uden's Col is an mountain pass
which connects Jogin I (6,465m)
and Gangotri III (6580m) peaks and
is reportedly situated at a height of around
5,400m. It also binds two glaciers on the
opposite sides. One is Khatling glacier and
the other one is the glacier thatbelongs to
Jogin I. Auden's Col is approachable from
Gangotri and you can trek up to Kedarnath
following Auden's Col and Khatling glacier.
Auden's Col gets its name from J B Auden,
who first crossed it in 1940. Mayali Pass is
also a high altitude mountain pass situated
at 17,000ft.
This trek takes one through both the passes
and crosses pristine high altitude
Himalayan meadows and untouched alpine
forests. In Spring & Summer, these
meadows burst with life, showing off
colorful flowers unique to the region.
This is also an ideal trek, almost a
pilgrimage, if you will, for those of you
with a spiritual calling. This journey takes
you through two of North India’s most
famous temples – Gangotri, the birth place
of Holy Ganges and Kedarnath, dedicated
to Lord Shiva.
Come to the Stairway to Heaven (w.
apologies to Led Zepellin!)
Come to Auden’s Col – Mayali Pass.

More FAQ …
Q: Who can do this trek?
A: This is a moderate- hard trek. You
must have completed at least one trek
at an altitude of 16,000 ft. You should
have the strength of a mule to carry a
rucksack of 12 kg for 5-7 hours a day.
Previous experience in rock climbing
and rappelling can be helpful.
Please bring along a fitness certificate
from your doctor!
Q: What should I carry?
A: The following items are a must:
2 lt. (64 oz.) water bottle
A sun hat and sun shades
Good trekking shoes – Not your
regular Nike, Puma, Adidas,
Reebok. You don’t want to be
trekking with blisters on your
feet. Ouch!
o We can help you pick a
good pair, if you wish
A toilet kit
1 Torch with spare batteries
Loads of enthusiasm, great
attitude & energy – Climbing is a
team sport & your good energy
will rub off on the others & vice-
versa
A good rucksack
Q: What NOT to do?
A: Our treks are of course fun, but we
have fun responsibly. We are sensitive
to the environment – no littering. We
also enjoy the silence and therefore we
do not shout and scare away the birds
& animals. Remember, this is not
tourism – we are passionate trekkers
and we want to keep coming back.
Q: What food do you provide?
A: Simple vegetarian food. Nothing
extravagant, nor will you sleep on an
empty stomach. Know this … You WILL
be (very) hungry, your senses will be
heightened, and anything served will
taste like Gourmet Cuisine! .
Q: How can I prepare myself?
A: Train your Legs & Lungs!
- Practice carrying approx 50-60 lb
weights in a backpack up 30-40
flights of stairs if you’re in a
high-rise building.
- Take daily exercise with short
bursts of high-intensity exertion
followed by mild jogs or walks.
- Hit the gym or even better, do
some smaller hikes or treks
where you live, or with us.
Q: How cold does it get?
A: It depends on where you come from,
but from an Indian context – it can get
quite cold. The temperature in the
higher regions can touch -2 degrees at
night. So be prepared and carry warm
clothing. Although multiple layers will
serve the purpose, it can get quite
heavy and uncomfortable. Your best
bet would be to buy a professional high
altitude jacket.
