YEAR 6 UPDATE
It has been a great start to Year 6; the work is challenging but we know it will
really help us to improve and prepare for secondary school. The teachers are
very lovely and comforting and they have helped us to settle in ready for an
excellent year. Being in Year 6 means extra responsibility. Therefore, the
teachers thought it would be a good idea to give the year group the oppor-
tunity to have roles within the school community. Some of these jobs are
helping the amazing site manager, Mr Kelly, as a Junior Site Apprentice, help-
ing the lovely, hardworking office staff with jobs such as shredding, printing
and handing out the registers in the morning and afternoon, and helping Mrs
Bridle run the Hill View library. Additionally, Year 6 have also started a new
project called Cloud Busting based on a book by Malorie Blackman. This is a
story about the building of an extraordinary friendship. The book is challeng-
ing because it is written in poetic form.
We are all looking forward to what the rest of the year holds.

NUTS
Please be reminded we are a NUT FREE school. No nuts or nut products of
any kind can be in school. Thank you for your co operation.
ILLNESSES
Please can we ask that if your child comes into contact with Chicken Pox,
Shingles, or Measles to let the school know as soon as possible as we have a
child in school with an impaired immune system.
HAIR
Please ensure that long hair is tied up. This is for health and safety reasons
and it also helps keeps the bugs away.
CENSUS
You may not be aware but each term the Department for Education require a
census of every school. The census is used to inform and establish what our
future budget will be. One of the measures they collect is how many children
in Reception, Y1 and Y2 take up the hot free school meal. This data is then
used to set our budget, however, we are not getting as much money as we
could as some children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 do not have the entitled free
school meal. We would like to ask that all parents in Reception, Y1 and Y2
book a free school meal on Thursday 3rd October for their child – if all fami-
lies did this the school would receive approximately £20,000 in additional
funding. This additional funding would make a real difference to us. Thank
you for your co operation.

HOT MEALS TASTER SESSION
On Tuesday we hosted a taster session for the new hot school menu, which will start after half term. The children from year 5 & 6 sampled 5 dishes and were asked to give their comments. Here is the feedback we received afterwards from the person from Chartwells.
“The children participated with such enthusiasm and positivity when presented with the new dishes which will be appear on the upcoming Winter Menu. The children were articulate, constructive, expressive and honest. They highlighted their preferences with consideration, supplying a reason as to why it was liked or disliked. They commented on texture, spices, flavours and even the size of some of the vegetables. Their favourite dish was by far the Tomato and Quorn Taco, surprisingly. Most admitted that they would not have chosen this from the menu had they not tried it. You have set the bar high this week, thank you again for your positive participation.”
FREE SCHOOL MEALS
Did you know that if your joint income is below £16,190.00 per year you may be
entitled to Free School Meals. In addition to this, you could also be eligible for a
uniform grant. Please contact the office for more details.
YEAR 2 OUTCOME
The Y2 outcome for their project ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ is on Friday 20th
September.
Parents are invited into school to see your child’s work once you have collected
them at the end of the day. (3.15pm)
HARVEST FESTIVAL
Harvest Festival will be celebrated on Monday 30th September this year and we
will be collecting food donations for the Kinson Foodbank.
Please only donate long life food such as tins, packets, cartons etc. No fresh food
as this cannot be stored correctly.
POLITE REMINDER
Please can we remind all parents that children should not be playing with
equipment or riding scooters/bikes in the playground before school starts or at
the end of the day.
REQUEST FROM THE SITE MANAGER
Does any parent or carer know of a good way to secure the basketball stands
and goals? We currently use bags of stones, but these unfortunately split and
cause a hazard. If you have any ideas or materials that can help with this, please
let the school office know or speak to Mr Kelly when you see him.
