History• BioWare was established on February 1995 by Ray Muzyka, Greg

Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip who were graduates from medical school.

• From their success in medical school, they had enough money to open a company.

• They put in $100, 000 for their first game: Shattered Steel. This was described as a “model success” by IGN.

• After their success, they decided on their next game to be a RPG, which ended up being Baldur’s Gate. This game was made only on the PC and was programmed through the infinity engine.

• After the release, Augustine Yip left to work in his medical career while the company soon after released and expansion back: Tales of the Sword Coast.

• Through this point, BioWare decided to return to the action genre for they thought of making a sequel to Shattered Steel. But instead, made MDK 2 at the request of Shiny Entertainment while delivering their project to consoles this time around.

History Continues…• In 2000, they released Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn was released.

Though this and the previous game were not enough to stabilize their place and so they continued with various failures that eventually led to bankruptcy.

• Soon BioWare began to work with Atari but later released Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire.

• After a few years, BioWare joined in partnership with Pandemic Studios. But after a couple more years, these companies were bought by EA.

• Though BioWare continued its rein of games and released some major hits such as; Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age: Origins.

• Later on, BioWare released 3 major titles: MMORPG Star Wars The Old Republic, Mass Effect 3, and Dragon Age II.

• After a while, the growth of the MMORPG group had increased, thus to solve this problem, there were 3 additional studios created that were all settled at different areas; Austin, Taxis, Montreal, Quebec, and Fairfax, Virginia.

• In this present year, as Dragon Age III was announced, the 2 remaining co-founders of BioWare retire from the gaming industry.
