to do what they do best. I’m very much looking forward to giving these acts the exposure they deserve, having a good laugh and finally leaving my front room.”

Tom Barrett, Executive Producer for Hotsauce TV, says: “Not only are we incredibly excited about giving our finest emerging comedians the exposure they deserve, we’re also looking forward to giving our viewers a taste of the excitement, anarchy and fun of a night out at an intimate comedy club.”

ITV Head of Entertainment Commissioning, Katie Rawcliffe, says: “It is great to be working with Jonathan on a new project. Other than Jonathan, part of the appeal for this format is it’s a fantastic vehicle for finding and growing the new comedy talent of the future.”

three contestants play alongside some of their favourite celebrities in a bid to go home with a big cash prize. They’ll need to have luck on their side as everything could change at the roll of a coin.

Three teams - made up of the player and their celebrity partner - have to roll a coin down a moving conveyor belt towards slots which are labelled with large cash sums to win, though also ‘Bankrupt’ slots which mean the player loses everything.

As the game progresses, the money values get larger, and as a result, so do the penalties. In this game of luck and fierce competition, the roll of one final coin could determine whether the contestant loses everything or goes home ‘Rolling In It.’

The celebrities appearing on this series include comedian Jimmy Carr, radio and TV presenter Mark Wright, reality TV star favourite Gemma Collins, football pundit Chris Kamara, Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton, Cold Feet star John Thomson, comedian Joel Dommett and singer and radio DJ Fleur East.

5 Gold Rings is a Possessed (part of ITV studios) and Talpa production for ITV.

Phillip Schofield is back with the gameshow 5 Gold Rings. Each week viewers will see two teams go head to head as they battle it out to answer a host of visual questions against the clock by placing ever smaller gold rings onto a supersized image displayed on an LED floor beneath their feet. The smaller the ring the bigger the money and the harder to pinpoint the answer.

The stakes are high for the teams as the they have just one chance to answer each question: if they answer the question correctly they will win the cash. But if they are incorrect, the opposing team will have the chance to steal that question – and the cash. This means they could win DOUBLE the jackpot – more than £50,000!

To help the teams they will also be given the two ‘5 Gold Rings lifelines’. They can flip the floor, revealing a new question, and they can use their team of five, made up of family and friends sat in the audience who, using a digital tablet, will be able to place a virtual ring where they think the correct answer is.

For the contestants, every pixel really does count as state-of-the-art software, specially crafted for this game detects - down to just one pixel - exactly where each ring is placed on the floor.

Each round gets decidedly more difficult as the gold rings decrease in size, making it even tougher to encircle the correct answer. As each ring decreases in size, the money increases.

ITV invites viewers to use their little grey cells as we find out who the country has crowned Britain’s Favourite Detective. Voiced by the award-winning actress Sheridan Smith, this one-off TV special will celebrate these legendary characters, counting down the greatest TV sleuths from the last 50 years as voted by the great British public.

From the infamous Sherlock Holmes, to Line of Duty’s AC-12, from Belgium’s stalwart Hercule Poirot, to modern day hero Luther, from the formidable Jane Tennison to unwitting crime buster Miss Marple, these legendary characters have kept us all on the edge of seats as they attempt to catch some of the most devilish of villains.

Britain’s Favourite Detective will take a trip through the crime files of some the country’s best-loved sleuths and crown one of them the nation’s favourite.

But who will take this coveted title? Will US favourite Columbo be crowned the winner, or could the title be in the bag for Oxford’s Inspector Morse? Will the quintessentially British Midsomers Murders make it to the top spot, or will the brooding Scandi Noir offering, The Bridge win out?

As well as archive clips from these iconic shows, viewers will also be treated to behind-the-scenes footage from some of the most popular crime solvers ever, reliving all of the murders, the suspects and the startling revelations, climaxing in the biggest whodunit of them all – who is Britain’s Favourite Detective?

With exclusive access across two years, this film is an intimate portrayal of Prince William, following him as we’ve never seen him before on a global mission to champion action for the natural world and celebrate the pioneering work of local heroes. The Duke of Cambridge reveals that young people hold the key to a more positive future relationship with the environment, and that their determined drive to tackle climate change has made him an optimist.

He explains how his mission to give nature a voice has felt even more personal since he became a father and that he wants to leave behind a better world for future generations. Working together to protect the planet, he believes that local communities have the power to protect and repair the natural world on which we all depend.

The challenge is daunting but this film is a message of hope driven by Prince William’s own optimism. He believes that community action is a vital part of the solution and that working together to protect nature – from the smallest moth to the largest elephant – each and every one of us has the power to protect and restore our planet.

Filmed at a time of unparalleled change for everyone, the documentary follows Prince William from Africa to Asia, from London to Liverpool and to the Sandringham Estate, charting his journey as the world has awoken to the urgent need to restore our planet. It shows The Duke as he has developed his lifelong passion for African conservation into a global leadership role on the environment. We see him join conservation heroes great and small; from Sir David Attenborough to children and young people protecting the natural world close to home.

Once you connect with these incredible animals you establish a relationship that is unique and it leaves you with no choice but to see the whole thing through to the end, no matter what.” John Bishop This special ITV documentary series from the BAFTA-Award winning wildlife producer behind The Blue Planet, tells the incredible story of two beluga whales being released from captivity and back into the wild - as comedian John Bishop follows every step of their complex and deeply moving journey.

For the last 10 years they have been living together, performing in an entertainment park - Changfeng Ocean World - in China. Now, the new owners of the park are committed to returning them to a life in the ocean.

John is extremely passionate about the whales and develops an astonishing bond with them. He swims with them and helps train and coach them throughout the endless setbacks to their planned release into safe Icelandic waters - battling challenging logistics and bad weather.

This new one-off hour long documentary for ITV explores the personality of notorious serial killer Dennis Nilsen, who admitted to murdering up to 15 young men at his homes in London and disposed of their bodies in his garden and down his drain. On the surface, Nilsen was a mild-mannered civil servant, though his true persona was terrifying and deadly. Nilsen was drawn to young men who he murdered and brutalised in bizarre rituals. But he was also a rarity – a killer who wanted to talk and to boast about his crimes from the moment he was caught.

Timed to coincide with new ITV drama Des, this documentary features insight from experts who attempted to get inside the mind of a murderer including criminologist David Wilson, who interviewed and corresponded with Nilsen over several decades.

Featuring new material and previously unseen archive, along with interviews with victims’ families, the documentary will also include footage from an astonishing and infamous interview Nilsen gave to ITV at Albany Prison in 1992.

Sharing the untold story of the prison years of Britain’s two most infamous female criminals for this new film in ITV’s Crime & Punishment strand, Sir Trevor McDonald sheds fresh light on both Myra Hindley and Rose West’s psychology and criminal behaviour whilst behind bars. Moors murdererer Hindley was considered the most wicked woman in Britain for killing five children in the 1960s with her lover Ian Brady. West was found guilty of 10 equally terrible murders with her husband, Fred West, including killing her own daughter. West and Hindley are the only women who have ever been given whole life tariffs for their crimes, meaning they would never be released.

On conviction West, 41, was locked up in H ‘Hell Wing’ in HMP Durham, which held Britain’s most serious female prisoners, including IRA terrorists, sex offenders, arsonists and 52-year-old Hindley.

With a host of exclusive contributors, including former Category A prisoners, the programme, made by Blink Films, reveals how West and Hindley grew close in jail, bonding over their similar crimes, then had an affair, which cooled as they became rivals to be ‘prison royalty’.

The programme shows how Hindley continued to manipulate people from behind bars, just as she deceived the children she abducted, even persuading a nun-turned-prison guard to help her escape. And we discover how West, who still displayed terrifying flashes of rage, continued to demand favours of her children, whose lives she tried to control from behind bars.

London Zoo: An Extraordinary Year (w/t) has been given exclusive access inside ZSL London Zoo and its sister zoo Whipsnade during lockdown, as staff and keepers care for more than 700 species - from giraffes and tigers, to monkeys and meerkats. The 2 x 60 minute series provides a unique view of the Zoo, part of international conservation charity ZSL, from the perspective of its close-knit team of keepers and vets as they continue to care for the 20,000 animals in London’s Regent’s Park and atop the Dunstable Downs in Bedfordshire.

London Zoo: An Extraordinary Year (w/t) reveals how human and animal inhabitants alike have had to adapt to the eerily silent surroundings - from pygmy goats and Jimmy the gibbon missing the attention of zoo visitors, or vets devising whole new social distancing plans for scanning a pregnant Okapi. In the Zoo’s 192-year rich history it only ever closed for two weeks during the Blitz and the series will lightly dip into moments of rich archive.

As the keepers work tirelessly to care for their animal family in the midst of a pandemic, the Zoo’s present-day role as a scientific conservation charity - now needed more than ever – is increasingly apparent and with the doors now open again to limited numbers and financial pressure, the Zoo fights for survival.

They then compete in a series of fast-paced general knowledge rounds to get themselves and their number through to the Final. In the Final, four players come together to try and win the four-digit jackpot defined by their numbers.

But the numbers don’t just define the jackpot. The number each player brings through is also the number of questions they must answer correctly in the Final game against the clock. So the bigger the jackpot, the harder it is to be a Winning Combination.

Celebrity Karaoke Club is made by BAFTA-winning producers Monkey, which is part of NBCUniversal International Studios. The series is executive produced by Will Macdonald, Creative Director for Monkey.

Coming to ITV2 this autumn, this brand new six-part series will see seven celebrities head into a karaoke bar with the hopes of winning this exciting music competition. Whether their voice is like Mariah Carey or Mariah Scarey, in this competition it’s all about the love of karaoke and commanding a stage - in everything from epic solo performances to group battles. But there’s a twist, because the people they will have to impress are their fellow competitors, as every celebrity karaoke singer is also a karaoke judge. At the end of every episode they’ll be sending someone home, with new celebrities joining the competition also hoping to be crowned the karaoke king or queen.

In between the rounds the stars can grab a cocktail at the bar or have a good old gossip about their rivals in the toilets, because when the singing stops, the competition really begins. Can the stars form alliances with their fellow competitors and let popularity propel them to victory? Or will they rely on their performance to steal the top spot?

Chronicling 10 years of high drama, head turning glamour, rocky relationships, and the most outlandish characters that Essex has to offer, The TOWIE Years will relive the most unforgettable moments throughout the show that redefined reality TV.

Each episode of the 10-part series will look back on a year in the show’s history, starting with 2010, the year the show first burst onto screens, as viewers revelled in the highs and lows of Essex lothario Mark Wright and his on/off girlfriend Lauren Goodger’s tempestuous relationship.

Taking viewers from the beginning right through to the present day, the series will remember the golden couples, the epic fall outs, the holiday high jinks, and the many turns of phrase and wardrobe choices that have become synonymous with the BAFTA award-winning show.

The TOWIE Years accompanies a brand new 18-episode series of The Only Way Is Essex, which returns to ITVBe in the Autumn.

Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels & Acquisitions, ITV said “In its decade on screens TOWIE has produced some of the most jaw-dropping, talked-about TV moments in reality TV history, and as we reach this milestone year for the show, what better opportunity to look back and remember everything that’s made The Only Way Is Essex an unmissable 10 years of TV.”
