What are HIV/AIDS?
• HIV stands for Human immunodeficiency virus
• AIDS stands for Acquired immune deficiency syndrome
• HIV/AIDS is a disease that takes over cells that would usually help to protect you from viruses
• A disease that can be given to other people and infects someone very quickly
What do HIV/AIDS Do?
• A disease that infects the immune system
• Invades and infects T-cells and CD4 cells that usually fight off diseases
• Makes you prone to any disease and you will have no defense because of this
Symptoms or Signs
• Many common symptoms include:
• Fevers/Headaches
• Sore throat
• Rashes
• Lack of energy or weight loss
How is it Transferred?
• Transmitted sexually
• Given to babies through breastfeeding
• Sharing injection needles
• Not transmitted by contact with the person
Ways to Control HIV/AIDS
• Keeping a person with the disease dormant
• People have tried to control it but it spreads too quickly and uses the immune system to replicate
• Some become drug resistant which means that the drug becomes ineffective
• When you get HIV and you take medicine to prevent you from getting AIDS
Cures or Solutions• There is no real cure fore HIV/AIDS at
the moment
• You can use a antiretroviral treatment to suppress the infection, but it doesn’t completly stop the virus
• Remove every one of the infected cells in the body
Cases of HIV/AIDS• 33.3 Million people were infected with
HIV/Aids in 2009
• 16.6 million woman were infected in 2009 and 76% were living in Africa
• 370,00 children had it in 2009
• Each day about 5,000 people die from AIDS
• 67% of all people with AIDS live in Sub-Saharan Africa
