holiday light shows in the coun-ry. With Norma Honeycutt at the

helm, the rst Lights Spectacular,Hill Country Style was underway.

Lights Spectacular continues toreceive nationwide recognition. In2007, Les Thomas article in South-ern Living magazine describedJohnson Citys Blanco CountyCourthouse as the centerpieceof one of the biggest shows onhe trail ... shining brighter thanhe star of Bethlehem. Lights

Hayrides and carriage rides areavailable throughout the season. That very rst year, a decisionas made to focus on the com-

munity and support local busi-nesses and non-prots. Each

eekend, the GardenClub lls the Courthouse

horse-drawn carriage rides areavailable November 27 throughDecember 26 (except Christmas).

Down the street, the canopy of lights at Pedernales Electric Co-

operative makes the event evengrander. Over 1 million lights turnhe trees around PECs headquar-ers into a magical lit forest. One

expects elves to pop up behindhe trees with a wink. The scene is

simply breathtaking. Throughouthe community, the city park is

transformed into a Winter Won-derland and homes and business-es come alive with traditional andcreative lighting on every corneras they compete in the LightingContest. Less than ve minutes
