WORLD-CLASS GIVING The Mading Society was established in 1997 by the University of Houston College of Pharmacy to recognize individual and corporate donors committed to advancing clinical and research excellence in the Greater Houston Region, across the nation and around the globe. LEGACY OF CARE The Mading Society was named in memory of Cora and Webb Mading, the first major benefactors of the college. Reagan Webb Mading was born in East Texas in 1887. He was a registered pharmacist and owned 12 drugstores, the largest independent drugstore chain in Houston at the time. Upon his death in 1953, the Mading estate bequeathed $20,000 to the fledgling UH College of Pharmacy. He was also known for his love of children and insisted that they be treated as courteously as any adult customer. In 1959, Houston’s newest grade school was named in his honor: Mading Elementary School. His self-made success, legendary kindness and commitment to higher education inspired the Mading Society. in tHe CoMMunityAs a Mading Society member, you will not only contribute to healthcare advances across the globe, you will support healthcare outreach across Houston. UH Pharmacy students provide care to the underserved and unique patient populations, including summer camps for special needs children and diabetic patients, clinics for the homeless, and medication reviews and wellness screenings for senior citizens and other members of the community. In Fall 2012 alone, UHCOP students provided more than 2,300 seasonal flu immunizations and 3,000 wellness services, such as blood pressure checks, glucose screenings and diabetic foot exams.

for tHe futureAs the College of Pharmacy garners more national recognition and higher rankings, it is crucial that UH provide the technology, faculty and learning environments that motivate the next generation of healthcare professionals; lead the next wave of research breakthroughs; and ensure the next step on our Tier One journey.
