History of theHistory of theKHS WebsiteKHS Website

1998-99• The high school site consisted of

six static pages of information that had not been updated for six months

• Mrs. Santilli (then Assistant Principal) asked Mr. Continenza if he would take over responsibility for the site

• HIS RESPONSE: “I don’t know anything about websites, but I’ll give it my best shot.”

Eight dedicated seniors worked diligently on their own time to update the site, and teach Mr. Continenza what they knew about web design.

• They won “Cool School of the Week” from Education World, and put KHS in the running to win the “Cool School of the Year” award during 1999-2000

• The site grew to over 300 pages

Despite what we now consider as “awful” photographs, the Kenston community loved the website, and it was obvious it was here to stay

1999-2000Two dedicated and knowledgeable students and Mr. Continenza spent countless hours outside the school day developing the site

• They were assisted by a handful of Web Builders, and approximately 30 student athletes reporting sports results via email when they returned home from competitions.

• Don Pavlish, a 1993 Kenston graduate and professional web designer offered consulting help with our design.

Their hard work began paying off as the WWW community noticed their dedication and the site began winning awards at a quick rate

The excitement rose in the entire Kenston Community when the judging and voting for BEST IN THE USA drew close…

Our website received praises in every newspaper in the Cleveland area; radio and TV also gave our students “air time” as the National Contest drew to a close.

On March 15, 2000 we were named “Cool School of the Year” by Education World.

12:20 p.m. “Attention Teachers and Students; please excuse this interruption. We have just received word from Education World that we have won the Cool School of the Year award!...”

On April 14, 2000, CISCO Systems awarded us $10,000 for being “The Best High School Website in the United States of America.”

BEST IN THE USA!

The amount of TV, radio, and newspaper coverage we received made all students involved with the site very proud, and the community as a whole.

We received several proclamations from local, state, and national politicians:

Awards CeremonyA school-wide assembly was called to

honor the Web Builders

KHS 93’ alumni Don Pavlish spoke at the awards ceremony:

“…to me what's always been the most impressive thing about the Kenston site is the obvious dedication and passion that its Web Team has for it…”

The site had grown to 2,750pages, and had over 10,000 color photographs.

The celebration continued with a “Cool School” cookout and ice-cream days…
