HIPIS Vol.01 2019.06.01 H ot I nfo P aper for I nternational S tudents Hello, everyone. Welcome to the world of HIPIS. This is the 1st edition of our “Hot Info Paper for International Students”. Just call it HIPIS!! We would like to introduce many, many things related to Japanese things or topics on this paper, and we hope that your eyes will be glued on them!! Hello, friend!! This corner introduces your co-students and our first guest is Chen Zhi san, from China. He is now in his 4th year of a Ph.D. course and he is in the Department of Pharmacology. Hi Chen san, thank you for coming today. First, you like to be called “Alex”. Right? 1. Why do Chinese people often have an English-sounding second name? “For foreign people, our original Chinese names are too difficult to pronounce correctly. In my case, I have been called “Alex” by English-speaking teachers since elementary school. So, I got used to this way of how non-Chinese speaking friends call me. ” 2. OK, then, what was your first impression when coming to Izumo? “When I came to Izumo for the first time from Tokyo by overnight bus, the sunrise over Lake Shinji caught my eyes and soul. Though I might have been accustomed to life in metropolitan areas, the spectacular scenery made me so moved that I was looking forward to a new life in the beautiful countryside- Izumo. ” 3. Wow, it moved me a lot too, and next, what’s your favorite Japanese food? “When I was in China, sushi was the most famous food known by us. But it was costly. Luckily, in Japan, we can enjoy delicious sushi at inexpensive prices while watching the chefs make sushi professionally and aesthetically over the counter. ”
