FROM THE DESK OF, FR. THOMAS KOYS, M.A.,S.T.L., PASTOR

FROM MEDITATION ON THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY INTO HEAVEN

By Ven. Mary of Agreda (17th century mystic Spanish sister) Gabriel greeted Mary with these words: "The Lord sends us to announce to thee in His name the happy end of thy pilgrimage up on earth. Exactly three years from today thou shalt be taken up and received into the everlasting joy of Heaven." During the last days of her life, Jesus visited His Mother more often than before.

On the morning of her last day, the Blessed Virgin sum-moned the Apostles and disciples and Holy Women to the Cenacle. They were all deeply moved as they quietly gath-er around her. With sad hearts they gazed for the last time at the holy Mother of their God: she was as poor and hum-ble and lovely as ever. They noticed an extraordinary celes-tial light that seemed to enfold her. Then, after a moment's recollection, the Blessed Virgin said to all who were pre-sent:

"Dearest children, I have loved you with that tender love and charity which was given to me by my divine Son, whom I have seen in you, His chosen friends. My children, love the Church and love one another." Jesus appeared to her and said: "My dearest Mother, the hour has come in which thou art to pass into the glory of My Father. And since, by My power and as My Mother, I have caused thee to enter the world exempt from sin, therefore also death shall have no right to touch thee at thy exit from this world. If thou wishest not to pass through it, come with Me now to partake of My glory, which thou hast merited."

But Mary joyfully replied: "My Son and my Lord, Thou didst suffer death without being obliged to do so. It is prop-er therefore that as I have tried to follow Thee in life, so I follow Thee also in death." Then, while a number of an-gels hovered about her, and the choir of angels and archan-gels with singing the verses of the Canticle: "Behold, my beloved speaketh to me 'Arise make haste, my love, my dove, my beautiful one and come, the winter has passed…’" Mary whispered "Into Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit."

On the day of the funeral, the Apostles took up the bier and bore it in a solemn procession from the Cenacle to the tomb in the Valley of Josaphat, near the Garden of Geth-semane. However, immediately after Mary's death, Our Lord petitioned His Father, "Eternal Father, it is right that to My Mother be given the reward of a Mother. And since during all her life and in all her works she was as like to Me as it is possible for a creature to be, let her also be like to Me in glory and on the throne of Our Majesty. "

Meanwhile, on the morning of Mary's Assumption into heaven, St. Peter and St. John had been watching and pray-ing at her tomb. Suddenly they noticed that the music of the angels had ceased. Looking up at the sky, the two Apostles were partly enlightened by the Holy Spirit and

guessed that the Blessed Virgin's body might have been taken up to Heaven by God. As they were debating wheth-er to open the tomb, St. Thomas arrived from the Orient. When they told him that Mary was already dead, he burst into tears and earnestly begged them to allow him to have one last look at the Mother of his Lord. Peter and John con-sented and proceeded to open the tomb. John and Thomas went in and reverently knelt down in prayer. Then John stood up, while Thomas held aloft a torch. There was noth-ing on the bier but Mary's robe and mantle.

Blessed Mother of Good Success, what great love Thou had shown to Thy privileged daughter and con-fidante, the Servant of God, Mother Mariana Francisca de Jesus Torres in the days of her mortal life. Now, through her intercession, attain for us from Our Lord Jesus Christ the grace we are asking. (Mention request) Grant, too, the extraordinary favor of seeing her raised to the honor of the altars in the not too distant future, so that the Church may count on a

powerful intercessor who will save us from the physical, moral and social evils that threaten our lives and bring us to the brink of despair. Save us with Thy prayers and Thy long-proven love for Thy children who have recourse to Thee. (Mention request).

OUR FATHER, HAIL MARY, AND GLORY BE Plan to come to Sag Hall after 7pm Mass Thursday, Aug. 15th, to view a video on Our Lady of Good Success. This approved apparition contains incredibly accurate prophe-sies from Our Lady from 1611 about the times we are in today. Do miss it.

We were able to put in a new generation for the rec-tory. This bad boy is more important than you might think, because our church experiences more power outages than the normal home. Thanks to all who donate!

Many thanks to the nearly fifty St. James parishioners who gave up two hours of a beautiful summer Saturday to sit in (a very warm) Sag Hall on Aug 3 and discuss the possible “Scenarios” for recon-figuring the Lemont parishes. This meeting was held in advance of the August 7 meeting of Lemont pastors where actual Scenarios began to take shape. Fr. Koys was interested in understanding first hand our parishioners thoughts and concerns, and he fielded many excellent questions.

Also on August 3, three members of the St. Alphonsus team met with three members of the St. James team and Fr. Koys for additional information and perspective sharing. The last of these one-on-one parish lunch meetings will be held on August 10 when our team will welcome the St. Pat-rick’s team.

The Grouping teams from the four parishes will meet on August 13 in Sag Hall. The next important date for all parishioners is August 20. All are invited to hear the Scenarios as they will have taken shape at that time.

A PRAYER FOR RENEW MY CHURCH

Lord Jesus, you speak to us today, as you spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, you call to

us and say: Renew My Church. Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us to hear you clearly, to listen to each other attentively,

to imagine our future boldly, to discern your direction wisely, to perse-vere in your holy will courageously, to stay together in charity, to surren-der our own plans readily, to embrace the greater good, to hand on your gifts to future generations. May we remain in the holy company of the

Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of your

grace. We ask this of you who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Amen
