APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR Please ensure for your child’s safety and physical development that they wear appropriate shoes to school everyday. Slips ons and scuffs are inappropriate unsafe and not part of the school uniform. SCHOOL HOLIDAYS School holidays start this Friday 23 rd September. MEASUREMENT DAY

On Tuesday students from Years 1 to 6 participated in a Measurement Day. Classes rotated through 3 activities involving measuring, capacity, length, volume, area, length and time.

All activities were hands on and the children thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Captain and Prefect Elections for 2012 Those Year 5 students who wish to be considered for Captains and Prefects in 2012 have been asked to nominate themselves for election by 21st October (Week 2 Term 4) The selection process is as follows - In 2012 there will be a Girl Captain and a Boy Captain and a Girl Prefect and a Boy Prefect. Step 1 Self nomination—end week 2 term 4 to Mrs Chambers Step 2—Speeches Week 3 Term 4 Monday morning assembly —girls Tuesday morning assembly—boys Nominees are asked to give a 2 to 3 minute speech explaining to the other students their reasons/aspirations and qualities for school captain/prefect. Students from Year 2 to Year 6 will attend speeches and are involved in the voting process. Step 3 Preferential voting will be used to determine the successful candidates from a secret ballot held on Wednesday 26th October. Step 4 Successful captains and prefects will be announced at Presentation Day on Friday 2nd December. Any questions can be directed to Mrs Chambers. Presentation Day Awards Criteria Dux of the School To determine Dux of Hillvue Public School, all children in Year 6 will complete assessment tasks in Literacy, Numeracy and other Key Learning Areas. The students will be ranked according to their combined assessment results.

Sportsperson Criteria A Year 6 child at Hillvue Public School Represented the North West in Sport Shown exemplary sportsmanship (when

representing the school) Submit a resume his/her sporting endeavours in

2011 and submit to Mr Courtney by Friday 4th November.

School Executive will determine the recipient. Outstanding Student Award Criteria A Year 6 student at Hillvue Public School Shown outstanding/excellent attitude and

application to his/her work throughout the year. School Executive to decide the eventual recipient. Academic P and C Blues For a child to qualify for a blue they must have received a minimum of 3 credits, or a distinction or a high distinction in Australian Schools Competition. For Cultural For a student to qualify for a blue they must have represented the school in a minimum of 3 different cultural events e.g. Capers, Public Speaking, Eisteddfod, Chess. For Sporting For a student to qualify for a blue they must have represented individually in a North West Team or represented the school team at a Regional Championship. Boys Knockout Touch Results The Hillvue Boys Touch Knockout team travelled to Gunnedah last week to complete Round 4 of their respective knockout. Hillvue played Gunnedah South in a great match but unfortunately were defeated in extra time 6 to 5. The team is to be congratulated on their sportsmanship and efforts on the day. Thank you to Mr James for coaching the team and Mel Craigie for managing and travelling with the team.
