Chandigarh History is what that takes up to the reason for the present origination of this city of Chandigarh and reason that set up this city as the capital of the province of Punjab.

After the Independence of India on the day of 15th August 1947, Punjab was divided into two halves. One retained in India and is without a capital at that time and one goes in Pakistan. Having lots its own meaning of word after partition. At that time Shimla was selected as a temporary capital for the state of Punjab. A very talented engineer was selected by the Punjab Government to find an absolute capital for the province of Punjab.

During that hard time it was necessary to set up a permanent capital for the province of Punjab as after Independence it is necessary to make a hub to control all the activities in Punjab. Politicians also gathered up and suggested the cities from where they had come from to be the capital of the state, unseeing the other benefits and disadvantage of making it a capital. A small settlement was suggested to be made and later on it will be expanded but this idea was absolutely baseless and is of no use because in a growing country a state requires a strong governing body and History is the witness of the undeniable growth of Chandigarh.

To spend limited money at a right place and to get a perfect and desirable result all at a single shot was a bit difficult for anyone to scroll out. But the History of Chandigarh had made up its way and finally under such inescapable circumstances Chandigarh was set up with a whole new settlement and investment. The idea of an independent settlement was approved by the Government of Punjab after a very long time because of the pressure of the politicians to set up their city as the capital issue. Today Chandigarh is a place of harmony and glory and is also a place for various fest and festivals that are celebrated here with full zest and zeal.
