HISTORICBRIDGE,FOUNTAINGREET

CAPIZTAHANVISITORS

The 103-year-old bridge and the 88-year-old fountain, two of Roxas City’s major landmarks, will greet this year’s CAPIZTAHAN guests in their new looks. Those coming from other provinces for the first time will soon marvel at these city plaza structures particularly during the celebra-

tion of CAPIZTAHAN. Passing the bridge from the north sec-tion will keep visitors head turning on the blooming bougain-villeas on the river banks of the Panay in the heart of the city. The river, which is more enhanced during high tide, gave the City of Roxas the title “the Venice of Panay.” The river and the sprouting waters of the city fountain comple-ment each other in giving commuters and pedestrians a cooling effect necessary during the hot summer heat.

Visiting photo journalists coming to the city for the first time, passing this portion of the city, never failed to appreci-ate the beauty of these man-made sructures that gave the city plaza a pleasant scenario for tourists, both domestic and foreign. With the city’s Immaculate Conception Metro-politan Cathedral, the City Hall, the Paseo de Catedral, the old historic City Band Stand, the City Tourist Information Assistance Center, the City fountain/rotunda, the Provincial Capitol, the newly renovated Balay Kapisnon, the Presiden-tial Monument, and the city’s Ang Panubli-on Museum on its vicinity, and the nearby ancestral house of President Manuel Roxas at the corner of Rizal-Zamora streets, the whole area becomes a strategic and appropriate spot for historical and a cultural walking tour for tourists arriving or traveling in groups.

In effect, a walking tour has been readied by the City Tourism Promotion and Development Office after a sub-stantial number of participants joined last years’ walking
