Cedarbrook Volunteers are Very Important People As we all work through this difficult me in our lives, wai ng to know how we will move forward a er this pandemic, one thing I am always certain of, is our dedicated volunteers. I know you have been concerned about our residents and staff. You have taken the me to call or email us to check in and wish us good health and safety. You have checked our Facebook page and given us your support. Our residents and staff have missed you all so much. Your contact and caring during this me was so deep‐ly appreciated by everyone at Cedarbrook. We have always known that we need each other. Now we need to act. As we reopen we will need every one of you. I ask each of you to please con nue in the programs you were helping and consider trying something new as well. Encourage your family or friends to volunteer with you. We are working hard to get all of our program’s and ac vi es up and running. You will find we have rescheduled some events. Please help us make 2020 a great year for the residents of Cedarbrook.
To quote Helen Keller: “The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.”
Here are some ways you can help as we reopen our ac vi es.
We are looking for Fishing Volunteers! We will be holding our Annual Fishing ac vity in late Septem‐ber. Experience is required and the desire to have some good old fashioned fun! Sign up for a 2‐hour morning or a ernoon shi . This is a Fountain Hill and Allentown Event. Fountain Hill Residents will be bused to our Allentown Campus where fishing will take place in our well‐stocked brook.
Transport volunteers are needed. There is also a great need for volunteers to transport residents to in‐house appointments and ac vi es at both loca ons, days, evenings, and weekends. Help with our pro‐grams is always greatly appreciated and lots of fun too.
Would you like to bring color and joy into someone’s life? Volunteers are needed for Color & Chat. This will be every Monday morning 10:00‐11:00 in Allentown. You would assist ge ng residents to our auditorium, hand out the supplies, and just visit and assist as needed during the ac vity. Easy and fun, but so important to our residents.
Would you like to bring music and joy into someone’s life? Volunteers are needed for our Music Mak‐ers program. This will be every Thursday morning 9:30‐11:30 in Allentown. You would assist ge ng residents to our auditorium, hand out the supplies, and just sing a happy song and assist as needed during the ac vity. Easy and fun, but so important to our residents. No singing ability required, just a desire to have a great me.
I hope to see you all very soon. Please keep in touch.
Check your calendar; see if you have a few hours you could volunteer to help at Cedarbrook. Our resi‐dents and staff would love to have your help, contact me at 610‐336‐5684, kerrymagli‐[email protected] to sign up.

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. In the US, more calls are made on Mother’s Day than any other day. Most of the calls are to thank mom for her loving care. But on Father’s Day calls are made by sons and daughters who re-member how their fathers helped them out financially.
Over ten years ago my dad Albert George Bartholomew passed away at 92 from a bout with pneumonia. He had suffered from dementia too, and it was mentally and emotionally sad to watch this vibrant, intelli-gent and incredibly warm man slip away into the darkness. He was truly loved by many, and remembered as a helpful, gentle, affectionate man who always had a kind word and was optimistic and enthusiastic. He could befriend anyone and enter into a conversation with them. His mind set was something like, “If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.”
I’m reminded of the incredible responsibility fathers have—and of the great privilege too. In 1 Thessaloni-ans 2:10-12, Paul talks about how he and the other apostles’ roles were similar to a father. They compare themselves to a loving father who trains his children by example and by verbal instruction. This way godly integrity is passed on both at home and in the church. He states: “You know how we exhorted, and com-forted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children.”
Paul taught the entire church publicly, but he also met individually or in small groups for further instruc-tion with the men he was discipling. “Exhorted, comforted, and charged” are somewhat overlapping, but there are nuances of difference. There is not a “one size fits all” approach. Rather, a wise spiritual father discerns where each spiritual child is at and tailors his approach accordingly.
Some need exhortation, which refers to challenging or appealing to live godly. It is easy for fathers to think that all that’s required of them is to bring home a paycheck. But children need their close interaction to move them forward.
The word comforted is to console, to speak tender words to comfort them, while urging them to be faithful. Nothing is more valuable to a child than the time given by a father to listen and talk. Without continually relating to reassure, relationships can turn cold.
The third word, charged means imploring. It’s the strongest of the three words, implying a loving warning that a course correction is needed. Also, fathers challenge their children by confirming the truth of God’s Word, as they live it out in front of them. And even in failings, they affirm what is right through the asking of forgiveness.
Paul uses the analogy of a loving father to convey how they used these different approaches. Every aware father knows that his children are different. Some need a stern word or they won’t even hear you. But if you give a stern word to a more sensitive child, she may break into tears. But every father should be loving and firm, seeking to help each child become all that God wants that child to be.
Some people were talking about what translation of the Bible they thought was the best. One person was silent for a time during the discussion, as he thought about it. Then he said, “I guess when it comes to translations of the Bible, I like my Dad’s translation the best. Because he tried to put the Word of God into practice, each day. It was the most convincing translation that I’ve seen.”
God knows the responsibilities and joys of fatherhood because He’s our heavenly Father. And as our Fa-ther He will give us what we need.

That for just $1.00 you can be a member of the
Fountain Hill Auxiliary? YES, JUST $1.00!!! You can
meet friends and rela ves of our residents and help us
in any way you choose to enrich their lives. Our
mee ngs are the 3rd Tuesday of each month at
1:00pm.
Although we discourage residents from keeping money and valuables in their room, we realize that many of you will choose to do so. Therefore, we would like to offer these tips to help you keep your money and valuables safe from loss or theft. Since you have access to the money in your account during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, we suggest that you only withdraw the amount you need for immediate use. If you need larger sums of money, for gifts or to reimburse your family members for purchases made on your behalf, we suggest that you contact Financial Services to arrange for payment by check. If you choose to keep money and valuables in your room, we highly recommend that you secure such items in the locked drawer of your bedside cabinet. Keep your key with you, or keep your key out of sight in a safe place. As soon as you realize that your money or property is missing, it is important to report it immediately to the Charge Nurse. Cedarbrook will not assume responsibility for replacing missing property kept by residents on their person or in their room. However, we will take action to investigate. And try to recover your property, if possible. Finally, we ask that you help us maintain a current inventory of your personal property. Any property that you pur-chase or receive during your stay should be added to your Valuables Received after Admission Form, including a description of the property. This information is essential when trying to locate missing items.
