HISTORY• The Formula One series originated with the European

Grand Prix Motor Racing of the 1920s.• Federation Internationale de I’Automobile (FIA)• Jean Todt is FIA President (since 2009)• FIA Headquarter is in Paris.• In 1946,first non-championship races being held.• The first world championship race was held at

Silverstone, United Kingdom in 1950. • A championship for constructors followed in 1958. • Last Non-championship Formula One event occurred

in 1983.

F1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP• Consists of 2 championships

– Drivers.– Constructors.

• Upcoming season includes:-– 11 Teams. – 22 Drivers.– 19 Grands Prix.

• It includes races some of the most iconic tracks like:– Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium).– Monza (Italy).– Silverstone (Great Britain).

SPORTING REGULATIONS

• Weight– At least 642kg minimum weight.– 690kg maximum.– Including the driver but not fuel at all times.– Including dry-weather tyres fitted.

• Fuel– from 2014 fuel is limited to 100kg per race

• Nose height– The maximum height is 185mm (previously 550mm)

• Front wing– width reduced from 1800mm to 1650mm.

TYRES

• A single tyre supplier, using identical Pirelli rubber.• Two specifications (or compounds) of dry-weather tyre.• Drivers must use both during the race. • Super soft - red; soft - yellow; medium - white; hard -

orange.• Each driver has access to 12 sets of dry-weather tyres

(seven of the harder ‘prime’ specification and five of the softer ‘option’ specification),

• Four sets of intermediate tyres.• Three sets of wet tyres.

POINTS• The top ten finishers in each Grand Prix score points towards both

the drivers’ and the constructors’ world championships, according to the following scale:– 1st : 25 points --- 6th : 8 points– 2nd : 18 points --- 7th : 6 points– 3rd : 15 points --- 8th : 4 points– 4th : 12 points --- 9th : 2 points– 5th : 10 points --- 10th : 1 point

• If less than 75 percent of the race distance has been completed half points are awarded.

• If less than two laps have been completed, no points are awarded. • Double drivers’ and constructors’ points will be awarded at the final

race of the Formula One season - Abu Dhabi for 2014 .

PIT-LANE PROCEDURES

• The lane closest to the pit wall is known as the ‘fast lane’.

• The lane closest to the garages is the ‘inner lane’.• Safely release of a car from its pit.• Pit-lane speed limit of 80km/hr.• Except Australia, Monaco and Singapore, where pit-

lane limit is 60km/hr.

RACE DISTANCE

• Distance of a Formula One race is the least number of laps exceeding 305 kilometres.

• Exception is the Monaco Grand Prix, where the race distance is the least number of laps exceeding 260 kilometres.

QUALIFYING

• Saturday's qualifying session, designed to take about an hour, is split into three distinct parts:

• Q1: – First 18 minutes of the hour. – The six slowest cars drop out. – Any driver whose best Q1 lap time exceeds 107 percent of

the fastest time set during that session will not be allowed to take part in the race.

– Fill places 17 to 22 on the grid.– These cars may run as many laps as they wish.

QUALIFYING • Q2:

– After a seven-minute break.– 15-minute session.– The six slowest cars drop out.– Fill places 11 to 16 on the grid.– These cars may run as many laps as they wish.

• Q3:– After a further eight-minute break.– 12-minute session.– 10 cars to decide pole position and the starting order for

the top 10 grid places.– Again, these cars may run as many laps as they wish.

SUSPENDING & RESUMING A RACE• An accident or poor track conditions then red or yellow flags

will be shown around the circuit.• The pit exit will be closed.• Any driver pitting after the red flag signal will be given a drive-

through penalty.• The safety car will then be driven to the front of the queue.• Overtaking behind the safety car is forbidden.• No race may exceed four hours in length, regardless of

suspensions.
