Saint Sophia Cathedral warmly welcomes: His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Antinoes, Proistamenos of St. Theodore's, Lanham MD on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, following the 6:00 PM Presanctified Liturgy for an inspiring Lenten talk entitled: "Why did Christ have to Die for us" A Lenten dinner will be served. His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon is Archbishop of the Holy Metropolis of Pelusion (Port Said), Egypt, of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa. Born Georgios Efthymios Lampadarios on the Greek island of KALYMNOS on May 14 th , 1955, his Eminence in 1958 immigrated to the USA at the age of three with his parents Pantelis and Kalliope. From 1958 until September, 1968, he lived in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut, receiving his American citizenship in 1966. In September 1968, he returned to Greece with his parents. He was tonsured a monk in 1975, ordained deacon in 1980, and priest in 1983. During his years as an Orthodox missionary to the people of Ghana, his Eminence established over 25 schools and churches. On November 23 rd , 1999, the late Pope and Patriarch PETROS VII and the members of the Holy Synod unanimously elected him the first Bishop of the newly established Greek Orthodox Diocese of Ghana, which includes the following countries: Gambia, Côte d' Ivoire, Liberia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso. On October 24 th , 2004, Pope and Patriarch THEODOROS II and the members of the Holy Synod unanimously elected him the new Metropolitan of the Holy Metropolis of Pelusion (Port Said) – Egypt. Metropolitan Panteleimon is a graduate of the RIZARIOS Seminary in Greece, and holds an Honors Degree in Theology from the CAPODISTRIAN University of Athens Department of Theology (with three distinctions). He also holds a Masters Degree in Classics (Greek) form the RAND AFRICANS UNIVERSITY of Johannesburg, South Africa (with high distinction), and a Diploma in Computer Programs from ANKO.
