Winter nights are closing in, so here comes the annual Mr Mac reminder that board games are still a great family learning event! As well as encouraging literacy/numeracy and thinking skills, they are a wonderful way to learn how to be a good winner and/or loser! Make a date for the long weekend this weekend! Ngā mihi nui Dean.
A special Hinuera welcome to… Edward Jeffries Room 2 Lucas Reece-Eriepa Room 8
Matamata Community of Learning
It was lovely last Tuesday to welcome the
four “Across Schools” teachers who have
been appointed to support learning devel-
opments to see Hinuera School in action,
and get a feel for learning in local schools.
They loved seeing how our programmes
run.
Winter Bugs Just a reminder that with many winter
colds and tummy bugs now being about,
please keep children home if they are not
well. In particular, please remember that
we are not allowed to have children back
at school after vomiting bugs until they
have been clear of vomiting for 24 hours.
Many thanks for your support with this.
Cotter Cup Day
A much better weather day for Cotter Cup
Day this year! Well done to all the teams
for their excellent effort and behaviour.
We didn’t have any first places on the day,
but we were very close in several, with
second placings in rugby, netball and hock-
ey. With so many schools involved it isn’t
easy to win, but that just makes it all the
sweeter the times we do! In the meantime
it is great to see our Hinni Kids giving it
everything and representing the school so
well. True Hinni Kid resilience!
Below are a couple of pictures of our rugby lads,
the first obviously before the game given the
pristine nature of their uniforms!
Recent Staff Appointments The Board of Trustees are pleased to an-
nounce that Mrs Deborah Sadler has been
appointed to teach in R5 while Lisa War-
render is completing her study award for
her Masters in Education during terms 3
and 4. Lisa will return to finish off the year
on 27/11/17. We look forward to welcom-
ing Mrs Sadler to the Hinuera teaching
team for this period.
We also want to congratulate Marie
Whaley, who has been appointed to our
Community of Learning “Within School”
role. This means she will work with our
school leadership and staff to lead and co-
ordinate ways we can develop our own
classroom practice, work with our other
local schools to find ways we can be even
better at what we do, and share things
that are working well for us with others.
School Disco On Friday 9th June the PTA are organising
a school disco. Please check the Commu-
nity Notices on the opposite page for all
the details.
Upcoming Assemblies Tomorrow R5 are sharing at our weekly
assembly – 2.30pm. Then next week it is a
Kiwanis Club of Matamata certificate
presentation assembly, Friday 9th June,
2.30pm. All welcome to both. There will
likely be a short assembly on Thursday 15
June, 2.30pm. That is the day before
Teacher Only Day. No class sharing that
week
Dental Clinic Visit
The Mobile Dental Unit will be at Hinuera
School from Monday 19 June. If you would
like a family appointment please contact
the clinic on 888 5202 or phone 0800 825
583. These appointments are held at the
Community Dental Clinic in Matamata.
If you have pre-schoolers/other children at
school a family appointment reinforces the
oral health message as a family unit. Fami-
ly appointments are preferred for parental
support/child wellbeing.
If your child brings forms home saying they
require further treatment an appointment
is needed at the Community Dental Clinic.
Please contact the clinic promptly on 888
5202 or 0800 825 583 to ensure treatment
is completed in a timely manner.
Matamata Dental Team
School Closed A reminder that the school will be closed
Monday 5th June for Queen’s Birthday and
also on Friday 16th June for Field Days Fri-
day. Teachers will all be involved in a Com-
munity of Learning training day at Mata-
mata College on that day. We expect all
children at school on the Wednesday and
Thursday for normal programmes, and ask
that if you are taking children to Field
Days, that you do this on the Friday. Many
thanks for your support with this.
NEiTA Awards 2017
The National Excellence in Teaching
Awards run every second year. Community
members are able to nominate teachers
they believe do an amazing job with their
children, so that will probably be all of
ours! If you would like to nominate any of
our staff you can do this easily at
www.asg.com.au/nz/neita
Student Writing Room 2 students have been talking about autumn. They have created some won-derfully colourful leaf pictures along with some lovely descriptive writing. Here are a few little gems for you to enjoy … My leaf is amazing. It crunches like a crunchie bar. It crawled slowly to the ground like a beautiful little kitty cat. By Evie Collins
I found a brown leaf and it makes a crunchy sound. It flew down like a rocket ship and it felt rough. By Myla de Jong I have a spotty orange leaf. It twirled down to the ground like a ballerina. By Tilly Hopkins My leaf is brown. It makes a loud crunchy sound. It went fast like a motorbike. By Riley Lovett
Room 5 have been recalling their best-ever birthday parties. Sounds like our Hinni kids have had some magical mo-ments to remember ...
On the 26th of December I had the most amaz-ing birthday party ever! It was at home and my mum made the cake. It was an Elsa cake! Mum put on the Elsa song and we played pass the parcel .It was fun! I wore my favourite dress of all. The cake tasted super yummy and I had reddy, pinky, sparkly candles! When I opened my presents my Poppy got me a diary that you can lock with a special key and he bought me a sticker pony. By Honor-May Brewster
In 2016 when I was seven I had the most amazing birthday party. We went to Chip-munks. I took Kyle and Liam. Charlotte took Lucy and Olivia. I loved it because there were awesome guns and slides. I got hit by a ball. I

had a rugby birthday cake. We got some sticks and made a goal post. Then we got some dough and put some cocoa in to make a ball. We iced the cake green like grass. Then we had the cake. I got a race car set and a sky ripper from Kyle. That was the greatest birthday ever. By Corey Bell In January I woke up and I was very excited. My mum and dad were already up. I opened all my presents. I thought that was them all but there was another one. It was a bike. It was a stunt bike. It had both brakes and suspension. It was the best birthday ever.
