Committee
Effective communication platform and promotion

Provide up-to-date market information and practical tools
Serve as an interim review before doing the annual
sustainability report
6
Key Drivers for Sustainability Reporting
Start from where you are : One Step Forward at a Time
• Kick start the process to find out
where you are, what you have and
what you lack
• Establish the database over time
and do not wait until you have a
complete set of data
2012/13 (Third year) 2010/11 (First year)
7
Key Drivers for Sustainability Reporting
Improvement plan: Hardware vs Software
• Formulate and review improvement plan regularly
• Identify areas which are of key focus
E.g. energy saving, fuel consumption, water consumption etc.
Different companies may have different focuses, prepare
materiality matrix accordingly
• Fill the data gap once missing ones have been identified
Communicate with colleagues and explain the reasons behind
Gain support from colleagues who are the expert in the field
Extend and share existing methodology to other subsidiaries and
partners

Key Drivers for Sustainability Reporting
Improvement plan: Hardware vs Software
Green
Initiatives
& carbon
reduction
Our improvement plan: hardware and software measures
• Replaced all conventional low-mast
sodium lamps with LED lights along
the main alignment of the Guangzhou-
Shenzhen Superhighway
• Replaced the air-cooled air-conditioning
system with water-cooled technology
for our investment properties, where
applicable, including Hopewell Centre
and Panda Hotel
• Replaced the T8 lights with LED lights
in the offices
• Participated in different green initiatives
organised by green NGO:
the Low-Carbon Office Operation
Programme (LOOP) of WWF-HK
Green Office Awards Labelling Scheme
(GOALS) of WGO
Power Smart Contest of Friends of the
Earth
• Initiated “Go Green Workplace” campaign
• Promoted green practices and provide
training to in-house “Green Captains”
• Organized green tours and green lunch for
colleagues e.g. field tour to Mai Po and
Green Monday lunch
Hardware Software
9
Key Drivers for Sustainability Reporting
Improvement plan: Hardware vs Software
Electric Vehicles

years and disposed old gasoline
vehicle(s) of the Company's car fleet
• Introduced two 45-seater E-Coach for
Kowloonbay International Trade &
Exhibition Centre - under the Pilot
Green Transport Fund
• Installed over 40 EV charging points
in our properties in Wan Chai,

Region
• Participated in green initiatives,
such as Take a “Brake” Low Carbon
Action by Friends of the Earth (HK)
• Organised green driving workshop
for company drivers and colleagues
• Supported research and
development project on EVs
undertaken by The Hong Kong
Polytechnic University
• Deploying EVs on a priority basis
for local transportation with a view to
reducing fuel consumption
Hardware Software
Our improvement plan: hardware and software measures
10
Key Drivers for Sustainability Reporting
Improvement plan: Hardware vs Software
• Example: Set up some targets and review it from time to time
11
HKEx ESG Reporting Guide: Environmental Protection
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
12
• Set up reporting boundaries
• Most of the KPI can be found from environmental
table (quantitative data)
• Example: KPI B1.1 - 1.4, B2.1 & 2.2 and C3.1
HKEx ESG Reporting Guide: Environmental Protection
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
KPI B1.1 & 1.2
13
• KPI B1.5 & 1.6 are qualitative data
• Example: KPI B1.5
HKEx ESG Reporting Guide: Environmental Protection
Aspect B1: Emissions
14
• Some data can be collected more easily than expected as they may already be
available. Start from where you are!
• Enhance efficiency by working with the right people to obtain data
• Example: KPI B2.1 & 2.2
Calculated by Emission Factor
Water bill
Electricity bill

Aspect B2: Use of resources

# Emission factors for CLP were derived from information in CLP Holdings Annual Report and CLP’s Key Performance Statistics.
* Emission factors for HEC were derived from information in HEC’s Environment, Quality, Health and Safety Report and HEC’s website.
What is CO2e and Emission Factor?
• CO2e can be taken as a common unit used to measure greenhouse gases
• Emission Factor can be used to calculate the amount of greenhouse gases
emissions caused by energy consumption
• Emission Factor for Different Power Companies in Hong Kong (in kg CO2e / kWh)
• 1000kWh * 0.54 = 540 kg CO2e
(electricity consumption (emission factor (540 kg carbon dioxide equivalent)
from electricity bill) from CLP)

Aspect B2: Use of resources

Useful tools and reference:
• WWF Low-carbon Office
Operations Program (LOOP)
Challenge:
• Data consistency – data could be inconsistent if the company has a wide range of
businesses, especially across different countries
• Different understanding and interpretation of the requirement of guideline
• Guidelines To Account For
And Report On Greenhouse
Gas Emissions And
Removals For Buildings In
Hong Kong
