Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 6, Just a reminder that many supplementary forms for secondary schools are due by the end of this week (Friday October 18th). If a school you are applying for requires a SIF, please ensure you hand it in on time. You must complete this as well as your online CAF application to Lambeth, or whichever local authority in which you live, for your child to be considered for a place. The deadline for CAF applications is midnight by Thursday October 31st. Please ensure you also submit documentation for proof of address and your child's date of birth. Details of what Lambeth will accept can be found on the school admissions website https://www.lambeth.gov.uk/school-admissions/proof-of-address-and-date-of-birth-documents Late applications will be considered after national offers day, Monday March 2nd. This means your choices of schools won't be looked at until all other on time applications have been processed, and places allocated, reducing the likelihood of your child gaining a place at your preferred school.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
Pupils in Years 1-6 will have been given an important
letter about clubs. Please check their bags or ask
them for it.
Hitherfield’s Maths Challenge Well done to Esme (2 Mongoose) and Rayhan (3 Jaguar) for completing the challenge. You will receive a maths sticker in the
Good News assembly next week. Don’t forget you can email the completed maths challenges to the main school office or
drop them off their too.
This week’s maths challenge:
Hitherfield Herald Online Safety Corner
What to do if… your child has been affected by content
they have seen online.
Encourage them to think about why friends may share certain posts. Show them how to gently challenge
their friends if they find their content offensive. Remind them they can always talk to you about things
happening online.
Judge what effect the content is having on your child. Ensure they know that they should report abusive
or inappropriate content on the social platform and consider blocking anyone that may be saying hurtful
things.
If they are deeply affected by the posts, consider advising them to take a break from the social network
and concentrate on other activities that might make them happier.
Maths Glossary:
Inverse = the opposite or reverse of
something else. In maths, subtraction is
the inverse of addition, division is the
inverse of multiplication.
If you have any Maths words or
concepts that you would like explaining,
please let us know.
Christmas Cards
Half term is the perfect opportunity for your children to be creating their Christmas card masterpieces
The Christmas card orders raise considerable funds for the PTA. This year we are using a company that offer a greater
range of Christmassy products, the cards are cheaper, so feel free to order more!
Please hand completed forms & payment (cash/cheque in and envelope with child’s name/class printed on it) to a PTA
representative in the office at 9.00am from the 28th – 31st October.
The DEADLINE for orders and payments is THURSDAY 31st OCTOBER
Hitherfield’s Sports’ News
Lambeth Youth Games Girls Football Tournament The 'Magnificent Seven' took part in an inter-schools ball court football tournament on Wednesday. We found ourselves in a tough group drawn against two of the eventual top four teams. Nevertheless, we held our own in most of our games with defensive determination and attacking moves made at pace. Some great goalkeeping was also on display including a memorable penalty save and multiple saves from close range. We must mention an exquisite goal line clearance too! It was a day of knocks and bruises too as we found that fences don't move out of your way and shin pads are truly worth it. A big well done to the girls for their grit and their teamwork.
Lambeth Youth Games Netball Tournament
On Friday 11th October, the year 6 netball team went to a netball tournament. Even though we didn’t win the tournament the young leaders said we were ‘the nicest team there’. The overall winners of the competition – Granton Primary School - said we were the toughest team they had played. Both teams did really well. Everyone was very good at working as a team and communicating to each other. As a thank you for participating in the competition we received 3 new netballs. We had lots of fun and really enjoyed our day. By Nina & Ella (Year 6)
Lambeth Youth Games Hockey Tournament
On Friday 27th September, we went to a hockey tournament at Streatham and Clapham High School. When we got there we had a few practises before the first game began. Then the horn was pushed and the game commenced. The first game we played was against Henry Cavendish and we WON!! When another team was playing and we weren’t we would cheer them on to show our team work. After all the games we would shake the opposing teams hands, even if we lost. Finally it was time for lunch, HORRAY! Everyone was so hungry, so we settled down to eat. After running around we were getting ready for our next match, but then it started pelting down with rain, so we all got soaked., We cautiously ran and got our belongings and went into their sports hall for shelter. Then it stopped raining as soon as we entered the sports hall. When we went back out it was still spitting but that didn’t stop us from playing. So we played our last few matches right up to the end of the day. Sadly, we didn’t get through to the semi finals but that didn’t stop us from having a fun day. Unfortunately when we were walking back to school from the tournament it started to pour down with rain again. Abby, who kindly volunteered to take us all to the competition on her birthday, was standing in front of a deep puddle when a car drove straight through the puddle and splashed us. As though we weren’t wet enough already! When we safely arrived back at school everyone was shocked at how wet we were, especially our teachers! Even though it poured down with rain we were thrilled with the day we had.

THANK YOU!!
Thank you very much to all the staff and parents who volunteered, donated cakes, brought food, made chapatis, toasted
waffles, sold uniform, ran games, made samosas, painted faces and did henna tattoos! We had another very busy and
successful Eid Fair, which wasn’t thwarted by the rainy weather - although we did have to cancel the bouncy castle as a
precaution.
Thank you also to everyone who came to the fair and spent lots of money, and also to those wonderful people who
helped set up and also clear up after the Fair.
We would also like to say a very special thank you for the generous donations we received from our local businesses -
Tesco Extra (Streatham Common) and Daily Fresh Foods (Norbury).
We raised a total of £1760.24, which has been split between Human Appeal and the PTA.
The PTA has therefore raised £880.12 for its continued fundraising efforts at school, and we will be sending £920.21 to
Human Appeal, as there was an additional £40.09 that was collected in a bucket on the day.
The winner of “Eat the Doughnut” was Najam in Jaguar class, with a time of 1min 28s. Well done! Please collect your
prize from the Office.
