Fire destroys home>> Local family loseseverything in blazeKALISHA [email protected]

AFOREST Hills family has beenleft homeless after a fire torethrough their dwelling last

week.Andreas Mathios, a member of

South African Community ActionNetwork (SACan), whowas on scene, reported that the fire started ataround 5.45pm.

Mathois said no onewas injured inthe blaze. “Unfortunately, one petdied, but the other three weresaved,” said Mathios.

The cause of the fire is still underinvestigation.

Teresa Jones, SACan casemanager, said the family losteverything, including their belong-ings and most of the house itself.

“The family has requested thatanyone who would like to help themshould buy shopping vouchers (Pickn Pay, Pavilion, Game, Spar, etc.)rather than items, as this will allowthem to buy what they need as andwhen it’s required.

“This will help to cut down onduplicate donations,” said Jones.

“They also need a three-bed-roomed flat/cottage (semi-furnishedand animal-friendly) to live in for thenext eight to 12 months, while theydecidehowtomoveforward. Theirin-surance will cover rental costs, so itwon’t need to be rent-free.”

Jones added that the family isgrateful toeveryonewhohassupport-ed them during this difficult time.

“They are overwhelmed by thegenerosity the community hasshown,” said Jones.

If you are able to offer assistanceor if you need more information, callthe SACan helpdesk number on086 162 3646.

THE vestibular apparatus is associ-ated with the inner ear (organ ofhearing).

It controls the balance of theanimal. It does this by sensing themovement of fluid in three semicir-cular canalas, each one oriented at90 degrees to the others.

At the base of these canals arelittle hairs that send signals to thebrain about rotation of the head,

thereby guiding the movement ofthe eyes and actions of the muscles.

At the base of these three canalsare two additional fluid- and gel-filled areas, called theUTRICLEandtheSACCULE,whichwork in a simi-lar fashion to sense accelerationforces and gravity.

Less is understood about howthis works, and it is a fairly complexinteraction between physics, and

physiology.Disease of the vestibular appara-

tus normally occurs in older dogswhich get “Old dog vestibulitis”,which is often erroneously diag-nosed and described as a “stroke”.

The pet has a sudden head tilt, flicking of the eyes (nystagmus) andsometimes severe balance prob-lems and nausea. The more severecases may need hospitalisation to

treat them, much like attacks of thehuman Meniere’s disease.

The problem tends to recur in af-fected animals, and may leave re-sidual neurological deficits, butmost dogs recover within a fewdays to a week.

A common cause of balance is-sues is medication inserted into theear canal when the eardrum is notintact, or ear cleaning procedures.

BREAKING: in a move called“dumb and incredibly dan-gerous”, members of the

South African government who sitin executive positions have taken aunanimous vote to “tell the truth atall costs”.

The decision allegedly material-ised after an international billion-aire funder–who will remain anon-ymous until some random 12-year-old hacks official emails – is said to

have pledged $1 million for each“truth” told in parliament and atpublic rallies and conferences.

The move comes after the billion-aire allegedly had the revelationwhile beating his head against abrick wall at the outcome of SouthAfrica’s recent national election.

Such was the enthusiasm of thenation’s public servants to “get in-volved and make a difference”through “Truthgate” that for the firsttime in its recorded history, all rep-resentatives stayed awake duringthe latest parliamentary sitting tovote. This included an 85-year-oldpolitical veteran who was allegedlyin a coma for the past 20 years.

Speaking after the voting session, one official started tallying on hisfingers while telling the floor: “Com-rades, I am happy with the outcomeof the vote because it grates mybiscuit to sit here and lie about hav-

ing amaster’s degree in politics. I amjust a failed chef with a KFC fetish.

Also, I am sick of calling everyonecomrade; it’svery1994.” Asecondof-ficial then took to the floor and, pro-ducing an abacus from her Pradahandbag, stated: “Fellow country-men andwomen, I am excited at thepotential upliftment that can beachieved through Truthgate.

“Finally I have a chance to tell myconstituents that an overflowingsewage pipe alongside a crèche isnot a health hazard – it is an oppor-tunity for the community to pull to-gether and shovel the sh*t them-

selves. The sh*t can then be used asa nice compost on the communityvegetable garden that we may buildfor them in 2016 or 2017.

“In the interim, the shovelled sh*tcan be placed next to the rounda-bout and slide as a little climbingmountain for kiddies.”

Speaking from uMhlanga aftertaking her vote via Skype during abotox party, oneofficialtoldtheFever:“Thepotential ramificationsofTruth-gate are enormous and heartening.

“With Truthgate comes the op-portunity to finally meet ourmillen-nium development goals – the onesthat have been slightly tweaked forour area. Truthgate finally gives methe opportunity to satisfy my Messi-ah complex and to emulate Oprahby canvassing among themiddle andworking classes. I now feel no shamein donning my latex gloves so I cangive sales assistants and domestic

workers a controlled pat on theircheap clothing. In fact, I can nowunashamedly utilise public funds tobook a five-star retreat and take po-tential future school-girl voters fromthe street there in order to givethem free manicures and pedicures.

“Looking good while you are get-ting educated can go a long way inbuilding a girlchild’s prospects - thisway she can marry rich and willhopefully never have to think inde-pendently again. You get one, I getone,we all get freemanis and pedis.”

UPDATE: The billionaire funderhas since clarified that he will bepaying those partaking in Truthgatein the Zimbabwean dollar, a defunctcurrency. People interviewed forthis article have since denied anyknowledge of Truthgate or makingthe above statements.

SELOKHU ngamazi umngane wami, uNyikiny-ibhoxo umfo kaNdosi, bengiqala ukumbonaethukuthele ngalendlela yokuthi abamlamu-

lile ethi uqeda umfundisi ngepayipi engingazi ukuthiubelithathephi, bamane basho ngaphandle koku-nanaza ukuthi kukhulu okumcasulile.

Sicela wena mfundi ukuthi emva kokufundaloludaba, usitshele ukuthi bekuyinto engelutho yiniecasule uNdosi, noma yinto ebingakucasula nawe.Okuphawulekile nje kumfundisi wabantu obesegxi-za igazi emlonyeni sekuqaqeke nokhololo amahloniesedlala ngaye, ngamazwi athi: “Bengithi ngiyazin-cokolela nje noNdosi ngingazi ukuthi kanti sengiyo-na.”

Amadoda ebandla abeseduze kusuka isidumoabelokhu ethi: “Kodwa kwake kwancokolwa ngom-fazi womuntu kanje? Uphahlukile nje kwaphela.”

Uma esho lamadoda athi umfundisi uyilahlengokuncokola ngokuma kahle komkaNdosi wathi:“Cha wakhetha Ndosi, imanzi eme kahle kanje!” Ak-abonakalanga ukuthi unyamalale nini uNdosi.Ubonakale esedonsa umfundisi ngogesi wempamakwalandela isibhakela esidabule udebe nolimi, anele angena phakathi kwabo amadoda elamula, wathi qalaqala egcekeni, wathi nya, wabuya en-gasadle nkobe zamuntu ephefumulela phezuluephethe ipayipi elokhu ethi: “Umkami!, umkami!,uthi umfaz’wami unjani? Bhlati shidi man!”

Kungenzeka ukuthi inceku yeNkosi ibizincokolelangempela, kodwa yagawula ingakalanga. Lokhukuyisexwayiso kulabo abakhonze ukuncokola.

Sengathi kufanele umuntu aqikelele ngaphambikokuncokola. Kusemqoka ukuthi aqale abheke uku-thi uncokola kanjani, nobani, nini kunokuthi amaneancokole nje noma yikanjani. Kufana ncamashinokuwela umgwaqo ungalibhekanga irobhothibese kwenzeka isiphihli sengozi engase idlule nemi-phefumulo.

Basuke bengahhemi laba abake bathi kungconoukuthula abantu bangakwazi ukuthi ucabangani, kunokuthi uvule isitolo esingezansi kwekhala besebeqala ukukungabaza. Naye uNyikinyibhoxo lo,wake wathi: “Njengoba kuthiwa izinto zoniwangomlomo zilungiswe ngomlomo, kungcono kabiukuthula ngoba akukho lutho okuzodigeka uku-lungise, uzithole usunenkinga uma usuhluleka uku-kulungisa.”

Le sihloko sokuncokola nokuphahluka bengih-lele ukubhala ngaso emasontweni ezayo, kodwanginele ngezwa ngokunhlanhlatha kukaMnuz Vis-vin Reddy ongusihlalo we-ANC eChatsworth ening-izimu yeTheku, ngase nginquma ukubhala ngaso

namahlanje. Cishe abaningi sebeyazi ukuthi lo nkabiobuye achazwe ngamanye amaNdiya akubo njengonontandakubukwa noma ithatha, kubikwe ukuthiubhale kwi-facebook wathi isizwe sakubo siyat-handa ukukhononda. Imibiko ithi uqhube wathiabanye kuzomele baphindele kwelaseNdiya bayo-bona ukuthi khona kuphilwa kanzima kanjani blahblah blah.

Unele wabona ukuthi udlale ngegeja kuziliwe, wathi ubezikhulumela yena hhayi njengomholi we-ANC. Ayichithanga sikhathi i-ANC yammisa esik-hundleni sakhe, wabe esexolisa. Asazi noma uben-cokola yini noma ubezama ukuveza ukuhlakanipha.Okusemqoka ukuthi uphahlukile. Ugawule engaka-langa. Namhlanje immimisile le nhlangano ayeyigx-eka kugigitheke yena kuqala esayilungu le-MinorityFront, uma kunemihlangano yomkhandlu wama-khansela aseThekwini. Siyasincoma isinqumo se-ANC sokummisa ngoba itshengise ukuthi isuke iqini-sile uma ithi akekho umuntu okufanele acwasweeNingizimu Afrika. Akobe bayasithola isifundo laboabathanda ukudlisela ngokucwasa abantu bakubo, nabathanda ukubheda bethi bayancokola.

Ngelinye ilanga kusazodingeka sibonisane ngal-aba abashayela izinhlelo emicimbini, abagijimelaamancoko abawezwa kwabanye abantu kodwabangawazwisisa bese bezama ukuwasebenzisa ku-mane kungahleki muntu bese bedumala. Ang-isayiphathike eyalaba abakholwa wukuthi incokolikitaza uma linenhlamba phakathi kuphela.

A LOVING HOME THATREFLECTS SOUTH AFRICANDIVERSITYConsider adoption as an option.South Africa is a country with 11 official languages, hundreds of cultural groups and numerous recognisedreligions. Every day, families everywhere are mixing upthese ingredients to create this multi-wonderful nation thatwe know and love.

If you are thinking of adoption, have you consideredadopting a child from a different race or culture? Childrenare just children, no matter their biological background, and all children need a loving home.

Start your journey today by learning the facts withAdd-option, South Africa’s first national adoptionresource centre.

“There is a big difference between the idea of cross-culturaladoption, and actually taking a little boy or girl into yourhome. We didn’t adopt an idea, we adopted Jenna! Andfrom the first moment she has been the love of our lives, exactly the same as a proud mom and dad would reach outfor their biological baby at the hospital. The only differenceis that she wasn’t born from our womb, but from our hearts.”
